@@RedcoatsReturn well I am only 11 months in on this pipe smoking journey and own about 22 pipes which I rotate through each day. I still have a lot to learn, not sure why some pipes smoke different cuts better, or on different days. I still can't pick out flavors as many of mine are aromatic blends. I am learning youtube and editing as well. Glad I found your channel, it's a pleasure to see your journey of which you share.

Nice selection of pipes. Bottled in bond means that Whiskey has at least four years of age on it before it's bottled, two years of that on oak. The mash has to be at least 80% corn the balance most probably being barley malt which has excess enzymes to convert the corn starch to sugars. Funnily enough the origins of the word Maize come from a Carribbean native language via Spanish, and like the USA, in Australia, maize can be legally sold as corn. Don't ask me why an Australian would be telling a Swiss Englishman all this trivia, I do have a keen interest in brewing, but all the same, what a strange old world we live in. Always enjoy your posts. All the Best.

I think that cob pipes especially go well with aromatic blends. A while back I heard someone make a comment that in Britain, they call all crops, "corn". (There are also places in the Bible that talk about "corn", which confused me because corn was a new world plant). I eventually learned that in Britain, "corn" is the word for what we call, "grain", and that we are the ones who started to use the word "corn" to refer exclusively to what everybody else calls "maize" Apparently the early colonists started calling maize, Indian corn, meaning, "the corn that the Indians grow" and it stuck.
@RedcoatsReturn
@RedcoatsReturn Год назад
That could be, I use the term cereal as a generic and maize in Europe and corn in America. Probably, someone made a documentary about that. Anyways…I love corn bread when I visit America…its delicious! 😋 🌽

Hiyas Lester mate, A very nice group of cobs to add to your collection. Do you leave the stem base in the chamber? I prefer cutting that stem base out and filling the void with pipe mud. I hate the taste of burning stem. Cane Rod Piper has a terrific video on how he removes the stem and replaces it with pipe mud. Pipe On ✓ ol' mate, Gary
@RedcoatsReturn
@RedcoatsReturn Год назад
I haven’t tried that…but…I sacrifice the last 10% of the tobacco to the Gods…and don’t notice too much the stem char smoke. My oldest cob has nearly no stem protrusion in the bowl. However, I’ll try it one day…to compare…and for the fun if it too 😄😊👍👍

I bought a 9mm cob from GermanUS a few months back thanks to Paladin Piper's recommendation. The bottom of the bowl has the Missouri Meerschaum label, so I'm assuming they modded it. Not cheap, but it's a nice pipe, and my only 9mm cob. Kind of strange that it was made in Missouri, modded in Germany, and shipped back to the US. 😀 PS, I love corn bread! With beans of course. 😁

Until you were kind enough to send me a cob pipe - video coming soon!- it never occurred to me that they were really made from cobs: I thought it was just the name of the design. Do they impart any flavour when you smoke them?
@RedcoatsReturn
@RedcoatsReturn Год назад
My dear Miss Worm 🥰 Some say that they burn out quicker than briar wood pipes but its proven that a corn cob pipe lasts at least 10 years even if you smoke it regularly. That means the taste of the tobacco is not influenced much by the char of the corn cob walls. I can testify, that…I can’t taste anything but the tobacco…if one smokes it slowly…one bowl of tobacco…over an hour. Thats why…even today…they are popular and still made by the Missouri Meerschaum Company in the U.S.A. 😉🌽
