My mum used to buy me cards once in a while. She’d hide them behind the visor in her car when she picked me up from school and it would fall in my lap when I lowered it. Lost her last year and I bought some cards as a reminder of those days (the scent of new cards throws me back to that time) and now I’ve been getting back into the game. I miss her so much ugh

The books a million I went to as a kid had a yu gi oh themed costume contest one time and I went as Pegasus. I wore red sweatpants, dug out an old halloween wig, used my mom's old red blazer that was too long for me and even made myself (with help from my amazing mother) an aluminium foil millennium eye. I'm sure I also had a really bad impression to go along with it all, yugi boy~ Needless to say my budget Pegasus won the like 12 packs and some kinda yugioh magazine or guidebook, which is the highlight of my storied yugioh career.

You were destined to be a Yugituber I got into Yugioh because of my brother and ofc watching the anime. I would always watch him duel in the library and eventually I started playing the game in middle school. I used a junk synchron deck and it would always be this back and forth between my friend Juan. He would always use different decks while I stuck with the same one but I was able to keep up with him and get some wins which would frustrate him sometimes. After middle school, I stopped playing because I couldn't find someone else to play with so the cards sat in storage. I got back into Yugioh in 2021 (last time I played was in 2016) because my roommate had cards and his homeboys also had cards. Occasionally, we would have multi-duels and started buying decks again.

I remember going to a books-a-million when i was younger too. Just a few people playing on the floor and one table at the corner of a store. I asked one of the older kids if he wanted to play, he must have been at least 19-20 and i was 12. I distinctly remember him having a fairy deck and his group of friends gathered around to watch us. All of them were heckling me for “playing bad” or using outdated cards, like Swords of Revealing Light. I remember it was a tough duel, but I managed to win the match against him and his friends actually acknowledged that I played well in the end. It was a really gratifying moment that I remember so vividly 20 years later.

I have to thank my friend/brother Andrew for handing me my first deck from the layer of darkness set back in 2016 when he and i went to camp. During the whole week that we stayed there i remember one of my staff members Jon North decided to bring his own Yu-Gi-Oh cards. He,Andrew, myself and another person whose name I can't think of all decided to have a mini Yu-Gi-Oh tournament at the cafeteria. That's when I learned how to build a deck and properly play the TCG. To this day with the exception of the Yu-Gi-Oh tag tournament that Andrew and i participated in back in 2018. That was the most fun i ever had playing a card game.

You should be proud of yourself Paul. You're doing a good job and you make a meaningful impact just by being a voice in the community, and it's entertaining too. My friend and I play Yu-Gi-Oh. He had a Blue Eyes White Dragon when we were 7, his favorite card for sure! I remember he almost lost it. Once after church his mom came in and gathered up all his cards. His mom took his Deck to the kitchen and put a few cards onto a skillet. His mom lit the burner and the cards went up in flames! 🔥His mom starts throwing handfuls of cards into the fire. 🔥 🔥 My friend yelled, so his mom looked away, and I took my friends Blue Eyes off the counter. He lost everything else, but he was happy to see the one card saved. Not a cheerful story but it shows the bond of duelists and shows some of cultures. Some stories are more positive, but this is about my friend; who had the heart of the cards. We ended up playing more, and getting new cards. At that age he would brag about his cards at school. Made sense to keep it safe.

Shonen Jump Manga got introduced me to Yugioh and the Dollar General i would always walk to is where i first saw LoB packs. I didn't know about structure decks until one of our trips to Wal-Mart and my mom pointed out that they sell cards too. I usually just went to the electronics section and then found her and we leave. I saw the starter decks and even though Yugi was badass in the manga i liked Dragons and so naturally i got Kaiba's deck. Now at 41 years old i think i got like 20+ Blue-eyes. I do miss how i used to feel seeing one and now it's like getting a free token when you see one😂

That kid yelled on purpose for you to get your card confiscated and the teacher was definitely lying about not having it. You should've called her bluff or BS out and if she kept saying she doesn't have it then ask who stole it as she took the card from you in front of the whole class. It's your personal property, you need to do what you can to get it back. Its against the rules for a teacher to keep a students personal property that they confiscate after hours.

