I want to make this clear that I'm aware that making this video accomplishes nothing but when you feel so attached to a series that you really love, it's almost certain that theres no correct outcome to any of this and we have to face the consequences head on even if we're very vocal or not.

It is a pretty big fumble to not put trails in the west direct if it was in jp along with west trails fans being 2nd class citizens but I do understand wanting to promote phantom brave as that's an actual NIS game made by them and is a sequel to a PS2 game so it's been awhile (made by the disgaea guys) rather than trails which is something that the American branch is just localizing. I also remember hearing that NIS stuff specifically not doing well while the American side is doing fine with the localized stuff? That was awhile ago so I may not be remembering right. Still excited for day break, hope I can finish smt5v by then (probably will)

Man the day will never come if this series can never get elevated across a huge online marketing...

Technically the JP Direct showed off Crimson Sin (it was like 10 seconds, lol) but I do agree that Nisa could've had a small slot for Daybreak too. I think the market for Phantom Brave & Trails differs enough that it wouldn't be self-sabotage in a sense, but it is what it is. At least we got those character highlight trailers, that was more than I thought they'd do.

My internal sadness for the chance to show off with millions of viewers live watching the direct. It is what it is, small markets need way more attention than ever like this series.

To be fair. Nisa doesn't have anything to do with the Japan direct version since Falcom does that on their own and they likely put it there As for their Decision to feature the Phantom Brave sequel it was a game made by Nisa themselves so they obviously gonna prioritize their game over anything else they publish. its not to say they aren't doing anything since they literally are doing a massive marketing push in Anime Expo next month the same weekend as Daybreak's release featuring both YS 10 Nordics and Daybreak as well as bringing Falcom's CEO Kondo to the states again as a guest of honor.

Also side note the Japanese Direct Trails Ads was only like less than 10 seconds and it was featuring not Trails to Daybreak but Kuro no Keseki 2 Crimson SIn aka Daybreak 2 since its releasing in Japan on the switch next month.

I can't deny the marketing for Daybreak has been pretty bad but I can't blame NIS/NISA for choosing to prop up their own game seeing how they're having financial issues. At the end of the day NIS America isn't Falcom America and they publish lots of other games including their own parent company. Also Falcom has gotten plenty of attention from NISA we've gotten Crossbell, Reverie, Daybreak and Ys X recently. If anything they've ignored their parent company NIS way more seeing how their current game released this year Bar Stella Abyss has gotten no info about a localization and Labyrinth of Galleria a game by NIS released in 2020 didn't even release until like 2023 due to them most likely working on other things so there probably isn't even a bias against Falcom games or other titles they publish. At the end of the day it is what it is they're probably just trying to save money is that cheap of them? Yeah probably hopefully Daybreak marketing picks up near release but I doubt it.

If this was a Nihon Falcom situation, they would of gladly done it no problem since they did it for the JP Direct. Alas it’s NISA so we can only have endure the hardship struggle of frustration, hell I would of been if they showcased 5 seconds or 10 seconds but nothing at all.
@xNandoGx

yeah NISA has done little to promote Daybreak. Maybe since they are appearing at AX they want to concentrate on that.

one convention is not gonna change the fact that it was a big fumble, it's just gonna be treated as another JRPG booth and panel like any other game featured in AX

@@TheOffOne11037 I agree, but that’s their thinking. I don’t think they want to spend any more budget and they are content with what they have.

Yeah NISA really hasnt been marketing Trails on Nintendo. The last time I remember a Trails game in a direct was Cold Steel 3s Switch port. If I had a guess Switch is their lowest selling platform for Trails compared to PS and PC so they don't see the value of advertising there. Still I would say some marketing is better than none but who knows. Also the Daybreak in the JP direct was Daybreak 2s swirch port. Personally not a fan of NISA due to how badly they handle some games launches. Cold Steel 3 I heard had issues, Cold Steel 4 I saw had issues but they were patched by the time my copy arrived in the mail. Zero and Azure I personally had no issues with but I heard from others that their orders werent fulfilled. And then Reverie. Reveries launch was a total disaster. Nevermind they decided right before its launch to redo their entire store and order system, which screwed so many people, myself included. My special edition wasn't shipped until about 4 days after the game had launched and took another 3 days to arrive. That whole experience and frustration still sours my thoughts of Reverie. I dont like NISA, but without them we wouldnt have many games in the series. I hate to say it but I doubt any other localizer would pick the series up at this point. So unfortunately it seems we're stuck with NISA.

The fanbase scares newbies as much as nisa marketing sadly. Hope it does well.

