Fellow short mother here, it's comforting for me to see how big Rowan is compared to Hannah. My baby is at least half my size, which makes it so hard to hold him for long periods of time. Baby carriers are the best!

I think you hit the nail on the head about these things making parenting easier. You often see things from older parents with very grown up children saying things like, "we didn't need x, y, z when my kids were little" - of course you don't need them, but if they're helpful, then no need to make it harder. On the flipside, sometimes people feel pressured into needing to buy *everything*. Also, this is great example of showing off Rowan's cuteness, whilst protecting his privacy and overall putting him first.

For my two babies, the only thing I found was an essential was the sling. Neither of them wanted to sleep anywhere but on me and it definitely saved both my back and my sanity.

You mentioned Community being a lifeline. My child is only a couple months older then yours, so the usual time of meeting parents with similarly age children (pregnancy classes) didn't happen for us due to the pandemic. Watching you talk about the same experiences, problems, and milestones I am going through at almost the same exact time, has been MY lifeline. It's been interesting to see how similar we are in our parenting, and where we differ! And also to see that another person is going through the same trials and tribulations as I am. 💜
@mariannecotte6141

As my family had to move across country a month before I gave birth, I feel the exact same way! The lack of community has been really hard, especially in the first few months but I could and still can find solace here, since Hannah is three months ahead of me. Thank you for all of parenting-centered videos!

The high chair (tripp trapp) is a Norwegian invention, a LOT of Norwegian families have it and honestly you can use it until Rowan is like 10, it’s excellent because the lower step functions as a foot rest while he’s too short to reach the floor. So that’s a solid investment😁
@SamarkandChan

As a fellow Norwegian I was going to say the same, and we even used ours into adulthood.

Not sure if mine (as a kid) was the same brand but I think a similar idea. Think I used it untill I was about 13!! As the foot rest came off as I got taller

not a parent and not Norwegian but just here to say that in Germany a lot of families have them and I used mine like until I was 12 and my partner's parents somehow still have theirs standing around their flat and whenever we're there, my partner sits on it for dinner, partly as a joke, but it still works for a 25 Yr old fully grown person

A thing I'd love to recommend is the Milliard portable toddler bed. I got it when my daughter outgrew her travel cot and it's amazing! It comes with bedding and folds up like a suitcase, and it's a proper mat so it doesn't go down or go wobbly like an inflatable one. She still has tons of room in it at age 4 and it's so great whenever we need to stay anywhere. They seem a bit hard to get hold of in the UK at the moment but well worth it if you can find one

2:40 I wouldn't say you "blocked it out", it was probably the sleep deprivation. Sleep is really important for storing memories. If you're waking up constantly in the night, you're not getting as much deep sleep as you normally would, so you will store fewer memories.

My daughter is now 5 months old and currently exclusively breastfed, so I can’t speak for *real* poo 😛 but our reusable wipes come out fresh and white after washing them! Be BRAVE and give it a go! We keep the dirty wipes in an airtight container with some water and a few drops of tea tree oil in them to keep our house smelling fresh in between washes.

I know you released this a few months ago so idk if you still look at the comments but every kid I babysit has that same nightlight. It's especially helpful when they're old enough to walk around and sometimes might take awhile to fall asleep at night but don't need someone to sit with them. The kids I babysit for use it if they're scared of the dark, to see enough to walk to the bathroom, to read a book, etc. I feel like that night light can definitely be used for years amd years

My baby is 10 months now, close to Rowan in age. One of my current must haves have been baskets and baby Duplo to keep him occupied. He loves those. We also love merino woolen suits, they keep baby warm but are breathable. Perfect for in a carrier or when camping 😄 And something I would definitely definitely definitely use again for a next baby are our reusable nappies. We mostly use those by Little Lamb and love them.

I am planning on making her a sensory box, I'm gonna see if it gets her attention for long.

For a parent out there with a colic baby, I feel you essential we used on our very colic baby (cried day and night) Optibac drops expensive but helped baby and us so much they can be used from birth! Absolutely with you on the star wrap (we had two in purple and yellow!), and the Bibado bibs (although we favour the long-sleeved ones because our girl is usually in long-sleeves). I would say on top of those, my breastfeeding pillow (just a cheap Mamas and Papas one), my Ergobaby Embrace wrap/carrier hybrid, our Totter & Tumble play mat, our little moses basket with handles (possibly John Lewis), multi-tog sleep sacks, and our digital ear thermometer!

My daughter's 2.5 now and 90% of the stuff we had I've got rid off aside from clothes and prams. I would get a different carried the second time round, I didn't love mine but it was a gift so I felt like I had to use it. I kept our play mat because it was very well loved and used. I'm so glad you've mentioned the first aid course. So so vital. My little girl choked the other day, full on blue. No one in the house (8 adults) knew what to do except me. Thank goodness I was there. We've now amended our childcare expectations - you must be qualified in first aid and be confident.

Hi Hannah, I'd really encourage you to try to babywear Rowan on your back in the carrier. I loved doing that with my three children. Its even more comfortable that in the front and you have your front free (for cooking for example) and the baby cannot reach it. Also they do see more at your back, if they are not sleepy thats a plus. It takes some bravery but once you've mastered it, you'll ask yourself why you have not done that earlier.
