I love this! I make my own face wash and use it twice a day. It consists of 1/4 cup of Besan (aka Gram) flower, 2 Tablespoons of White Turmeric powder, and 1 Tablespoon of Orange Peel powder. I mix the powders and save them in a glass jar. Each morning and night, I take some and make a paste with water, and add a teaspoon of MSM powder to it. Smooth it on my face and neck and then rinse with warm water. This mask dealt with all of my fine lines and adult acne. I’m loving your channel. ❤❤ Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us! 🌺💞
Thank you! I just turned 61, very fair-skinned and crepey - used to have oily and slightly acne-prone skin - so I will adopt this to my aging skin! I wanted to be a biochemist and couldn't, so I'm going to have fun figuring this out lol.
Thank you for this interesting recipe. I'll keep in mind next time I go to health food store! What skin type is it good for and what are the results to expect?
I haven't used makeup for over 30 years. The most I go for is some natural lip moisturiser. It is freeing and I'm so used to looking at my face, unadorned, I have no desire to begin using it again. I use natural oil on my face rather than creams, I'm content with how I look and skin feels and looks alive 👍
Aww thank you Katherine for the shout out!❤ an online Etsy shop is in the works 🤞🏻and as always, well done on your video. You have such a calming and genuine presence and I always learn something new! 7:45
I would love to learn more about your natural moisturizer and possibly purchase from your new etsy shop. One question -- is there any lanolin in it? I only ask because I unfortunately have an anaphylactic reaction to lanolin and it's in so very many effective moisturizers that I have to be super careful.....but I also still want to find quality natural products. It's a struggle, haha. Many blessings to you in your etsy adventure!
I used to use natural stuff only but I've changed since and now I use both: natural and less natural because there are many innovations in the skincare industry. However, I live in Europe and it's different when it comes to ingredients compared to US.
Same. I've struggled with acne my whole adult life and I've tried all natural skincare, diet, regular exercise, etc etc. for years. I will say cutting out dairy did a lot for me, but it didn't eliminate the acne I would get that time of the month. So last year I finally threw in the towel and looked to commercial products for oily acne prone skin with ingredients like retinoids, niacinamide, glycolic acid etc. and the results are stunning. I still have some ways to go, but now I only get very few tiny pimples that heal quickly, no more deep cystic acne and my skin is much smoother and more even in tone. I still love to use all natural products where I can, but skincare-wise I feel my quality of life has improved after including these not-so-natural products.
@@vienicestylesmeanwhile, the EU and Canada allows a bunch of food and cosmetic additives that the US has banned. It’s really not useful to only hinge your choices on whether it is banned in one area or another. Be scrupulous about ingredients from all regions and know your skin and body. Some people handle things fine, some do not.
Normally i don't agree with the fear mongering from green washing because most talk about "toxins" and "harmful chemicals" because literally things like salt, and even water are chemicals and both taking too much can kill you, but most of those ingredients weren't too bad. Except for the essential oils because for some people they can be irritating. As for the make your own sunscreen i wouldn't recommend because usually the SPF protection is about a 10 instead of a 50 which is what is best. Natural isn't always better.
I agree. I am sympathetic with the concept of natural products, but I have highly sensitive skin and have found that cleansers and moisturizers and cosmetics that are "cruelty free" or "natural" are the fastest path to an allergic reaction. My skin likes things made in a lab. I think the issue is largely botanicals and essential oils from spices.. for example, rose water is a sure way to give me hives. I also have large pores and facial eczema, so I need intense moisture that won't create break outs. So as an example, pure coconut oil is great for eczema but clogs pores fast. I am very fair and never tan and burn fast. I like 50spf reapplied every few hours. I can get away with 30 in winter. Every person's skin is different, so those who are sensitive to chemicals may love this, but after a number of painful mishaps, there is no way I am leaving my safe, commercial, animal tested products.
My favorite has been tallow butter. I now make my own. It's the least processed skin care possible. Lots of seed oils can be highly processed. I no longer eat any seed oils so I stopped using them for my skin as well (even though they are mostly toxic when heated). I also buy lots of products from 100% Pure. Glad their mascara works for you. It always ended up under my eyelids within an hour so I had to find another natural mascara that would stay on.
