My order from the Hunter's Lodge finally arrived! Let's unbox it and see what I got!

So I took the plunge and ordered a gun from the Hunter's Lodge. It was a unique experience to say the least and ended up with me hounding them about when they had planned on shipping my rifle as
I ordered in January and got it at the end of March. Overall I m pleased with the gun that I got, it is incomplete and will need parts purchased and assembled but I enjoy tinkering so for the money I think I got what I paid for. More to come with this project. Stay tuned.

Rifle No.4, Mark I: Missing Safety catch, Bolt head (wrong bolt, No.5), magazine internals, rear sight parts, barrel bands, Front sight ears...basically a pile of junk stripped for parts for someone else! Also, is the magazine box the correct one for a No 4? If you paid $180 US for it, plus 60 odd for shipping, you got Flim-Flammed but Good. In Australia, such a wreck would barely make AUD$100 (US$67)... DocAV

@@milsurpmagazine9515 Try Liberty 🗽 🌲 Tree Parts in Maine. They will have EVERYTHING you need. I’m restoring a bunch of those #4 MK 1s and MK 1/2s. So… on the round cocking piece Vs. flat style… the round design was a Pre-War Style that took a lot of complicated machining and tooling to create. The flat style cocking piece was last prone to snag, and required less complex machining and tooling to complete. The design allowed for simpler tooling, less machine steps, easy production for less trained/ skilled workers and was a Wartime Expediency Production style. Longbranch was Canadian and they shared parts with Savage Arms in America and Canada back and forth. The early round style cocking pieces got used up in Production mostly around 1942… but are sometimes seen in Production as late as 1943 when more Stocks of Parts were rediscovered and put to use. Savage Early Production was the same. Savage parts are marked with an S. My Father was a Union Man and Essential War Worker who helped set up the Savage Arms Factory #4 Line for U.S. Property/ Lend Lease Production Enfields in Utica, New York. He went back and forth between Longbranch ‘s Canadian and the Savage American and Canadian Factories helping to get the Production Lines up and running. Both Longbranch and Savage shared their excess parts during the War. Around 1944 Savage ended their Production Run and delivered the remaining Parts to Longbranch for manufacture into Firearms. Several of my earliest Production Savage Enfields have the round cocking piece. They are interchangeable with the flat ones. Worn round style cocking pieces were replaced in the Field or Arsenal Factory Rebuilds ( FRRs) with the newer flat style piece. The round head cocking pieces would turn up in box 📦 lots in Arsenal Stores even up into 1954 and were still being used if New Old Stock on Hand.

I just got a Yugo 48A Mauser from Centerfire Systems for $319+shipping and its all matching serial numbers, with all parts sans cleaning rod. The bore looked like a sewer when I got it - been cleaning it every day and now it looks pretty good - might need to fire lap this one... which has worked really well for me in the past with other milsurps... That one there is no bargain IMHO even for $189. After you get through buying all of the parts... yeah. And you most likely wont' have the proper matches for that exact model. I was trying to find all the 22lr rifles, and even pistols( but I never actually researched if there was any of those) used in the US military. Sharp shooter Training or otherwise used during (@ the time) WWII. I had 2 rifles and the high end sights that they came with. When I was medically retired my disability pay didn’t start when the VA told me it would. And because of the financial stress I pretty much had to sell anything I owned of value, including my entire firearms collection… I did it to pay my bills to keep our cars and house… it was pointless of me to try, we still had to voluntarily give up a car, and sell our home for what we owed on it just to keep it from being foreclosed on. 10 years of active duty service, I spent collecting during my service as my hobby. It was all gone. I ended up having to move into my dad’s with my wife! It was like the only thing my service gave me was my spine injuries. I had a lot of fun guns in my collection as well. A Winchester semi auto shotgun that boasted a faster cycling rate of a 50cal machine gun, a numbers matching 9mm Luger that was a war trophy, even an Anschutz 22lr. Competition rifle, a nice 1911 and another 6 handguns at least and maybe 6-8 rifles including my first ever Ar15 I built myself. I love firearms and the development of new designs, I also really love marksmanship and shooting sports. I started In high school and it grew from there. Now I can’t even afford to get that collection started again. I could spend hours out shooting at targets for distance and grouping. I’ve moved so many times now, I couldn’t even tell you where I’d go to even find those 22’s here in this state. ……It’s not like I can afford it even if I did..

Couple Q's 1. Where did you get those hooks the rifles are on? Are they coated? 2. What's your spacing? Looks perfect. I have a walk-in in gun closet and want to put up hangars just like this.
@milsurpmagazine9515
@milsurpmagazine9515 6 месяцев назад
Amazon carries the gun hooks, just search gun hangers, they come in sets of two six or twelve I believe, they have a rubber protector on the inside of the hook. I spaced the butt end ones 7” apart and then eye balled the barrell ends based on how thick the hand guards were, it isn’t perfect but I like the way it turned out. The wood they hang on is just some old barn wood I found at a local sawmill I ripped in half and used tung oil on.
