No wonder the transmissions fail they run way way to hot ,I installed a large rv Hayden cooler in line with the rad cooler and changed all transmission fluid with name brand dextron 6 synthetic transmission fluid . I may also add a small fan to the cooler next spring also .
My advise is install the biggest transmission cooler you can fit in line with the rad cooler and synthetic fluid . My restored gxp was running 213 f on an 87f day in sept way too hot and that way driving the 402 in southern Ontario Canada at 75 78 mph . The 213f was on a rebuilt transmission the new fluid started to dis colour with less than 500 miles on it so I changed fluid for a full synthetic dextron 6 now fluid runs max 168 f I may install a fan on the cooler next spring
