Thanks for the video, it is emotionally draining dealing with the credit coming out of foster care without family. Then I got a degree with some student loans and it hit my credit for over a 100 points before I graduated. It screwed my out of getting a new car to be able to do some independent contracting side gig Uber eats/instacart ect
Thank you so much for this information God bless you for wanting to help others that don't understand credit or may not have credit at all I'm subscribing now
I learned that if you have late payments, charge offs during the Covid-19 pandemic, write a letter to the CEO of the company explaining that due to Covid what you went through. Send the letter “certified.” I had ONE 30 day late in posted on January 2022 (credit card), ONE (bank) charge off/closed account. I done what was told and the Credit Card company corporate office called me and took of the 30 day late payment plus sent me a letter stating they had contacted the 3 Credit Bureaus. The bank corporate office contacted me stating they will send me a letter after their investigation, I’m still waiting on the bank letter as of to date.
Yes, but honestly(I was a HS teacher for 14 years) most HS students aren't at a maturity level to really take it in, they need a refresher when they get in the world, get their first job, graduate college, buy their first car, get their first credit card, etc.
UNGRATEFUL!!! I don’t know how many people realizes Mrs. Hill is giving you HIGH QUALITY FREE information that people charge up to thousands of dollars $$$ for! Some are scams, some do illegal things to “repair” your credit because they make unrealistic promises. Thank you Mrs. Hill for this PRICELESS LIFE CHANGING information!
This is in the book credit secrets 😂😂 with the writing & Credit Fair Act. The book was made years ago! Any inaccurate inquiries, debt, but building your credit is common sense, because credit karma tell you what makes up your credit & how to utilize your credit.
I have an 842 FICO myself. I hit 800 4 yrs ago. It took me 6 yrs of consistency to get it. There are no quick fixes good people. It takes time, discipline, and consistency. It won’t happen overnight, a few weeks, or even in a few months, but it will eventually happen.
@@dooley4334 818 credit score. No negative accounts. Paid off car and private student loan. No late payments. Credit history since 2005. 3 credit cards all paid on time never late. Never carry a balance on any credit cards. You can have 800+ while living in the hood!
It makes a huge difference when you speak in a measured way, clearly. So many other RU-vidrs speak too fast, ambiguously and don't explain what they are referring to. You did an excellent job for the the rest of us to understand the topic.
What I don’t understand is if you don’t use credit and everything is paid off, then your FICO score goes down. Then when you re-apply for credit you get high rates and then you get negatively impacted everything your credit is pulled. I honestly think the credit game is a joke.
Complete scam…use cash for everything…it’s just a tool for the government to manipulate people into being CONSUMERS…the elite can’t control the world without us sleepwalking through the malls, car lots and every damn thing else and puppets like Miss Hill is with the shits and apart of the problem. Sorry, not sorry…I hate the credit-con.
It is. If the current administration really gave AF, they'd do something about these private businesses ruining people's lives over a $30 medical bill from 2018. 😡
Yes, I was looking at this 2 yr old car and they were very shocked that a black woman had such a high score, the manager came out and remarked, this is the highest score I've seen all day. I didn't buy there as not much difference than brand new, I went for the brand new.
Anyone will roll out the carpet with a 760 score. You get the same rates with that as you would a 800,850 score anyone that tells you differently just wants to beat their chest over a 800 score. 760 is the goal, nothing wrong aiming for 800 but it's not necessary.
Ms. Hill, I am 62 yrs old & struggled for 20 yrs alone without my kids, kicked out of my home & now I am healed to getting my life in order for a career & a 1st credit card of my own! Whew! You are such a Blessing to me and you have answered several of my questions in just this one video!! Bless you girl!! I am liking & subscribing to your channel. Thank YOU so very very much! 😂
Hi Shaheedah. I found out something VERY interesting from my credit union today that (If your not currently aware...) you may want to share with your viewers. If on Wednesday in the 7 day plan to better your credit; you ask for an extension of your credit limit, you may qualify but that is at the CURRENT APR rate. My rep just shared this with me. She said, "the banks won't tell you this but it's almost like applying for brand new credit, so if the APR is high (like it is now as of Sept. 25, 2023) it's actually better NOT to get an increase in one's credit limit and better to continue paying down what's owed to increase your score. My current rate is 12.9% but if they granted me an increase in credit limit; my remaining balance's APR would now be adjusted to 23%. Almost DOUBLE! Just FYI...LOVE YOUR SHOW!
