This is awesome! I have a 1906 Craftsman in Salt Lake and have been considering finishing off the basement. This gives me some hope that it can be done!

Lots of hard work, we do this type of work all the time. We upload video's almost every week on RU-vid at Golds concrete in Denver Colorado.

Those wooden posts supporting the house are very weak. Probably doesn't matter now though.

I have a basement much smaller same style unfortunately half of mine is a crawl space. Don't know that mine can ever be a useable finished space. Awesome work on yours though.

Working on a similar project in my house that's built in 1899. The stonewalls are similar to yours, only that they are 35 inches and the house lays on a hill. Have wiped the floor down to the mountain and will need to to do about a foot more. How did you construct the drainage system in your basement? I also wish to keep the original stone walls, and planning on getting heating in the concrete floors to keep the basement continuously warm.

Hey Mats, your project sounds ambitious. Because our home sits on a bench above the river basin, we do not have a water table problem. Our eaves hang out a couple feet beyond our walls so rain is carried away from the a couple feet. We have not had moisture issues in the basement other than a sprinkler line problem that we fixed quickly. Your radiant heat idea sounds great! Be sure to share some video!

Who poured your floor. I have a home in Salt Lake and finding a cement contractor has been very difficult. Thanks!
@vestarealestate4940

Hey Ashley, funny story. It took us four months to find a contractor that would do that job and only after persistent effort were we able to convince them to do it. We were going to promote our concrete contractor in the video and he asked us to refrain from promoting him. He said it was the hardest concrete job he had done in 15 years and he would never do it again. D'oh!

@@vestarealestate4940 Thanks for the reply. That is typical of the responses I have received as well. I don't even have the steps and curbs you had to put in but most shy away from the work.

@@vestarealestate4940 Why this was the hardest job he'd done in 15 years? What makes this kind of job more difficult than other jobs? Thanks in advance!
@vestarealestate4940
@vestarealestate4940 3 года назад
@@pancakepancake3789 The difficulty was in removing the dirt (hard as concrete type dirt) from a closed in interior space. Our contractor normally did exterior type work with heavy equipment available. The limited space and tight work conditions with hard materials made it a real chore. We couldn't find anyone else who would do the job!

Is there a code requirement for egress windows
@vestarealestate4940
@vestarealestate4940 4 года назад
Charles, great question. In Utah, a law was passed in 2015 that prevents municipalities from requiring owners of old homes to cut into foundations to create larger egress where that work may jeopardize the structure of the home. This rock foundation structure qualifies under that law. The windows will fold down to allow someone to escape. Also, a built in craftsman style bench will be constructed under the bedroom windows to allow someone to climb out of the window. This will pass Ogden City code.