I started my yu-gi-oh dueling "career" in my last year of middle school/ early high school. My first ever deck was the Link Strike Starter Deck, and my mother told me "you don't need those they're a waist of money, but my oldest sibling bought me it and I was so happy. Still have every single card from that deck to this day. Even bought the structure decks to go along with it and the Maze of Memories pack box, WHERE I PULLED FIREWALL DRAGON DARKFLUID NEO TEMPEST TERAHERTZ IN THE SECOND TO LAST PACK!!!!!!! So yeah, I'd say my 5 year anniversary (which was the 6th of this month) of being a duelist has been well spent.

Skip forward a bit that same year, I fell pray to the ice cream truck selling fake cards. Got all 3 god cards that were fake. I ended up getting the Blue Eyes promo card that it came with. A few weeks later I found out that we had got too many copies shipped to our store and Hastings had a policy to throw out any unsold stuff after a short amount of time. Damn i feel that LoB BEWD story. I have a similar story where i had one of those og Winged Dragon of Ra cards that couldnt be played in a duel, that i got from my Xbox copy of Yu-Gi-Oh Dawn of Destiny game it was one of the 3 premotional cards that came with the game and i was so hyped. I remembered that i had heard of the Egyptian god cards from some friends down the road, and i thought wow this is the coolest ever! So like the 6 year old i was, i brought it to school to show it off. I was showin it off to everyone that played and collected and doing this caught notice of this really nerdy 5th grader who had a binder that was absolutely packed with cool cards. He had pieces of Exodia, he had 3 blue eye, he had all kinds of shit. And this guy was arogant, he did believe that i could possibly have an Egyptian God card claiming that it was fake, and i was all like a kid with "nuh uh, its real!" And he decided he'd con me out of it, he said he'd take it and look at it to verify thqt it was real and get it back to me at the end of the day, and like the niave child i was i saw no problem with that. Well at the end of the school day the kid gets back to me and he doesnt have his binder on him just some imperial trap card that i cant remember at this point and he convinced me to trade my god card for that trap card which he insisted could beat the god cards anyway. So i ended up getting taken advantage of and losing my Egyptian God card for one of the lesser imperial trap cards of back in the day. I just remember it was like the emperor casting out some peasant was the art work.

I love hearing other people’s younger takes on Yugioh! I grew up when Yugioh was realeases and me and my friends drew the cards we wanted because nothing existed! I went to one of my friends houses and he was so excited to show me that he had REAL YuGiOh cards! I could not believe it and we split his deck and played with 20 cards each for hours! Once Yugioh got more popular we were all playing on the playground! My friend had an older brother a few years older and when we both went to the same secondary school, on the first day, they came up to me and was like “did you bring your deck” I so excitedly said YES, and they threw me into a corner and said “bin them, never bring them back”. The next day, the older years we’re throwing weight and grabbing younger kids, emptying pockets and a poor kid had Yugioh cards and he was bullied so heavily along with any other kid that had Pokémon, Digimon Yugioh etc. it was a sad but thankful moment when I realised I’d crossed a border, and even more sad when some kids embraced it and just set up groups to play and have fun, but I never felt I could because I was so scared or being shamed. I will always respect everyone that plays Yugioh freely, when I always spent my teenage years playing in secret, begging others not to tell my friends I was playing! I was a coward to “what was cool”

I didn't quite understand how to play so I kept watching the anime on TV to get the idea of it. By the time I was 12 I taught myself how to play casual level YGO. So I've been playing the game roughly for like 20 years now. Even tho my parents were divorced my dad also bought me packs and stuff. So I owe it to both of my parents as well. Between 2004-2006 me and my brother collected cards, though we still didn't know how to play the game. My deck was a hodge-podge of whatever commons I got and the cards from the Pyramid of Light movie pack. It wasn't until late 2006 after the release of Cyberdark Impact that me and my brother learned how to play the game. I got a bunch of packs of Cyberdark Impact and The Lost Millennium for my birthday and Christmas and my deck got a big upgrade and had Ancient Gears, VWXYZ, and the Inpachi cards in it.