Yay! I just found your haircare videos, and when you mentioned you try to stick to all natural products I immediately wanted to know your skincare and makeup routine.
Hey Katherine, I really appreciate your videos and general input. I do want to point out that suggesting that our skin absorbs everything is not correct and invokes unnecessary fear. Some ingredients do end up in our blood in tiny amounts but most don't. This is exactly the purpose of our skin barrier. It's a barrier between the outside and our inside. It's great to use natural oils and other ingredients without thinking everything else will kill you.
Thank you for doing this video. I am so thrilled to have found 100% pure. I’ve been looking forever for anti aging skin care and makeup that has actual natural and healthy ingredients. Your video of natural hair care was extremely helpful also. There is not enough content creators who are actually living/recommending healthy and non toxic beauty regimes out there. Please do a video on your nightly skin care routine! Thank you!!
My skin care is very similar to yours. I haven't worn a full face of make up in years! I mostly go natural. Rarely do I use eye liner or lipstick. I dont wear foundation or powders. This has REALLY help me keep my skin looking young. I'll be forty-seven this year. Great video. 👍
Hello Katherine, before I watch the video I just thank and tell you how much I appreciate your videos on natural and historical hair care videos. You have made me fully believe that it is possible to use natural and homemade products to take care of your hair. Your videos feel like a class where I am guaranteed to learn something new, interesting and thought-provoking. I am excited to watch this one.
This last month I bought some of the things I need to start making my own skin moisturizer and makeup. I don't have everything I need yet but I want to go mostly natural because I am trying to avoid toxic exposure I mean as much as I can realistically. Thank you for sharing! Truly beautiful and inspiring, also your celeb twin is Jennifer Grey from Dirty Dancing.
I would absolutely love to try your friends face cream. I started down my all natural path from food to caring for my skin and hair just before I found your videos. Thank you. it's made my transition much easier.
Yes Katherine, I would love to get your friend's natural cream! Always looking for a better face routine that doesn't overly strip my more oily based skin that looks healthy but not greaseball.
Yes! I love to see this promoted and more people learning about it! I actually ended up making most of my own makeup as well. You'd be amazed what a little mica powder and coconut oil and arrowroot powder can do for homemade makeup! Keep informing the masses of a healthier lifestyle, I'm so proud of you sharing this lifestyle with SO MANY people!
As a Katherine Sewing RU-vid fan. I just thought I would leave you a message of how wonderful it is to be able to share and store receipes and patterns of your very own.. Great information on your website
Katherine thank you for sharing your products/routine it does help if you are both young and naturally beautiful. you do not need all that make-up. 100% pure is a great choice!
I absolutely love watching your videos, and it always makes me happy to see more and more people take the initiative to put on sunscreen. I do need to warn you about making your own sunscreen at home though. The zinc oxide is not giving you any form of protection, because it needs to specifically formulated to provide sun protection, which cannot be done at home.
Thank you! This is the exact type of skin care & 100% natural makeup routine that I've been looking for. I definitely want to give some of these products a try. I subbed for the natural hair care tutorials, but also enjoy skincare/makeup content too.
Wow! Yes, I would really like your girlfriend's facial cream. I really enjoyed learning about your 100% natural skincare routine and the massage as well. Plan on looking up many of the products you recommended! Great info!
I've stopped using store products, and have gone natural with my skincare. I drink water a lot as well, and my skin has cleared up a lot. My right cheek used to be very inflamed; a dark, patchy red, and it's now a soft pink.
I would love to try it . She could start by selling trial size at a decent price and if we liked it we would continue to order . I always watch your videos and you are so beautiful inside and out. Thank you for the time you give us .
