Thanks for your parent's reactions. Deku's mom made the costume and like any kid who knows their parent put effort into the costume. He wore it. But the costume will change throughout the series. Just keep listening to the dub. I don't care what haters say.
I feel like because this is dub a lot of things are left unexplained but I understand it being easier to hear in English. As an explanation though, 'Deku' is a play on the way Izuku's name is written in Japanese. The Kanji for his name can be read as Deku which usually means a useless person, or someone that isn't talented in any way. in the sub, Uraraka says deku sounds like the expression 'you can do it' in japense, and says that it should mean Deku is a positive name and not a negative one, as it means Izuku can do anything. This is just a vague and overall explanation but I hope it helps explain some of the dialogue a bit more and why it's even considered an insult, since 'Deku' is not an english word.

Watch Dororo it's got a lot of moments that will tear you up like when Hyakkimaru gets his hearing back and meets the Mio. I wasn't expecting that arc it was devastating