Great to know! I wonder if that is specific to credit unions. I did an increase on my Discover card and the rate did not change. It could be that the original balance was a promotional offer? Thank you for sharing. Will keep this in mind for sure.
Yeah that should only apply to new purchases. Previous balance should remain with previous interest rate. Remember that asking for a higher credit line is only open credit amount. Not to go spending that new line of credit.
Because high school kids are too clever and will ask too many questions and call the bs scheme out for what it is. Imagine kid in school no family vs kid with family. Am sure that teacher is gonna co-sign for that kid with no family walking 2 miles to work each day 😅
@@magicworld3242 Please explain? This person did not say they were broke or in debt, but what suggests something of the opposite -- with a score above 800, he/she is probably doing fairly well, or at least, like was said ... keeping a very steady life. Which is pretty darn good in itself. I don't understand why it seems you are chopping someone down for their discipline and success?
I'm 63 years old. I wish I could have learned this when I was 20. I have great credit, but this will kick it up a notch. And so simple! I am sending this to a lot of people. You are a teacher. Thank you for this.
Bridget Barnett I am right with you! I am 63 years old also. Shaheedah is very knowledgeable and has an awesome presentation. They didn't teach us these things in school, but It was up to us to do the research. Can you only imagine if we had RU-vid back in our day! Lol. I going to share her information to friends and family as well.
God bless you ma'am, the things this young lady is making available to us, ( my awesome wife & I are also 63,we also we not taught how to wisely use credit. We just learned by watching our familieswork & save! It is truly sad to not have the knowledge, that is important to first create, then pass on a legacy! As you are, we also are determined to build something for our grandchildren to carry on!
You forgot something. If you have 2 credit cards eith high interest, apply for a new credit line with zero interest for 18- 21 mo. You will likely get a higher credit line, tranfer those 2 credit card balances and keep the new credit line with some credit on it. You can make payments straight to principal with zero interest and pay off debt faster.
Thank you, Ms. Hill. You're the first 1st person I've watched who talks about people with bad credit and how they can fix that bad credit after having some issues. The sad part is having the system establish laws that hold 7 years of history and allocating 35% weight to that history; a hard punishment for people who have gone through hardship but genuinely are trying to fix that problem with no solution in sight. So thank you for mentioning the 'goodwill' deletion letter and 'pay to delete' solution after trying all other avenues.
I cannot thank you enough for the quality information and easy-to-follow steps. I am SO glad I found you and that you lay it out on the table and keep it easy to understand. Thank you SO much! I will def. share your channel!
Miss Hill, I have watched a lot of credit advise RU-vid videos and yours is by far the easiest , most comprehensive video out there. Thank you so very much for taking YOUR time to help anyone looking for the elusive best scores!
This is true. Especially for mortgages. 780 will get you the lowest set interest rate and having an 800+ score will still get you the same interest rate. Like right now an 800 won't get you a 3% interest rate. You'll still get a mortgage rate around 7%. The only way to lower that is to throw down enough cash to get points or wait and hope that rates go down.
Thank you Sooo much! Ive made so many mistakes in college and beyond, and actually Dont have credit established... I know it wont be easy...But Im going to get started... I am determined to have a 700+ FICO
thank you for taking the time and putting the work in to make this video to educate. had youtube existed when i was first establishing credit, i’d be much better off
You are a women of wisdom!!! You are the best RU-vidr for advise on credit and homeownership. Your wisdom helped me get my house last year. Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for your video, I will get on this ASAP because most people are not aware of how finances work, when a lot of problems can be avoided or amended.
great info i wish this was readily available years ago, thanks for explaining this process in detail. recently my score just hit 850. im so proud of this accomplishment people it can be done.
Ive been serious about my credit for the past 3 years and I'm proud to say it's made a difference..did some of the things u said but I will include the new things u said I'm sure ill see a better score
Hi Ms. Hill, very informative video and spot on information. I’ve done credit counseling informally in the military with other service members and your video is spot on! Love the 7-day objective layout. You’re doing God’s work ma’am because people really to hear this because we don’t teach it in school.
Amen! Yes defitnely from God. I had not long before stumbling into video prayed where to start to get ready for home buying procress. 🙏 answer to prayer!
Really enjoyed this video. Impressed by her knowledge and ability to break things down in an easy to understand and easy to execute plan. I particularly appreciate that she is well-spoken without a lot of umms and ahhs in her dialogue. That can be distracting to the point of clicking off the video. The common sense approach used in this video makes it easy for practically anyone to take action TODAY and begin to repair their credit and increase their credit score. Kudos to you! Excellent advice! Thanks so much for sharing.