Katherine, I just discovered you yesterday when YT recommended your hair oil recipe for hair growth. Will definitely be making it! I'm a senior & have been avoiding toxic ingredients since I discovered this health issue in 1998. How fortunate you discovered this early in your life! I also make a lot of my own personal care products with some help from some commercial peptide serums. This is just the 2nd video of yours I've watched. I discovered the Tanaka massage last April. Was there a gua sha tutorial that you could recommend? Thanks for your dedication to share your knowledge, beautiful lady. God Bless!❤Georgia
Just need to jump in here and say that no, everything we apply to our skin does NOT end up inside our bodies. Our skin is a barrier to the outside world, it is ment to keep thing out of out bodies. :P Skincare needs to be formulated very carefully to be able to penetrate the skin even a little bit down, and even then it doesn't enter our bloodstream or whatever you think ends up happening. Our skin: a very effective barrier.
So you are saying let's say the x brand foundation/concealer have aluminum hydroxide in it and when you use it it will not harm you as "your skin is a barrier to the outside world" 😶
I think you should read a lil more between the connection between our skin and inside body like nerves and organs. Actually for your own information the reason why exist contraceptive patches that are placed on the skin or creams for people in menopause that regulate certain hormones that are applied to the skin.
Thank you! I do not use any make up at 65. I keep it pretty simple for my routine. Haven’t done anything fancy with my hair, but so far I have been spreading out how often I wash my hair and using the Shea moisture reconstructive finishing elixir just a tiny bit on the ends of my hair every few days and then rubbing it through my hair. Just a couple drops. Also, being careful what I use to put my hair up with as well as change my part and how I put my hair up. This is a recent change. My hair has thinned out so much and a dermatologist just said it was genetic. I have noticed much less hair falling out and it is not tangling as much. It is shoulder length. I have bought a few natural shampoos and dilute them. Sulfite free. No conditioner with vinegar in water Rivne. Washing once a week and going to expand to every two weeks. Use a boar bristle brush just a little every few days.
Thank you for this advice! I'm going to try red raspberry seed oil as a serum and rosewater as a primer under it, which looks like a very good idea, plus, even though the butter you used looked nicer, I'm going to buy raw Shea butter as a top coat, to save money.
Love this brand! They also do a huge sale at least once a year where you can stock up on everything you need for crazy good prices! Literally more than half of some items.. The most exciting sale I've ever seen tbh 😂 I think it's around Black Friday/Christmas but keep an eye out for it 🤗 Lately I've just been using concealer, mascara on my eyelashes and brows, and the highlighter 🤗♥️♥️♥️
I loved esp the eye makeup and seriously that routine seems epic, You’re hair is really “out of this world stunning “ and I love how your inspiration is mostly renaissance.. All the best dear..🎂🙏
Please tell your friend we would love her natural skin cream. I have super sensitive skin, even to natural things, and not so natural things that are in some brands. All the ingredients in the video look good except maybe not the zinc oxide. I don’t know if the sunblock from beauty counter had other things in it I was reacting too or if it was the unnatural additives they used for extra ultra violet protection, which was very unnatural. I reacted badly to it. Most essential oils for face and most natural rouge and lipstick ingredients improve the health of my skin and lips a lot when I use it more. Canola oil and soy is something I am very sensitive too which is one reason why I had to quit using Bert’s Bee’s lipstick/balms and some other similar products. I can’t do canola oil. Most detergents are also very harsh to my skin. I love rose oil and star anise.
While it's possible you might be allergic to zinc oxide, I think it's more likely you were allergic to something else in the sunblock. Zinc oxide is fairly benign, and I say that as someone who also has a lot of allergies. (Including beeswax and shea butter, and coconut oil seems to irritate my skin a bit...so unfortunately most of the products she suggests are out for me.) Zinc oxide doesn't mix in creams really easily, which is why good sunblock is expensive-it takes work to get it right. I do mix some in lotions for everyday summer wear, but I live in a place where the sun never gets very strong; I wouldn't trust it against "real" sun.
@@PurelyCoincidental yes, I have none of the sensitivity/ allergies you mentioned having, so it’s probably fine. I’ll be careful when figuring it out. Good to know.👍
@@PurelyCoincidental a friend of mine told me that using plain heavy oils like coconut oil on your face isn’t good for any skin type out side of a face mask that’s similar to oil pulling and which you quickly wash off in order for it not to make you break out. She said her skin did not respond well to oils at all but it needed something in order for it to be manageable and presentable, and so she used her essential oils... rose, lavender, chamomile, frankincense, in a spray bottle and sprayed it on her hair and face. She recommended I do this instead of wearing oils or any face creams whatsoever. Washing the face with nothing but a little Unheated raw honey mixed in water was also recommended.
