Your visceral hatred for EotV just makes my day, lmao. I personally like that story for the trashy, edgy and smutty romp that it is, but I can totally see why that vibe doesn't work for a lot of people. Loved your live with Liene, you guys ripped that book apart and I was all here for it 🤣 Glad that there were some other lovely reads to cleanse your palate this month though. I should really give Dresden a shot sometime soon... maybe next year? Great wrap-up!!
@@alexnieves Totally fair, hahah. At least you got something positive out of it then, bc now you know you'll never have to check out another Kristoff release again, helps with the TBR 🤣
LMAO at your vitrol for EOTV. Reminds me I have to go check out that live with Liene. I also read the Hobbit in October, so good to be back with good Tolkien material.
Yes the Dresden rereadability is just off the charts! And now I’m so scared off of trying Jay Kristoff, I fear I’m going to fall more to your side of the coin
I remember reading that little sneak peek/excerpt of EotV in the group chat and I couldn't even make it through like 3 pages so I applaud you for making it through THREE HUNDRED?!?!?! I'd say good for you, except you clearly were suffering haha
@@alexnieves omg there definitely lying I have read two books by Jay kristoff and I absolutely hated both of them no way empire of the vampire comes close to the stand they must had been smoking something 🚬💨😤🤣😂
Here's what I read in October Bag of bones by Stephen king The dead zone by Stephen king Fairytale by Stephen king Dracula by bram stoker 1q84 by haruki murakami Speaking bones by ken Liu Sorrowland The deal by elle Kennedy The dead romantics by Ashley Poston Gray mountain by john Grisham Northanger abbey by jane Austen Shadows of self by Brandon Sanderson Meet you in the middle by Devon daniels Both/and by huma abidine her memoir Flying solo by Linda Holmes Still just a geek by will wheaton his memoir
@@alexnieves I liked it but I much prefer the book called Dracula the undead by Dacre stoker it's really great it's a sequel to bram stoker Dracula it came out years ago
I'm currently reading ghost story from Dresden files. I finished proven guilty and small favour last month, this is my first time reading these books and honestly I'm amazed, I'm happy that you are re reading them.
Read with Cindy called JK out for being an Edgelord on Twitter and he basically said well you're not wrong. I'm still enjoying it so far, but I agree most of the characters are unlikeable.
I disagree with your opinion of underworld. Being a heterosexual female who can totally see that Kate Beckingsale is worth the viewing of everyone of those movies. 😀
Lucky me having 0 interest in reading Jay Kristoff lol wait, people compare it to The Stand? Wtf I really must get back to Dresden, I've 3 books left and that latest novella. I've the short story collections but I'll save those for either a re-read or when I'm missing the characters before the next one comes out. In October I finished: ASOIAF 1: A Game of Thrones (re-read) LPQ 4: Price of Spring - This is my book of the month. Such an excellent conclusion and it's become one of my favourite series. I've Abraham's other series Dagger & Coin on my kindle ready to go. I also read: *Classic* Old Man at the Bridge - Ernest Hemingway *Fantasy* Discworld City Watch 1: Guards Guards - The pick me up I needed. *Historical-Fantasy* Sarantine Mosaic 1: Sailing to Sarantium - I've since finished the duology, it's fantastic. GGK's become one of my favourite authors this year. *Sci-Fi - Classic* Counting Cats in Zanxibar - Gene Wolfe The Hero - GRRM The Runners - GRRM *Steampunk Fantasy* Books of Babel 1: Senlin Ascends And for now I've put down Shadows Linger, the 2nd book in Glen Cook's Black Company series. It's fine but not calling to me right now. Maybe try again someday.
Ugh, did Jay Kristoff apply the "let's randomly throw in some words from the local language to make people believe they are in that country" that he applied to Japanese in Stormdancer?!? I'm so glad I refuse to touch his books since I read the sample of Stormdancer. As a French, I'd probably feel insulted by his current attempt a cultural butchering.
@@alexnieves he doesn't learn.. he got quite some criticism for the misuse of Japanese words in Stormdancer, that he admitted doing on purpose, and he just brushed it off with "it's Fantasy, don't take this so seriously". But the whole thing was so badly done, the 3 chapters I read felt more like maybe Britain in the 19th century, with some clothing and make-up more or less badly used to make one believe this was Japanese based. I can still remember the description of the MC's attire as a "hakama with an intricately tied belt", which makes no sense at all..... ugh...
My favorite reads in October Still just a geek by will wheaton his memoir I really enjoyed it he revealed a lot in his memoir if you are a fan of him you definitely should read this book The dead zone by Stephen king I was quite surprised how much I enjoyed this book definitely one of kings best Bag of bones by Stephen king this book is so underrated and way better than the adaptation starring pierce Brosnan king did a great job
Great wrap up Alex- I'm so glad you enjoyed Full Metal Alchemist. I recently watched your live show re Empire of the Vampire and I've decided to give the book a hard pass- it just sounds so woke, disturbing and plain gross in parts. The fact that he had to swear so prolifically begs the question- was he struggling for plot?!. It is in NO WAY similar to The Stand at all- someone must have been high as a kite to make that statement- I mean for a start I actually enjoyed The Stand plus it was apocalyptic horror not a gross out orgy fest.
Hey stranger (see, I too can hint that you’re not-Gandalf) So Fullmetal Alchemist was in a GoT situation? Love the shade for the super specific/precise rating calculations 🥲 You dnfed it right before it suddenly turned brilliant! Nooo not truth be told 😭 The Hobbit should have been 10 movies 👌
Wow, a lot to digest here. So many layers. Sort of in regards to FMA, the original anime is a bit different than the manga. Super specific ratings are silly, like you really think one book is .375 better than another? I'll forever be upset with myself for giving up just before EotV became my favorite book of all time, truth be told. Why stop at 10?
