id be highly amazed if it isnt that battery. often times when batteries are made they go sit in a warehouse sometimes for up to two years. i would not be surprised if that batter is actually much older than that bike. when that screen was flickering it was trying to send power from the battery to the starter but like you said, it doesnt have enough amps to go with the current.
Chris, My new 2021 Gold Wing Tour DCT did the same thing to me with only 358 miles on it. I went ahead and charged the battery and haven’t had any problems since then. My friend who owns a 2020 GW Tour DCT instructed me turn the ignition knob to the left a 2nd time after turning it to the left to turn it off and listen for the three distinct beeps. This ensures all electronics are off? As I stated, I haven’t had any starting issues since charging the battery and doing that additional procedure. Finally, I called the Honda dealership and they said they checked the battery as part of their prep checklist. However, as already stated, a battery can be bad, even if new, and the dealership had no issues replacing it if needed. Hope this helps!
I haven’t seen that before my bike you walk out you get the kill switch/start and it won’t do anything you can turn the switch on no power no nothing however if you wait a minute or so it starts right up it’s always been that way since I bought it a few months ago it was used with 5000 miles I’ve just gotten used to the way it starts wish I could find an issue causing this
I have to agree with the battery crank strength. I’ve read too many forum posts basically saying the same thing. As soon as the battery was replaced everything was normal.
If the rear wheel is turning the least little bit while turning off the ignition switch..like when on the centerstand..or if the ignition is turned off while the bike is moving, the bike will not completely turn off and will drain the battery dead..its a well known issue on the GL1800 boards...
Also, make it a habit to check your frame welds for cracks Everytime you service or add to the bike, 2017 also. Don't forget welds on either side of center stand.
Mine did that after about a year. I got a lithium battery at the battery plus for about $200. It has more CCA than the one that came with the bike. Works every time now and it's good for about 4 to 5 years.
I had the exact same thing happen to me on my 2019 Wing a couple of weeks ago when I returned from Americade. I tried for 30 mins to start it. I got my spare key & it still wouldn’t start. I walked away from it for about an hour, came back it started fine. The only thing I thought might’ve occurred is I had my Wing key in my pocket w other keys for 4 hours. I think I might’ve had the button depressed & un programmed something. Once it started I tried it. 5/10 times no problem.. I don’t think it was the battery.. My Wing was being trailered so I think I was pressing the key and signals were being sent to my bike for 4 hours. When I got home & went to start the bike to unload it, while I had power it wouldn’t start..
Today I had the same no starting issue. 2nd time in less than a month. When I’m in my garage I usually put the bike in accessory to listen to music. The bikes always hooked up to a battery tender. The BT is at least 15 yrs old. After speaking to my service guy he told me to try to jump it. If it starts, it’s the battery. I have a 2nd newer 1-2yrs that I use for a generator. I hooked up the new tender to the bike & in about 10-15 mins w a red & green Lt, the bike fired right up. So I think my problem was a bad BT. I’m going to let it charge over night and see what the next few days bring. If the issue recurs I’ll get a new battery. Batteries on wing are covered for the warranty period.. I’m also going to get a battery voltage meter installed..
Hook your meter back up to the battery and then attempt to start the bike. Watch for the voltage drop. The new wing is sensitive to low voltage. I’ve not had the problem yet with my 21 wing. I have the same one you have, color and all.
Acts like a bad battery cell. Connect volt meter to battery. Watch the voltage drop when cranking. A good battery should not drop below 10 volts under load.
My 2008 did the same thing 2 weeks after I bought it. Had the battery tested at autozone and It failed under load. Funny thing is the battery was only two weeks old!
Friend, dont worry its seems to be a discharged battery, first recharge it for about a night, if this does not work, claim a new battery, this is a common issue on all motorbikes that include complex electronic system.
Replace the battery, Chris, but have the alternator checked too.. batteries are made to last 2 years from proper usage..jf the alternator is not charging, then, that's another problem and the battery loses power and will not crank your engine. Have your ALTERNATOR checked right away..good luck!
I have a manual shift and it has not happened yet. It probably charged up good on the road to Nashville. 3k miles and my only compkaints is the seat and the lost space on the saddle bags. I had to unpack my goldwing bags by nearl half to get them into the 2021.
I'll bet anything its your solenoid, honda has two, one for reverse and one for the starter. It has two leads one goes to the battery and the other to the starter. They are located behind the left cover and saddlebag, which needs removing to access. The bike is new so its probably not your starter motor.
Try hooking up the jumper cables anyway and see if it will start. If so you probably need a new battery. Not uncommon for some new bikes to have a bad battery.
As a test, can you swap out the battery from your other Gold Wing? I think you are on the right track. It is the battery's available cranking amps that is important.
I had kind of same issue with my 2020 Goldwing. Per dealer batterie was weak. New battery solved the issue. and i am seeing maybe 2 years on a batterie thus far. I asked the dealer was there a issue with others on battery problems. They said no. Time will tell. Be safe
Chris, you already asked Honda to built a GL1800 with the DCT engine. Just get back on your GL1800 and get rid of this throwaway Honda until such time. I'd be very upset if this happened on a new bike. With all the electronic garbage this thing has, you would think it would just tell you what it needs. Yet another reason why I will stay with my GL1800 for a long, long time.
Must be a battery problem. Or, loss connection. Try to disconnect the battery and wait 5 mins and reconnect. First, charge your battery. Better yet, take the batt from your old Wing and try.
Will the engine turn directly from starter running jump cables from that battery to starter what about connections at the solenoid switch just asking don't know the setup on the newer goldwing or even a few
The battery should read more volts than that sitting with the ignition off, I think your battery is the problem. Put a jumpstarter on it and I'm betting it cranks right up. Then put an overnight charger on it and top off the battery, that might fix your problem for good. If not you might need a new battery, but with 660 miles that would be a warranty issue for certain.
Do a amperage test using your meter for a parasitic draw by disconnecting your negative battery cable and placing leads between the negative battery cable and battery. If reading is found, a series of tests of direct battery connection is required to find the device. GPS trackers and other devices draw while bike is off.
To much new electronics & technology computers on the new Goldwings. Make it simple Honda & there wont be any problems. Im just saying because @ the end of the day folks just wanna ride instead of dealing with the gadgets 🏍🤙😉
Read the voltmeter when the start button is pushed. See what the voltage drops to. I bet is goes to 10 or lower volts, just like when the lights were left on. REPLACE or RECHARGE the battery. See what happens when you cry Wolf!! Jokes on you.

That bike have a problem drawing the battery down you got 12 v one guy had 5 v but had no power at all and had to leave sitting somewhere to have Honda come get it don’t won’t to be in the mountains and that all of a sudden drain battery so no dct for me
Weak cell in the battery. These yuasa battery’s seem to be trash lately. Ha dot say but go lithium or even a battery from a parts store or battery source store. Piece of mind
I have a new 2021 tour I purchased in July (looks like yours) and it also did not start on me. I had to walk4 miles home and get my trailer and retrieve the POS. I am very disappointed with this bike: undependable and very very over rated, the only good things are the head light and breaks the rest is shit don’t waste your money on one of these.
Mine has 6,500 miles and have the same problem but sometimes the engine starts but after riding it for sometime and stop it , it won't start. Have no idea either. Hope someone can tell something about this problem. (My battery is new)

You never hit the starter switch in the first part although you did put the kill switch in the start position. You went back and hit the start switch and it started.
Is it possible for a 12 volt battery to show in the upper 13 volts? Thought that those type of readings would only be accomplished if the bike was running. Just asking.
