Do yourself a favor and put seat covers on the rears. The car seats tear up the seats in addition to the puffy snacks that will end up being spilled despite every attempt at prohibiting snacks in the truck. Plus the underneath rear storage pretty much gets delegated to emergency supplies- tire repair, emergency blankets, ect... that you will only need to use in the rarest occasions. Best wishes on the new one!
Yeah I’m leaning towards putting seat cover on the rear - looking into ones that still allow you to fold up the seats, etc, but they’re pricey! Also will eventually get rear seat protectors for the back of the front seats for the kids kicking them I guess!
I’ve heard that mentioned before - but I think there’s no truth to it - carseats don’t “slip” if they’re secured into the latches or secured with the lap belt. Definitely some validity to not putting your baby in loose clothes / puffy jackets though.
Dad to triplets and I have had all three car seats sitting on an orvis seat cover for three years. I cut holes for the latches. Added a rug pad under seats. Works great!
Can't wait for the build! Would love to learn about the COMMS setup, why you choose what you do, etc. It seems to be an overlooked part of many builds.
Been watching for years… so glad you got this particular truck because I have the same in a 2023, near identical. There’s much to consider before making such expensive decisions when it comes to modding it out, so I’ll be watching closely and probably mimicking whatever the result is as best I can. If it comes out looking nearly as good as the previous Tundra I won’t be disappointed!
Great color, just PPF it and done. Been watching your channel since 2020, your builds, home, growing family. Congrats and thanks for the inspiration 🤜🏼🤛🏼🇦🇷
Man, you are basically building the truck I’ve been specing out. I have a high option limited MGM and I’ve been looking at the same suspension and bumper
I have a 23 sr5 with the trd off road package. It’s a perfect setup imo. But I also don’t really care about a lot of the bells and whistles that come on the higher trim levels. Congrats on the 2nd baby and the new truck!
Congrats on your baby girl! My wife and I are also due for #2 in August for a baby girl. Currently driving a ‘15 Tacoma and looking to upgrade to a platinum ‘24 Tundra as well.
Mike, I would definitely go roof rack. For a daily driver it is really nice to have the extra storage. If you go with adjustable thule racks on top of the diamondback you can use that to load really long 2x4 etc...
I’ll miss the green tundra but I’m excited to see what is to come with the new one! I would love to see some of the power/lighting work that you are going to do. I always learn something from your build videos and want to learn more about that stuff! Keep up the hard work man!
You can probably add the MTS module. I swapped out whatever they called the existing module that was there, and added the MTS module and MTS menu is now in list of options between speedo and tach and gives you all of the MTS options that change throttle, ATRAC, and ABS programming depending on mode. Was easy, took about 10 minutes and the module from Lexus was like $150.
Hey Mike - longtime subscriber and enjoy all that you share. Just letting you know that it appears your videos are once again appearing in my feed. Hope the growth that you deserve follows man. Hope to bump into you someday since we are both in the same area of Colorado with aligned interests. Congrats on the new addition to the family (baby and vehicle)!
Congrats on the baby girl on the way Mike! Stoked for you! Made the right choice going crewmax for the kiddos! My kids hate the Tacoma because it's too tight haha.
Great video, and congrats on the new kiddo! Looking forward to following along on your power upgrades and ham additions, since that’s probably where I’m headed next. Otherwise, love your channel. Always lots of interesting and fun stuff.
Right on for the kids! I have two under two that are exactly 18 Months apart.... 2 Girls! Looking for a new Truck / SUV and such a solid Vid. Never was much of a truck guy though. Wife wants a 7 seater SUV... even though when I had a 2017 Discovery I rarely ever used the 3rd row and had Zero kids. I'm currently using a rear facing toddler car seat and a newborn car seat.
Can’t wait to watch the build process! I just went the opposite direction of you and down sized trucks lol took me a bit to get used to but I love it! And I think the quicksand wrap on that truck would be killer! Please do it lol
Wanted to get this truck for a lot of the same reasons, but ended up going with a Denali. My main reason - remote start stops when you open the door. I don’t think I’ll ever understand that. Not fun in 100° heat.
Like the idea of the new rig. Just moved to Colorado and getting into the same ideas with a new 2025 Revel. Keep the content coming! I would love to pick your brain on camping spots for the van.
Hey Mike! I know you had talked about doing a budget breakdown of the house. I know you probably want to keep finances private, but if you could do percentages of the budget. Your decision making process on different parts of the house. What changed and what you’d do differently. Thanks!
I quit buying seat covers and used a modified moving blanket (10 minutes and a pocket knife) as a rear seat cover. My kids are nasty so covering the rear seat is a must. It’s also nice because it extends down to the floor board hiding my tools, blankets, and jackets under the seats something seat covers didn’t offer. Plus it is M81 woodland and we all know how bougie that is. Prayers for the new little one and blessings to you and yours.