When I was a kid, there just wasn't much yugioh stuff around. I remember we had gotten decks (of fake cards, which I don't think we knew at the time) and I had left mine somewhere and lost it. I remember my mom taking me around everywhere asking about it to see if anybody had seen it, and later when we had given up taking me around to all these different stores to see if any of them had cards, but no luck. It wasn't until way later and coming to the states that I finally saw (real) cards for sale, and I ended up getting my first start with the spellcaster structure deck. I remember loving the dark eradicator warlock and I still have it to this day. We didn't have much money or really an allowance of any kind, but my mom would still sometimes just buy us a pack or two at walmart, and I would sometimes use money I had saved up from birthdays and holidays to get a structure deck too. I remember feeling so cool when I had gotten 3 of the kaiba decks from gamestop and owned 3 copies of a blue eyes white dragon. My mom also supported me going around looking for supplies to make a binder with card sleeves to organize all of them instead of having a card shoebox like my brother, and although I upgraded to newer binders I still have some of the same sheets inside them to this day

So my parents took notice that I liked to play Yugioh and I'd spend entire afternoons reading my cards and making new decks. Well they started buying me packs of cards randomly. Come to find out now that I'm an adult they admitted to buying the cards to give me something I enjoyed reading. For the longest time, I used to think the Egyptian God Cards were banned and too powerful for IRL Yugioh. I also only ever saw fake ones around the playground which to my mind meant it must be true that the cards don't actually exist IRL. I also have a similar water park story! I went with friends and families of friends to a water park place, and we brought our cards everywhere to play while we're all hanging out. Somehow, my parents put my cards in a bag before we left, but it was the bag where we put our wet clothes. My entire collection I had spent 2 years collecting and building was completely destroyed. There is one funny story that a lot of brazilian old school players will recall. Around 2003 a very famous TV show hoster (Gilberto Barros) called the yugioh cards “demon cards” and burned them on live TV. A lot of really religious moms started doing the same to the cards their kids own. I am really thankfull that my mom is not much religious, because I lived in a small town during that time and I remember that from 15-20 kids that used to play just me and one more still had that cards after that day

If that was me as a kid I would have either stolen it back or destroyed the classroom in the process... kid me was an unhinged little demon child

It's crazy that schools don't let cards or games my school allowed any game as long as it was pg and there was no stealing or fighting

When I was a kid I was in this after school 2nd language program. At the end of the year we had a party and I traded this kid my moon cake for the strongest monster I’d ever seen - 3500 attack. It was dark so I couldn’t read the effect but when I got home I could finally see the name - Ultimate Obedient Fiend

How i startd yugioh was a random kid in grade 1 giving me a card. I then watched Yu-Gi-Oh zexal bc Yu-Gi-Oh seemed interesting. I had already been collecting pokemon cards and soon after i got a monarch starter deck.

Video idea/challenge TeamAPS should take on a weird challenge where they try to make a fun carpool for a custom format (that all that is different is the card pool) using only a 250 card card pool. 🤔🤔 sounds like fun chaos

I remember as a kid my dad was 100% behind me on whatever nerdy hobby I'd actually show interest in, but my mom was very heavily against whatever nerdy hobby I was showing interest in, and she wanted me to be a "normal" kid, it was really rough for me Especially because I live deep in the countryside, so there weren't any Yugioh tournaments for me to enter even back in the day

Great video which was greatly appreciated! Stellar entertainment this humble wednesday evening (Central European Time) Also, shame on your teacher for not only confiscating your Blue-Eyes but rather nonchalantly depriving you of your at the time (probably) most prized cardpossession! Keep up the good work!

Started in 5th grade at lunch. My friends had them and were playing, which made me jealous lol. I begged my mom and she took my brother and I to Toys R' Us, where we got both Yugi and Kaiba starter decks each. I also had a fake Obelisk at one point and forced my friends to let me use it 🤣

That sucks about losing that Blue-Eyes, my condolences. I had a similar story when I was a kid but fortunately (for both me and the teacher) they let me just put them away in my bag and not take them.... Probably because at 12 I was already 6ft and had 30lbs on my teacher and grabbed their wrist when they went to grab them....

I got the LOB BEWD when I was a kid but my neighbor kept it. Long story short I gave him money to go to 711 for a booster pack. He opened it, and out of all cards that it could have been, it was BEWD. He kept it and last time I gave him money to buy a booster pack at 711.

I remember when my older sister and I got the Insect Queen Tin and each of us got some packs of it. We used rubber bands to put our decks to our wrists in a way to pretend drawing from a duel disk. Also, we thought, you had to put Equip Spells underneath the monstery like at Xyz monsters nowadays^^ She always defeated me back then with her Blue-Eyes White Dragon. I remember getting a random card, Dragon Manipulator and I put it in my deck just because of that Blue-Eyes^^ And later, I also got Emes the Infinity, letting me finally defeat Blue-Eyes, just to have it destroyed by Dark Hole^^
