Still popping in as I near the end of the series! Just finished Towers Of Midnight and it was a strong book! (Please tell me you too saw the whole Zelda Lost Woods angle in the Tower of Ghenjei? Definitely felt that!) Loved Nynaeve's character immensely in this one again, but there was something for every main character (too much to list all of it) here and that made it even better! After books and books of imagining Thom would end up confronting Morgase again (there was definitely setup for that!), this came out of left field for me and felt super contrived, but I enjoy the both of them so that's fine. I wonder whether them getting together/bonding will serve any specific purpose through the Final Battle though? If so, that would be really great.

Was told to read this before oathbringer. Got to chapter 3 and decided I'm gonna just watch a summary, I love Sando's stories, but comedy is not his strong suit. Thanks.

I guess it doesn't work if you don't like Lift, BUT it definitely works as "the next Stormlight small book", it kinda feels like a DLC (lmao) for Words of Radiance and it was actually the book that I made the most annotations because it had a lot of important stuff. Granted, I haven't read most of the Cosmere yet, just Way of Kings, Words and Warbreaker.

This book had a great upswing, characters finally getting their dues and getting some wins, and your review was also excellent, agreed with all your points and shoutout to your FFX reference, totally on point. I was thinking while reading Rand's final scene on Dragonmount... we know now that there are 2 more books after this one, but when it was first published, where people reading Rand's monologue about ending the Pattern and thinking 'Wow, this is how it all ends?' for one hot minute? Can't wait to come back once it's time to tackle the next book! Edit: People are calling you out about the Blue Ajah being abolished and not the Red, but when I heard your review I got more that you were talking about how the Reds were on precarious footing after all that Elaida did and all the manipulation and how their entire mission (gentling men who can channel) was essentially gone now, so this was Egwene's olive branch to bring them back into the fold instead of doing the same thing that Elaida did (abolish an Ajah due to differences). No worries about that.

I've always preferred the Hobbit over LOTR; the simplicity and more linear storytelling makes it much easier to read. Plus I can relate to Bilbo more than Frodo. Throughout Bilbo's adventure he constantly thinks about his hobbit-hole, smoking his pipe on the porch, eating and living a quiet simple life. Like Bilbo I'm on my own adventure (Army), but I'm ready to go home permanently and enjoy a quiet simple life again.

SPOILERS : My theory about the resurrection and the arms is that Hadrian was put back in a clone of himself and since he would've lose his mind if he knew because he is so against clones, they cut his left arm off because that's where he had all his scars and he would have figured it out had he seen it untouched.

I dunno what y'all are talking about. I enjoyed every second with Lift. Yes she was childish but also hilarious, and it was nice to have the lighter tone of narration match the younger character at the center. Let the story seem childish when the character is a child.

Thank you for saying what many of us felt. Lift is cringeworthy. She makes juvenile jokes and comments that seem completely out of place in the Stormlight Archive series. By comparison, Dawnshard was excellent and i highly recommend it.

I totally agree and loved the book. Herbert's writing style gives a tremendous amount of information and we get to know each character very intimately...it took me a good 100 pages or so for the book to "click" in my brain. Once the story and style of writing clicks, it is a wonderful reading experience. It just requires a little faith in the process at first. Thank you for the review!

I have read both Jurassic park and Congo… Since I had watched Jurassic park movie (it’s my very first favorite movie and it’s my life time favorite though there are many good better best movies) my imagination of book clashed with the movie. But when it came to Congo, it was totally different, I had been watching a movie while I was reading and years later I found the actual Congo the movie and it was no where near the Congo the imaginary movie I watched while reading…

Another one done for me too, really enjoyed your review and agreed with your points, though for me the book was still in meh territory, not great. Though, I also loved Nynaeve's Golden Crane speech and plot for Lan, and I was also sad that this was Jordan's last book and would have loved to see how he dealt with bringing it all together in the end. Still, excited to see where things go from here!

Just read the preview of the first 5 chapters of «Empire of Silence», were I caught: Jadd: The Jaddite Faith from several Guy Gavriel Kay novels (GGK’s mix of Christian Trappings and the Sun Cults from Antiquity: Unsurprising given Ruocchio have stated himself as a fan of GGK, with signed books by him) & Jeddah, an Ancient Port City in Modern Day Saudi Arabia Birth Vats for the Nobility: «Brave New World» by Aldous Huxley Hadrian’s home planet of Delos: Greek Island, Holy Site for the worship of Apollo and Artemis and the Athenian-led Delian League which fought Sparta in the Peloponnesian War of the 5th Century BC + The Name of the Mega-Corporation running the parks in «Westworld» Hadrian’s brother Crispin: The St. Crispin’s Day Speech from «Henry V» The Alien Antagonists, the Cielcin: Ciel (French: Sky) + sin (Mr. Ruocchio is Catholic, alright! 😄) Lothrian: Have some similar language structure as the Free City of Lorath from GRRM’s «ASOIAF» + Lotharingia/Lorraine in Modern Day France Hadrian’s family name Marlowe and their Devil Symbol: Christopher Marlowe wrote «Doctor Faustus», about the eponymous scholar who make a pact with the devil Mephistopheles (+ a reversed color scheme of the Manchester United Devil Logo, given the Marlowes’ English Ancestry?) The Mother of Hadrian’s Family Name, Kephalos: Cephalus, whom Socrates have a dialogue with in Plato’s «Republic». Cephalus give as a definition of justice «to give each what is owed to them», which Socrates refutes by saying that returning a borrowed knife to someone who has turned mad and might therefore hurt themselves, is not just…(cue philosophizing on justice and madness!😅)

okay im sorry if I'm the only theon stan in the comments, but @1:11:30, i just wanna point out, that Jon is 14, but was raised his whole life by the loving and honorable Starks! meanwhile, Theon was like, 10! when he was shipped off as a hostage. older than bran, the Only remaining son of Balon Greyjoy. so he Was raised in the ironborn culture, before being displaced into the north, which i think plays a lot into how and why he's so different than Jon there

Yeah, BG3 definitely devoured many hours of free time this year, and the Divinity board game from Larian also just arrived, which will consume a good deal more, I'm sure. I've been needing a lot more easy/comfort reads over the last few months, but have at least managed things like the Conquerors trilogy and The Hexologists. Also finishing up Lightbringer on audio, as well as continuing things like Discworld, Dresden Files, and Forgotten Realms.

I read many of Crichton's books but only got around to reading "Jurassic Park" last year. Really enjoyed it, and it does have much more than the movies. You might like his "Dragon Teeth" novel which I also read maybe two years ago. It's about dinosaur fossil hunters in the late 1800s. No live dinos chasing anyone, but still an interesting read.

Wait. Liene hasn't read Light Bringer yet?? How? 😂 She reads so much. I had a goal to read 100 books this year and I passed that easily (I listen to audiobooks all the time). I had hoped to start and complete Malazan, but only got through Deadhouse Gates... I think a big part of me failing at this was that the audiobooks aren't available through my library and I'm super slow at reading with my eyes so chunky books are hard for me to get through not on audio. That said I did get a kindle this year and have physically read a ton more this year than I have since high school.