Yeah there are 3 options for the main center cluster and they all suck. This is the only one that shows digital speed and any RPMs at all. They need to spice it up and/or offer more customizations.
Congrats on the Platinum! Badass truck but I’m definitely more excited to see how you’re building up the LX570. I daily drive a 2010 LX570 and still have it mainly stock but want to get some ideas from you. Great video as always Mike 👍
All the digital stuff is getting wild. I’ve been looking at a new SUV and the 2023 Lexus GX460 seems to be reliable and amazing. Only gripe is the small 3rd row.
Your showing up on my algorithm just fine if that means anything. Since I watch all your vids you basically show up on my home page. Will be cool to see the c4 bumper this time around. Bronze with gray will look good but if you wrap it quicksand, not sure about that working with bronze as well as the gray
First off, congrats on the baby! Kids are amazing! Speaking of, that truck is also! Can’t wait to see you build out that truck and video it all! My son and daughter in law have a taco and they overland but I just ordered a custom build 2024 sprinter so I’m a van guy that loves your channel! Btw I got a notification. No bell but none of my subs do? I’ll look into it. 👍
I really like the HAM content! Just as important as having a built/capably built vehicle IMO. You should consider getting your Extra license in the future, so that you can get the most out of the hobby. Don't forget about setting up your home station as well. Cheers 🍻
I say yes to wrapping it and no to the roof rack cause I think it’d be nice keeping the moon roof clear. I live in Denver area and would like to wrap my 4runner. I would love to know what shop you use, if you wrap it!
Very nice truck. Hope I can take the plunge one day soon. I will have to be happy with stock stupid however. Maybe upgrade the tires. Without the TRD I or we can get the power running boards. Will look forward to your build.
The 2024 Limited Nightshade is pretty close to a Platinum for me. It has heated and ventilated seats, bed lights and power, the digital instrument cluster, panoramic moonroof. It is missing the power running boards, HUD, 360-cam, and digital rearview mirror though. But for the extra $12k CAD, I couldn’t justify it.
Talking about the ham stuff at 33:55 it reminded me of the little mermaid where shes says something like i have gadgets and gizmos and whatnots or something like that.
I know you probably don’t get a lot of love but I also trying to build my homestead and have the home prepared for likely scenarios and being self sufficient. I’d love to see the homesteading videos
Nice! Yeah I am planning to outline some more videos in that space and preparedness in general. Even thought RU-vid doesn't like it when I make those videos, I really enjoy them.
Hey, Mike, I've always enjoyed your gear and edc videos. You've always had a good, chill vibe and presentation. Unfortunately I'm not hard into trucks (maybe when I make the big time). Just a thought and a hope here that you might include some more gear and edc content in your rotation. I think it would be great. --CS
Just read through the thread and it seems like you can add the switch, and it registers the changes on the screen, but verdict seems to be that it does not actually give you the functionality.
One thing I don't like about Toyota, the different trim levels each have something cool that the others don't. I want a trim level with all the cool things. Suppose you could build one, but not all cool things are available options for all trims. Tacoma/4Runner new gens are something I'm excitedly waiting for. Probably going to be waiting a while, lol. Ps... Don't wear polarized glasses when you're driving. It kills the HUD. Found that out on my old grand prix. Unless they've changed since then, the polarization kills the glare that the HUD depends on, lol.
Bro we had kids almost at the same time , I have a 14 month old daughter and just had my son lol crazy , I just had the girl then the boy , congrats brotha
I'd love details in the Ironman lift. There seems to be not much on it yet since its new but it is an intriguing option. They don't always have the best reputation for soft goods but their suspension seem solid.
Definitely make a nerdy video about the full 12v system you're going to do mate, us Aussies love a good 12v setup. Reckon you'll ever run a fridge in the back?
Love you Mike, been watching you for years now. Also, congrats on the second baby! Im glad you got the crewmax tundra. As much as i love the green monster, the crewmax works best for carseats. I have a ‘21 taco pro, carseats suck in the taco.😂
Im interested to see this build as well as the comms! I bought me a cheap baofang uv-5r but havent got certified yet or really done much. Wiuld be interested to know how you got into it and how you learned.
The ironman 4x4 lift was surprising! I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Their technology from my understanding is tailored best to slow, long travel articulation. Can't wait for the videos.
I’m not positive, but seems like the technology leans more towards fast travel, washboards, etc - since their benefits are increased oil and enhanced cooling to help eliminate shock fade. They are also popular in Australia where it’s predominately faster, longer distance, more washboard type stuff. Guess we’ll see!
