I think that this size tripod is exactly what a traveler needs. Light weight rules when you are hiking long distance or hill climbing. It's sturdy enough to support a camera and lens at sunset. Especially when someone uses a cable shutter-release. I would use something stronger for serious bird photography, though. A person would really apply pressure and stress to it for these conditions. But for architecture, landscape, indoor and low light, it should work great. As far as cleaning and maintenance, you could use a clean washcloth to wrap around the leg joints prior to folding the legs in. Just throw some kind of cloth in your bag to collect dirt when folding it up. Cheers
Thanks for the review, mate. It's always a challenge with travel tripods as you know I've been using the Ulanzi and it's still going well. I did have to replace one of the legs because it stopped working, but I think that was because it was faulty but overall it was pretty good and I'm still using it... Generally speaking though I'm a fan of clips as opposed to screws but this is almost the same thing. I will definitely check this out.
Thanks mate. I do know you like that brand of tripods and it’s good you can get replacement parts from them. With this tripod wise I was in Albany one of the legs got a bit of a bump and broke, I had to throw it away after that. I also found out just how weak the locking mechanism was on the legs and there really isn’t much in them.
@SimonPhillipsPhoto peak design make a good one but it's pricey. I have used my ulanzi now for 2 years and it's stood the test of time pretty well Ukanzi now gives me some discounts too
I’ve seen the PD ones and it is expensive and it doesn’t go very tall nor does it support much weight. The Sirui one is stronger, taller and cheaper. When I get to England I’ll look at some benro tripods.
@SimonPhillipsPhoto ulanzi are about to release a more heavy duty travel version Kind of in between travel and normal tripod They gave me the email of the design team and I suggested to them 6 monts ago that sand and grey getting into tripods is the biggest issue for seascape photographers. They listened Let's hope it's good
They certainly are great value for the money. I have another tripod which is more expensive by about 4x. I actually sold one of my other tripods which as more expensive and the new one works really well for me and is lighter.
My pleasure and thank you! in regards the spikes you certainly can't do that with this tripod as the rubber feet are moulded into the legs, it would have been good even if you could screw something into the existing feet.
Weirdly, on the website the model you're naming costs more, weights more and looks different! And have ten layers of carbon fibre instead of three (which is good, and yet)