Lol, I was holding myself back from asking about this topic and hadn't had the chance to search through past videos to see if it was already addressed 😄 Thanks for sharing!
I am so glad I found your videos I have bought almost every single thing you recommended for hair care now make up just something else I can get excited about. Thank you for your beautiful videos. I enjoyed them so much and they’re so helpful. Thank you.💐
my best face wash/mask would be this -besan (chickpea flour) -turmeric -honey -raw milk -aloevera gel -rosewater/rosemary water I dunno I was having weird breakouts on my cheeks. the acne was recurring at the same place for over 4 months and the scar (still isnt) fading AT ALL. I mean, I've had huge zits before to the point I had to have to medically removed and walk around with bandages on my face. istg they didn't left the marks as dark and as stubborn as these breakouts I was having. using this face pack/mask as a nightly face wash completely stopped weird acne from recurring. skin just seems to be more 'balanced'. also its my seborrheic dermatitis friendly unlike most commercial facewashes which trigger it. I always swear by the dove soap bars but this time they really didn't help on this acne😢 and all other 'face washes' burns my seborrheic dermatitis, especially the salicylic acid face wash. and yes I do moisturise my face after using face washes. I am pretty sure that the moisturiser I used four months ago along with the salicylic acid face wash was the one that caused that stupid acne😪 because I've never had that before. at least not on past few years. I did had few breakouts when I was a middle schooler. I don't remember having it until recently I tried to do skincare, which fired back 💀 I was personally using salicylic acid face wash for the blackheads in my nose. and no they didn't reduce either.
I use the same natural hair spritz I created.for my hair on my face. My complexion is bright, clean, and wrinkle free. I don't use makeup at all and I believe thst is a relief for my skin.
Unfortunately 100% Pure - which used to be my favourite brand - has been using a lot of hydrogenated oil in their products for over a decade. It’s hugely upsetting. Would you eat toxic hydrogenated oil? The are very few truly clean organic makeup brands: Gressa Beauty, Zuii & 14e are a few I really like. Unfortunately I can’t find any good lip or eye pencils. Especially not in the colours I like.
That rose gold palette you use has hydrogenated avocado oil, which they try to hide by calling it ‘avocado butter’ - but that doesn’t exist - it’s just synthetically hydrogenated oil & I’ve confirmed that with their customer support as well as testing it myself (I’m a chemist). The eye pencil you use contains: Hydrogenated Jojoba Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Canola Oil, Sclerocarya Birrea Seed Oil, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Glyceryl Caprylate, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Tocopherol, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Ascorbyl Palmitate. May contain: Iron Oxides, Mica Hydrogenated oil as the very first ingredient, & again as the third, where they don’t even specify the exact source, which means it’s almost definitely something quite nasty (refined seed oil, I’d bet you). And you’ll see that the ingredients include toxic canola oil too. I strongly urge you to look into the toxicity of refined seed oils (which are typically GMO too) & hydrogenated oils/trans fat. Unfortunately, almost no one in natural beauty seems to care about these widely used nasty ingredients.
@@Whisperkissper Yes! I do plan to produce health & wellness content, hopefully this year. There are a number of important topics no one seems to be discussing, or not in enough depth & with enough gravity. I might have to make my own makeup too, like the Fitglow approach (everything has skin care properties, high percentage of active ingredients) but completely organic & nontoxic. And there’s such a lack of bright colours in truly natural beauty, too.
I’ve been throughly enjoying your channel! It’s such a nice change of pace and I find your medieval references interesting and a time period i reflect on and bring into my own life. I would love to know you secrets on balancing 5 children and life. I have three littles, 5 and under.
