There's actually a calibration procedure in functional tests for that cable but obviously you installed it close enough to where it was previously. We'll be doing a lot of those as it seems common so far. Like you said, crazy design but on the positive note it still has a manual shift valve and I like that part.

Code reader issue normally is fixed by running the update tool, both for the code app, and for the bootloader, plus also a good idea to delete all the older reads from the history, after you email them to yourself, and save on your computer. Will get more memory to work on, and make it run faster.

A "Code Reader" is basically a flint for a parts cannon.

Good video Kenny. Hey also check the engine mounts on this vehicle because I have worked on a few of these before where the shift cable kept on coming off because of engine movement.

They don't use a regular shifter cable for a reason. There are times when the vehicle needs to shift on its own, without any input from the driver. Parking assist, neutral safety, hill assist, etc... If there was a direct connection between the shifter and the trans, the vehicles wouldn't be able to shift. That's why it goes to an actuator under the hood that does the actual shifting. Its shift by wire. Also, you may get a bunch of odd codes that may not make sense. They were set when the shifter came off. Gear selection is monitored by several different systems. If the cable disconnects, the cable itself will still shift if you move the shifter inside the vehicle. For example, the transmission may be in reverse, but the shifter and trans cable may be in neutral or drive. A conflict like that will generate a bunch of codes,

Yes,I bought a $199 AUD Bosch scan tool which is adequate for my Holden VY SS Commodore which runs the 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine because it only needs to read the PCM, the SRS airbag,ABS & body control modules are still OBD1 which requires a separate OBD1 scan tool but the PCM is OBD2 (SAEJ1850 VPW), the scanner however doesn't have functions such as a misfire counter as other more expensive scan tools do. It will read an ABS fault in my sister in laws 2008-2009 Mitsubishi CJ Lancer from the PCM but it won't read the codes in the actual ABS module since it's a CAN OBD2 car. My brother had to buy a $300 AUD scan tool so it could read the codes from the ABS module which ended up being low voltage to the ABS pump motor so he got the module sent away to get refurbished. My dad took the module to a mechanic who sent it away to get refurbished & he suggested that they get rid of the car because they're a load of junk. It still has an ABS fault code which Mitsubishi won't fix up & it's a problem worldwide with the Lancers & the Outlanders !

IMHO, if you have a totally Electronic Transmission, they should have a rotary knob or push button. If you have the old school lever selection transmission ,then a Manual Tee selector should be used. I've seen more then few occasions where the motor driven shift system fails.

In the U.K. we call those engines Ecoboom. Not good things!

i believe there is a recall in the shifter bushing and if i'm correct there is a recall on the recall because the original fix was no good

2nd Gen Ford 2 .0 are known for coolant leaks. Happened after Ford started making these engines in house after split with Volvo, who made Gen 1 2.0 eco boost.

Another incident that wouldn't be in the shop if it wasn't for needless electronics. Why ? The electronic shift system has got to cost more to manufacture than a cable. Also I believe if someone plans to do their own repairs beyond basic maintenance should get a decent code reader. $100 to $200 wil get a pretty darn good one nowadays.

check for a bullitin the block might be sloted ford may have an engine replacement

The block is defective a head gasket won’t solve it needs the updated engine block from Ford

Cable retainer clip was Ford recall

I had that same warning / glitch on my same scanner not long ago...possible commen on the software or update.

Pretty soon, you're going to need your own IT specialist to maintain your tools. My business went to computers a couple decades ago, so now 99% of my work is IT work.

Are all Ecoboost engines prone to the head gasket issue or just the 2.0’s? I’ve been eyeballing the 3.5l’s for a while, but I’m leery.

A towed in timing job brought from another garage today, never hooked up the computer opened the hood oil everywhere, car fired right up went around the block no noise missing like a sob. Spark plug tubes full of oil from a clogged pcv.

The scanner never helped diagnosing that vehicle no computer can diagnosis a mechanical issue, you have to actually open your eye's and know how a system work's