Great video Mrs. Hill as usual. Regarding to adding an authorized user, parents with good credits can also add their children (teenagers) as authorize user to help them establish their credit. Of course don't give the child the card(s). Also, do not add the child to the cards with higher balances (I'm sure if you have good credit, you don't have any high balances lol). My parents did this for me and my credit was in the high 700s at age 22yrs. It's also important for said parents to educate the child(ren) about credit before the child starts using credit. Keep impacting our community love. You're the best Mrs. Hill.
You are right. I did this for my daughter and her score is higher than mine now. She gets a YES when taking care of business! We know our children...please be honest with yourself about your child and the student they are while you are teaching this important lesson..I'm still working on my son but my daughter was a good student and understood the importance of the lesson and the weight of the responsibility it would carry in her life.
Nice advice here. Watched at 2x speed as I already knew a lot of these things, but nice to see it all in one place for those people just getting started!
This was very helpful. Thank you! You've just gained a new subscriber. I've bee doing these things all willy nilly not seeing much improvement until recently. Now that I have this tool (video) I can take the proper approach and secure property. Hallelujah!
@@ShaheedahHill Thank you so much. What are the sites we can get free credit scores from? I see Equifax does a 7 day trial. Do you know of any that provide your Fico scores (mortgage scores)? Also, what are the free credit monitoring sites?
Thank you soo much I didn’t know I could ask for good will delete…. This will def help my credit … I love watching your videos you have def taught me a lot preparing me to buy a home
Wow! I just subscribed to your channel because this video was the most clear information about credit scores that I've ever heard or read about. Thank you so much Shaheedah! 🤗
Excellent vid Shaheedah. This should help a lot of people. Personal finance is my favorite space and I hope you will continue to publish videos on these topics in addition to real estate. One note on the credit side would be, please be careful cosigning for anything, even if it's family. I've seen that go bad several times.
NEVER EVER co-sign for anyone. Co-signing hurts your DTI (Debit to income ration). Most importantly, if the persons doesn't pay, it's your responsibility to make the payments or your credit takes a hit.
For this information! I’m a realtor from Oregon and I just shared this with all of my friends on Facebook because I think that this is such a great information and helped me and myself put an action plan together and I am grateful that you were here to share this with us all!
Well done… excellent information… biggest mistake I ever made was paying off credit cards in my 30s and closing them out. My average length of credit would have been stellar.
I coming up! 1/22 Chapter 7 discharged - 2/22 Auto loan (14% int.) - 3/22 secured eRewards card ($600) - paid everything on time - 10/22 secured card => cash rewards ($2K) - score almost back up to 700! I’m on my way and not looking back!
You are a honest person GOD bless you My first watching your videos! Good info that will help me a lot I will pass it on to a couple of hundred people.. incredible
Thank You so much for all that you do giving out the information that you do it’s very helpful and appreciated by a lot of people..You are the best hands down👍🏾❤️ GBU
I really enjoyed your video, and I like how you broke it down into daily steps -- that helps so it doesn't feel so overwhelming when juggling a lot of debt. Great job, thank you!! 🌞👍🤑
OMG.. I thought I would try and see if I could get one of my credit card limits increased and they did it instantly! I was pleasantly surprised! Thanks for your advice. I would have never tried to do that!
Thank you so much for this great advice! Is there any way you could do a video on the best way to pay down credit card debt? Appreciate you sooo sooo much!
This is amazing! This will definitely take a few weeks or months to implement but I took notes. I’ve been focused on the wrong parts. You made this so easy! Thank you!! I will provide updates. :)
I appreciate the time you put into this very informative video in aiding me to restoring my credit with a plan that will benefit me. Thanks for dropping jewels!❤️🙏
Have never checked my credit score. I work a couple jobs. Helped my wife double her salary too, and we saved up enough to buy a house in cash, all while renting. Didn't take long either.
My struggle is paying off my credit cards. I’m in Houston and am working on my “game plan” by a lender. I too am a teacher and this will be my first home purchase. I’m just so tired. I’m 51 and still chasing home ownership before my youngest child graduates in 2 years.
Try talking to your bank about consolidation in a form of a installment loan. This will free up your credit cards capacity, which will bring your utilization down and bring your score up. And most often you'll get a lower interest rate. Win , win situation. Just be careful not to run your credit cards back up, and put yourself back in the same struggle.
