At the world pokemon championship, a huge move update was announced. This includes nerfing super strong moves like wing attack, counter, and steel wing. It also reduces the switch clock from 60 to 50 seconds.
Looking at the overrated and underrated pokemon of the Go Battle League Great League after Week 1.

I completely agree on the 50s timer. A couple times I got caught on a bad alignment on a toxic team and the timer helped me work around them way easier than last time.

Also keep in mind that tactic people use, wasting clock before throwing their next Pokémon. They're already guaranteed switch but they do it anyway, allowing you to adjust to whatever they throw.

Machamp (regular and shadow) hasn't felt threatening to me so far even when it has type advantage, compared to say, feraligator pressure. AND the real problem, ive got a rank 12 champ and a rank 40 shadow but I'm not gonna blow 2 elite tms just to test if it's good or not

I love being against Machamp, especially with Sucker Punch users. Lokix and Galarian Moltres both farm Machamp which is hilarious.

Run the matchups on pvpoke to check ... type in the ivs and simulate against the meta, takes like 1 min :)

@@mustardtigerbaaaaaam toe to toe with Azu? Foul play and superpower are resisted and Azu is extremely bulky. Malamar has to shield any move Azu throws. Best case is you use two shields to take out an Azu and then get swept by a shadow gator or clod. Not being facetious. How is it time to toe? Seems like a sim hero scenario to me.

I agree. There's so many overrated mons. My thoughts: overrated - Carbink, Machamp, Ariados, Gastrodon, Clefable, Malamar. I don't think Malamar is that good tbh. It's ok. The fact that using it means that you give up switch is kinda huge for the opponent as they align their mons. It feels like the meta is currently even smaller than last season cuz it's all Clodsire/Marowak, Azu/Feraligatr, Jumpluff/Mandibuzz. It'll probably extend next time with Ice and Grass types coming back from the dead to deal with it.

The meta is determined by making teams that each one of them claims that it is good for climbing!!! No mater what team some else comment on content creator video or chat… it always base on another! Remember that if the among of mons is small it is easier to build teams am title then meta/anti meta…

Very interesting video! Brilliant! Dewgong, Serperior and Lickilicky (but not in the same team) have been winning battles. Gengar has been a fun surprise with Sludge Bomb and Azumarill with Hydro Pump has also been a fun surprise. I have had good use of Body Slam for the normal-type Pokémon called Lickilicky to avoid e.g. an Icy Wind.. ..but the best has been playing before lunch on weekdays or worst has been playing during daytime on weekends (I won a lot more during the night). I’ve been running Machamp to counter those normal safe swaps. It can beat other good swaps too like feraligator and drapion if it gets a little ahead on energy. It gets to the cross chops so quick it can come in clutch

So I agree with you about Marowak being underrated..I am using it but as a non-shadow because I have a rank one. Still the regular does really well and feels tanky. I also think Drifblim is underrated as well.

I really like the fifty second timer. I’ve been doing a bunch of little cup and am not apprehensive at all about coming in with my bronzor without knowing if the opponent has a dark in the back. Bronzor can take a couple of charge moves so if a dark does come in, I can shield and usually swap back out after doing a bunch of chip or grabbing shields.

I like the switch clock, I used to almost never switch out of a bad lead. I think Mandibuzz is really good, at least against all of my teams. Serperior is a bit underrated imo, it's bulk helps it win matchups that other grass types would lose.

Dude- Alolan Raticate w/quick attack. He is almost entirely unchecked. You can hit everything for fast neutral damage. Bulky enough. A lot of fun, and I’m waiting for others to catch on.

@@eltipo223 Shadow alolan sandslash and Kanto Marrowak (non shadow). So far it seems more and more people are running their ground pokemon as leads so I may switch to A-sandslash lead

@@bobrown4609be careful cuz ppl also like to run talonflame leads alot as well. I personally use abomasnow and either switch to lickilicky for a talonflame and A-marowak lead/switch or ill switch to quagsire for any fighting or rock type lead/switches

The 50s timer is great. Makes the game feel a lot faster paced. Even if the meta feels more narrow, battles taking less time balances the enjoyment

Thanks for not over rating shadow awak without using it. I have definitely enjoyed using it. I used it in the past without the firespin buff and it was defent. Now it definitely plays well with good chip in bad matchups.

Gastrodon is high up on the rank solely because of Clodsire which is everywhere now. It beat Clodsire consistently unlike any other meta mons.

Something like Gastrodon feels overrated because people are expecting some of these pokemon to be in the battles and therefore have checks for them on their teams. So, maybe these pokemon do have coverage onto 90+% of the meta, but people are looking to have at least one anti-top-meta pokemon on their teams with coverage, so you still get slapped a fair number of times when running these pokemon.