Just stumbled across your channel a few days ago and really enjoying .For now just gathering information and researching..small steps for me and very excited to watch your other videos .♥️
I've been obsessed with your hair care vids for about a month now and so glad you're putting this out. I was hoping you'd get to a skincare vid! Curious what you use for cleansing and removing makeup... Are you an oil cleansing girl?
Lovely video. But my incredibly reactive, oily, acne-prone face cant tolerate shea butter, coconut oil, or most oils in fact (even jojoba breaks me out). Would you have any recommendations for a much lighter skin regime for vert greasy, spot-prone skin? I do tolerate 100% pure organic rosewater and things like plant glycerin, pure aloe, distilled witch hazel, and colloidal oatmeal well! Your makeup is amazing. ❤
Beeeuuutifulll brows!!! 😘 once again you smashed it out the park..as usual!!! Keep doin you..doin your fantastic informative videos always top of the line and A-1 ❤❤
This is great. I've been on the natural hair/skin care journey for years and I'm always looking for safe products. I've especially been looking for new makeup. Your skin looks much better than mine so I'd need a foundation for sure.
Love this video! Thank you for sharing. And YES, Jessica, please start selling your face moisturizer! I have been looking for a clean option for so long that I like!!!!! :)
Hi, I love your videos! Do you have a specific cleanser/ soap you use to wash your face? And how often do you wash it? I’ve been struggling with very dry skin and I think it’s due to so much washing, I was wondering if you know of a different way to do it ☺️
I loved this video, it helped me a lot to understand more about the importance of using natural products and also where to find the right products. Thank you so much for sharing so much good information! keep doing it!
I enjoyed this video so much. You are beautiful inside and out. I cannot hardly wait until your night time routine. I will buy your friends hand crafted cream too. Dot
I've been really enjoying your historic her series of late especially as I'm trying to grow my shoulder length hair. I love this video so much have definitely saved it for future reference. I can't wait to try some of these products it's really inspiring! You mentioned you share a house with a number of people and you try to be quite minimal I would love to hear more about this part of your lifestyle and I'm really keen for more info on that side of things ! Thank you 🙏🥰
Wow 🥰 Thank you so much for this video ❤ I only came across your Chanel yesterday and it is so helpful and inspiring! I am interested in your friends cream , Bless you and your so pretty 😀 sending you love from Shropshire UK
Love your stuff. Been using your hair oil. Please watch up more on proper GuaSha techniques though 🌷You are being too rough and going in the wrong direction a often. Lymph fluid moves away from the extremities and towards the core. So, you would go Down your neck to your collar bone, and center of the face outwards and down in most places. Also, you need only a teeny tiny amount of pressure. Lymph fluid is 'above' your muscles, so you only move that. Your skin should only barely move, if at all, it more dents in and the GuaSha glides... like the way you soothingly rub someone on the back, or the pressure you use patting under your eye. Also, the GuaSha should be almost flat. During parts you want the fluid directed to your collar bone where there are a bunch of nodes. Start the GuaSha there to open the nodes and then work up towards your face bringing the fluid down, or out towards the edges. A great lymphatic for eye puff & health is to used your ring finger and starting at the inner corner follow the orbit out, up, across the brow towards the inner corner 10x and then end with following your cheekbones over your ears and down your neck. Too much pressure can lead to wrinkles in the long term, but you may see lessening short term because you are bringing blood to the surface and moving lymph. I took massage therapy & lymphatic drainage & have had to deal with lymphedema in my legs. With lymphatic massage, you barely use pressure... as much as if you put your thumb and forefinger together trying to roll a thread, max. I am not an expert on GuaSha, but I have been doing a ton of research lately & using my hands for lymphatic drainage (which is what GuaSha does)❤️ With Zinc, be aware that it hasn't been tested to see what level of protection you have. Thrive *might* meet your criteria, minus a few (3?) under 1% ingredients. I find weighing known skin cancer against a pea that has maybe 1% of something green but not edible in the size of a pea... the risk of cancer from insufficient sunscreen has more risk. That is me though.
I just have to say- my hair is your shade if not darker and my natural brows are LIGHTER than yours 😂. So you're not alone! I always thought it was so weird too lol
