That song, "Kneel" is just wonderful. Beautiful & mystical poetic words "...hear the bugle-colored twilight blowing" - that kind of line carries so much: just a few words convey air, color, sound, light, notes of a horn, the dusk, the wind: WOW. Beautiful singing Aimee, and now I'm going to find out more about this great pianist & songwriter, thanks to you.

We have jazz house concerts here in Portland, Oregon. They usually have the best local jazz artists and they are my favorite way to listen to live music because of the intimacy of watching jazz artists play in a person's home. Also, it's a great chance to talk and ask questions of the musicians in person, as well as meeting other people in the community interested in jazz. They are so much fun to go to and often have potlucks there too!

Already a devoted Aimee fan for a year now (with deep thanks for her guidance on my own jazz piano journey), and a brand new Jeremy Siskind fan as of one week ago (via his Hank Jones "The Very Thought of You" transcription)--which then led me to this amazing session--has everything--cool insight, musicianship, vocals, poetry--and pure swinging! Madame Nolte, first of all those eye catching fonts shine great-cool; congrats to its designer. And this video was a charm... Jeremy Siskind seems exactly like how an extremely talented (jazz piano) musician would seem; his ten finger independent etude example was also quite stretching (even to listen!). His chat was also interesting. And without doubt your performance during singing and playing was top nocth as always Madame Nolte... PS: may you pay just a very little more attention to mics (already perfect), you will avoid all those little murphy annoyences (as said in another comment) happening from time to time...

This was lovely, thank you. Umm, you realise that on Billie's Bounce, by the time you got to the closing head it was about half the speed (ok I exaggerate) of the opening speed. I thought I was the only one who does that! On the homewarming AND the voice-in-the-head, when I'm playing by myself I sometimes feel I'm doing something interesting and to me beautiful, then suddenly a voice tells me: hey, you're not swinging! So then I try to swing but it kind of ruins what I was doing. I'm not sure whether I should listen to myself or tell myself to go ____ myself.

Being a musician for 50+ years I feel compelled to make this observation. Not taking anything away from his tremendous talent, I find Mr. Siskind's monotoned scatting during his solos extremely distracting. This may be an anomaly that he is unaware of, or not. I don't know. But it certainly takes the focus away from his exquisite technique.
@AimeeNolte
@AimeeNolte 5 лет назад
Usually, he would not have a microphone on his mouth when he plays, so people in the audience would never really hear it. I wanted to turn the microphone off during his playing, but it turned out that the microphone I was using on his piano was failing, or at least very weak so I needed his vocal mic to be on to pick up his piano sound. I don’t mind his singing at all. I’ve never minded when Kieth Jarrett does it or Oscar Peterson, but everyone is different.