@@danieliusblackius1130 it's good in an abc team, because you'll start with whatever you have and they'll go to safe.swap, and then gastrodon will generally annihilate that swap, and then either farm down the lead or they bring in their gastro counter and you can switch back to the A or your safe swap. There's definitely something to gastro being generally worth 1.5 pokemon

I noticed using Malamar increases the lag rate. Niantic cannot calculate psywave's damage output fast enough ☹️. Maybe it gets better in ultra league with bulkier pokemon in general?

Shadow ursaring is my mvp so far in the season. Its glassy and technical but super fun sweeper to use paired with the right bulk. covers all your basis versus the other normal types, pushes for shields well due to extremely fast pacing and unique movesets, and has great fast move pressure into its “hard counter“ of ghost types

I've been trying to make malamar work for four days. Very bad results despite how good it is - it doesn't hit quite hard enough to threatens shields but isn't bulky enough to take heavy hits. I'm going back to the drawing board next GL cycle because squid is going in the bench. I have run dewgong, shadow gator, whimsicott, shadow Aslash, shadow cress, and tentacruel, and cannot find a team amongst these (and the myriad of old mons I have) that works.

I am using Chargebug ( lead), Malamar, and Dusnparce! Most games I end up facing a gator lead if they stay fine if they switch is always to a Gustdn or cldsr… which malamar does well! If it is a flyer… Dunsparce have it! Lol

@@ssj2trunks103 My Malamar doesn't do well against any of those - clodsire takes the SE damage from Psywave, but the charge moves barely tickle it and Malamar has to shield. If they had a shadow gator, and I use two shields on clodsire... I'm cooked.

I will say that while malamar might have been initially underrated, I was stomping with it as lead and then ran 1-4 against into 2 fairy leads, an ABB fairy team, and 2 bug leads. Apparently it's the #1 ranked Pokemon for wins in pvpoke training analysis now, so folks are starting to prep for it. My dunsparce is rank 666 and I'm using it as safe swap, and it still feels nasty strong. 😈

In my experience I used dewgong to core break clod-mandibuzz and chestnaught to core break feraligatr-clodsire. Those two cores were everywhere if not clodsire was everywhere so running a mud slapper was very safe.

You should try guzzlord double poison. Guzzlord is so good in the lead against all the elemental and dark types that are often on the lead. I’m loving guzzlord so far but I’m running the old moveset because sludge bomb is just not a good move and I’m gonna get wrecked by fairies anyway so I don’t see the point of having coverage on it. It’s ABA weak to ice but the dragon tail + dragon claw damage is so oppressive you can beat most ice like dewgong in the 1 or 2 shields

@@ssj2trunks103 yeah I was lucky to get one when the ultra beasts were in research and the tasks weren’t too hard. The IVs aren’t good but it wasn’t too difficult to get if you were playing during the event.

I gotta say I disagree with your take on Clefable. I've been running it as my opener (with S-Feraligatr switch and Clodsire close) since the beginning of the season and doing pretty well with it. It's not threatening huge damage like Gatr & Clod, but it's fantastic for grabbing shields early or just steadily wearing away at your opponent's Pokemon. Plus it can still deal decent damage with Moonblast (plus the attack debuff chance doesn't hurt)

I’ve been running Gastro lead, Machamp safe swap and air slash mandibuzz in back. Biggest threat is fairies, so I have to fight any fairies with Gastro at all cost, but other than that it’s been winning a LOT. Annoying kind of core breakers are skarmory and abomasnow, but I’ve only faced 2 of each since the season began

I like shadow marowak over gastrodon. It gets to bone club faster than gastrodom gets to body slam, and bone club does much more damage in a positive matchup. It also gets rock slide. The only downside is that marowak isnt neutral to water/ice like gastrodon is. Shadow golurk is nice too

Why I like gastrodon better than marowak/golurk/donphan is mainly that its not weak to water and can take a hydro from gatr or greninja. The others are basically always getting one shot, if the opponent safe swaps a drapion for example its still uncomfortable for marowak cause they can spam aqua tails that do over 50%. Gastrodon being only weak to grass is its main selling point imo

You should go in one more time before this video to see how the community has adjusted to your initial experience. I can't use Malamar; the secret's out. People are ready for it and they bring out Jumpluff, Mandibuzz and your random Charm user. sh Machamp with Stone Edge is often my first switch. Speaking of sh Machamp he's gone from the worst I've ever seen to a mainstay. First and foremost, DON'T USE 2 ELITES ON HIM. If you already did in the weeks anticipating the switch put him to use. I hate baiting, I don't have the energy to waste. You don't need that extra time with him. I catch myself accidentally throwing CC because it charges almost completely while throwing Stone Edge. Believe me, give him one shield and he will take a Pokémon and their shields with it.
