I enjoy all the info on tackle, bait etc, so with the lock-down still present, is it possible you could give us a demonstration on the terminal tackle you use for shark fishing, that is rod, reel and very important, the line you use and tapering down up until the end trace. I recently stumbled onto your channel while searching how to cure red bait and have since systematically been going through the videos. Thanks for the informative and passionate videos that are much enjoyed and appreciated. I grew up fishing for shad and edibles at Herold’s Bay near George. For the last 20 odd years I have been flyfishing, mainly in the salt, but have recently retired to Plettenberg Bay and am ready to again embrace other fishing disciplines. I have some good estuarine tackle, but not really any rock and surf tackle. I do have a 8’ Aerocast, paired with a Shimano Stella 5000 with 30 lb braid, that I used for yellow tail off Cape Point. I might be able to use for spinning off the beach, but I tried the rod for beach bait fishing the other day and it is too short and light to get good distance. I am looking for a rock and surf rod to catch, and release, edibles (galjoen, shad, kob, white steenbras, white mussel cracker) and would appreciate your views as to whether to go for the Assassin Blue Fish Special 13(?) foot or the Assassin Horizon Zero medium ( or m/h)? Will I be able to use the Shimano Stella 500 xg with the rod, or do you recommend I get a 10 000? If so, will you recommend a normal Stella or a Power Gear? Thanks a lot. Stywe lyne!

Hi Xander. EK het die Bluefish Special gekoop in 14' lengte. Ek moet se dit is n fantastiese stok. Ek gebruik n DAIWA 4500H Koffiemeule op hom met 30lb braid en 80lb braid casting leader. Ek gooi n 5Oz sinker laat hy klein word as dit moet. Dis regtig n baie veelsydige stok. Alles te danke aan jou video!

Thank you Xander for this very very usefull info. I am looking to upgrade and was indeed looking into the EVO Heavy or the Beachmaster for a good all rounder so to speak for a recreational fisherman. You have made up my mind for the EVO Heavy. I do have other Kingfisher rods spinning that I use for smaller edibles like galjoen or romans. Awesome to get such good info from your youtube channel. Stefan at Stil fishing will see me this week to buy a Evo. With what medium affordable reel will you compare with this rod. I was looking into the PENN Slammer iii in 8500 or the PENN Spin Fisher in 7500. Would you recommend going bigger to a 10000 series?

Awesome video Bru been watching from the time your channel started and I can say every single one is great. Wanted to find out with your Evo heavy and the Winn grip, after a wade and the rod is wet do you have trouble fighting a fish as your hand keeps slipping? Or is not much of a problem for you?

I thought I had a few rods and reels. Until I saw you vid. Depending on your casting style. The 14ft rod might be better than the 15ft. That 1ft difference in length is a lot when casting. Your hight and build will determine what rod length you want. I know I spend years on the tournament court. I am not in the ranks of the big casters. I have rods ranging from 13ft 3in to 15ft. I struggle with the 15ft.it is too long for me. My 13ft10in rods are spot on. You have to try the rods before buying.

Hi there, I jusy wanted to find out and maybe get some advice after watching this video as I'm still new to your channel and playing catch up, I have 2 rods one is the Assassin rockhopper 10ft which I use with the Daiwa ninja 4000 and is good for smaller edible fishing, then I have the assassin surf 12ft and Shimano alivio 6000 reel, and have caught some good bronze bream and kob with, the problem is I really battle with bigger fish. This Alivio was bought on a budget so I wanted to find out where I could get a stronger reel probably a second hand or recommend a budget reel that's stronger. Thanks

Hi Zander. Do you have any experience on the Assassin Beachmaster 13' Light 3-5oz. I would love to know if i can safely cast this rod with 5oz sinker, 30lb braid and a kob chokka bait (with floatation like in one of your vids, size 4/0 or 5/0 circle on dangle). Will be using it on sandy beach for 80-90cm kob only with the odd gully shark taking the bait sometimes as well. I already own a 5-7 oz Assassin Equinox but feel its unnecessary too heavy for this application. I do not have to cast more than 80 to 100m at my favourite spots. Cant afford a Horizon. Please advise. Thanks again for your continued good advise.

Hi Xander Thank you for the great video on your tackle. I am keen to buy the Evo heavy. Firstly is it 14 or 15 ft? I prefer 15ft as I’m 6ft tall.Secondly and more importantly to me, can i use a multiplier reel on it for now, as i cannot effort the shimano 8000 at the moment. Will i damage it if i use a multiplier? Does this rod only have a spine n one side? I want to buy the EVO Heavy and save until i can afford the 8000. Please advise. Regards Subash

I don't see any conventional reels? They would have a lot more line. I use a conventional reel and can heave out there pretty good.

Hi Xander. Thanx for all the vids and info. I have a question for you and would really appreciate your advice. The cob where i live are generally small (70 to 100cm) and i can handle them easily with my Bluefish 13'. However I also pick up a lot of gully sharks when i target these cob. So i would like to go up a bit in rod power and cast at least 5oz sinkers with about a 2oz sardine bait. I do not want to go to heavy on the rod. Would you have any knowledge on the MH Assassin Equinox and if i can use it for the purpose as above. Small cob but also large gully sharks and a 2oz bait. I do need to cast mu maximum distance of about 120m. Unfortunately i cannof afford the Horizon MH Blu and are therefore asking about the Equinox or something else in that price range that you can recommend. Your advice will be highly appreciated. 5 oz sinker with 2oz bait. 14'. Thank you.

Die twee stokke wat ek gebruik om al my bases te cover is die Evo MH en die Horizon XXH, natuurlik ook gepair met my Shimano's, ongelukkig nog net die Spheros's maar een van die dae upgrade na die Gosa's ;) Weet nie of ek ooit die Stella's gaan koop nie, sal maar moet sien. Een ding waaraan jy geraak het is League Fishing, dalk sal dit 'n goeie video wees om League Fishing 101 te maak, jy hoef nie te veel geheime weg te gee nie, maar dalk goeie tips enso. Kyk nog al die pad jou videos en het nog nie een gemis nie, hulle is great! Well done!!

My Stella 14000 xg is the most useless reel I ever bought. 5000 xg is great reel. Saltiga 10000 pg is the most versatile reel I’ve ever used. Cob I stay with a 15kg rood with a 5000 reel