You're so right especially the ones who religiously believe you have to start with sky. I started with cold steel 1 because I like the collection box in gamestop when it was on vita. I always say you can start with cold steel 1 or zero but I usually recommend cold steel 1

The fanbase is way worse lol, not even close. NISA is at least trying to get newcomers to try shiny and new Falcom games, and they seem to be doing better than XSEED did despite all the criticism they get from Falcom fans annually, unless I'm missing significant details regarding XSEED's advertising for Sky and CS1-2. Meanwhile, the fans will micro-manage how other gamers play video games and actively tell newcomers _not_ to play shiny and new Falcom games out of some twisted inward "righteousness", instead insisting that they play the fast travel-less turbo walking simulator, Trails in the Sky FC, and then its sequel, the 50%-longer fast travel-less turbo walking simulator, Trails in the Sky SC. Well, at least they have turbo, right? _facepalm_ I genuinely wonder whether fans who do that realize that the direct result is fewer people ever trying a Trails game, and if so, why they don't care. At the end of the day, for every 10 people who would have seen Daybreak on the direct and bought it in a vacuum, probably 3 of them would never even try a Trails game thanks to "purists" overcomplicating everything, and perhaps 6 or more would never play Daybreak in their lifetime thanks to playing in order. I never thought of it this way, but "purists" are indisputably and _directly_ hurting Falcom's sales! My bias against Sky FC and SC aside, whether they realize it or not, in their opinion, it is more important to play the lowest-priced Trails game than any other Trails game. A game for which, by Steam achievements, less than a third of players have finished chapter 1. As of writing this comment, not even 33% of accounts that _opened_ the game on Steam have the achievement for finishing the _first chapter_ of First Chapter! They must think that everyone who enjoys Sky FC will _definitely_ play every entry in the series eventually despite other video games out there competing for interest, and that every fan who does _not_ enjoy Sky FC will not be more interested in whatever game they told newcomers not to play at a given time-in this case, Daybreak. My apologies for the rant, but my patience for the hostile, disingenuous "purists" diminishes with every passing year.

I understand NISA probably only had the budget to put one game in the Direct, and the powers that be (aka the Japanese headquarters) demanded for it to be their self-developed title instead of Trails. So that's what happened. If it was NISA's own decision though without any influence from Japan (which I doubt but I will entertain the thought), it is indeed stupid. Phantom Brave does not release until next year. There will be other opportunities to show it in an event like this until then, be it a Nintendo Direct, a State of Play, TGA, what have you. I am 100% certain that unless they show this game again in a later Direct, nobody but the hardcore fanbase (that would have found out about it with or without a Direct showing anyways), people will forget about it by the time it releases. So this was a weird decision. Daybreak releases in 2 weeks, and adding to that I will go out on a limb and say Daybreak is gonna entice a lot more people than Phantom Brave does, on a purely visual basis. It's not Final Fantasy but it does look more modern than Phantom Brave. Which is not to say every game has to meet a certain graphicak standard to be good. I am a Trails fan, I would be a hypocrite if I thought that way 😂. But I do think many people tend to be more likely to take a first interest in a game if the graphic appeal to them. Following that train of thought, Daybreak would have been the more effective choice. Now, as far as the JP Direct goes, NIS had nothing to do with that. That was Falcom, and of course they are going to promote their own games, just like NIS Japan would prefer their American branch promotes their self-developed Japanese games instead of licensed ones. Just maybe next time make it run better on Switch maybe before you decide to show it cause...oof.😅

Phantom Brave is an old game series tbh, dont see people talk about the original game that came out in 2004. Not that I'm not pissed off over the fact that Kuro no Kiseki 1's advertisement. Just pointing out the idea that this game isnt the same degree of spotlight that say Disgaea has. Nisa should have handled things bit better there. At least like a tweet for upcoming games there that weren't shown off at the presentation ya know?

Had to stop watching partway when you called Phantom Brave the "wrong" game to market... Trails is not the center of the universe for NISA, nor should it be. NISA is not Falcom West, and as much as they've dropped the ball on marketing it to newcomers, the existing fanbase requires no assistance in knowing the game is coming out, so there's a certain baked in amount of guaranteed sales. Phantom Brave is an old classic IP that built NISA in the West (it was literally their second release after Disgaea 1 in the West). A sequel to that is big news for NIS fans, who would not have expected the announcement and thus actually needed the high profile setting of a Direct to tell them. Of course, the Trails community proceeds to complain about this when Phantom Braver is an NIS IP, meaning it realistically gets priority from NISA... Every sale of Phantom Brave is full money to them, every sale of Trails has to be shared with Falcom. It's possible to complain about Daybreak needing more marketing without trying to drag down Phantom Brave.

I have no problem if people are looking forward to Phantom Brave, if it made seem like I’m dragging the game down then I apologize for that. Just the main purpose I’m trying to give with this video is that they fumbled a big opportunity to market a game coming in less than a month while the JP Direct was able to showcase in their own timeslot. Meanwhile Nintendo clearly stated in their social media that it was gonna focus down on games coming on the 2nd half of 2024 with this being another 2025 announcement.