Create a zero budget. That’s when you get your paycheck and decide where every penny is going to go. If there is any extra money, use it to put on your credit cards. Use the snowball method. While continuing to pay the minimum on all your cards, Start with the smallest balance first to apply the extra money you have. If you were paying the minimum $25 and found an extra $31 in your budget to pay on it every month that’s $56 a month. Once that card is paid off you use that same $56 to pay on your next card. So the minimum $25 + $56 means you’re paying $81 dollars a month until it’s paid off. Keep doing this until they’re all paid off. The only way this works is to stop using your cards so much. Buy a cup of coffee and pay it right back off just to say you used it but you can’t make large purchases during this process.
Thank you so much for sharing golden information to improve our financial health. I will definitely subscribe and share this video with my loved ones. You are very articulate and have compiled a book of important information. You are a blessing sister, keep up the good work ☺️☺️ Happy New Year🎉🎉
I just found your channel and man you are good! Keep up the good work! Thank you for imparting this knowledge. There are a lot of credit advisors on YT! I haven’t heard any give their credit score much less have a 847…almost perfect! Things that make you go 🤔 I definitely trust your advice and will dig deeper into everything you share have shared!
Thank you so much ! I’ve been rewatching this video all week, I’ve gotten up to Thursday of doing the nitty gritty hard work. I sent a few goodwill deletions, calculated my utilization with 4 goals until 10%. Many blessings for breaking this all the way down! I’ve done clever girl finance, budgetnista, this has been by far the most informative breakdown in a way that holds myself accountable in a way I clearly understand. Many blessings Ms. Hill ! (Journey to homeownership❤️)
10/20 Check in: my goodwill deletions weren’t honored, credit increase denied, but that’s okay ! I’m actively working on getting to my 50% credit utilization and building 3.5% down payment. I’ll check in again. Thank you Ms. Hill ! ❤
Requesting a credit limit increase is the best tip! Bank of America let’s you do it online and it will immediately approve or deny your request. I’ve been approved for what I requested twice. And it helped my score 👍🏼
Great info. I used a lot of these things to rebuild my score in the last couple years. One important thing to note is that most of these free credit monitoring services (Credit Karma, Credit Wise, etc) give you your Vantage scores but most lenders use your FICO scores and there can be a huge difference in those scores.
Thanks for sharing and yes you are correct. Your credit cards are usually giving a FICO score and MyFICO is what most member of my First TIme Buyers Group use to get the most accurate lender score.
@@ShaheedahHill Good content and info that a lot of people need. I'll probably never get a 800 score because It's to hard for me to pass up a good credit card Sign up bonus but I'm fine with being in the mid 700s
@@ShaheedahHill FYI: I have MyFICO Premier subscription and even-though it's expensive, you get your current FICO scores for all 3 bureaus for every FICO model in existence - FICO 2 thru 10. Experian is also a good alternative. Experian offers a credit score monitoring subscription service for half the price of MyFICO and it gives your FICO scores w/all 3 bureaus for the most widely used FICO scoring models.
This video is great ! I’ve done the disputes for friends and it worked each time. I also use auto pay for all bills where the amount doesn’t change , for the bills that fluctuate I want to look at what I’m being charged for before I pay the bill
Oh u are god's blessing..... I was just thinking how can I get my credit better n your video popped up. Wow 😳 working on it now thank u so much I don't feel lost now
I showed this video to my kids, because I'm teaching them about credit. Your information is so simple to understand, and I thank you for that. You have a new subscriber ❤
You are such a great educator! The way you present the information with explanations and examples are definitely appreciated. What if someone doesn’t have credit cards? I paid them off 10 yrs ago and now realize I need at least 1 if not 2 cards. Should a person start with a secured card? Thanks so much for all that you do on this channel.
Try to apply for a credit card. You might get one with a small limit and you can hold from. The company will let you know if your card needs to be a secure (deposit $$$) card.
definitely your teacher skills coming through...thanks for this, I did a similar process prior to buying my house but I still cicked on this video so I can share it with my friends and family who need this information!
Love this video Shaheeda, thank you! Any thoughts on emailing the CEO directly to have late payments removed? I have heard folks have used this strategy but would love to hear your thoughts!
You can excalate as necessary, some companies give their customer service representative to authorize a goodwill deletion but if you are not having any luck then go to the top. Thanks for watching.
I sent a letter to general CS of car dealership due to late payments. I received response from CEO thanking me for letter and removing 3 late payments!
