A new video we just shot! Many people seem to find the concept and use of hackamores or bosals complicated, even confusing. I tried to shed some light on the subject of what is important in a hackamore in my opinion, which makes them work for the way I use them.
I would like to thank my son-in-law Daniël Bidmon for his advice and help in starting up this RU-vid channel. If you need help with your social media or e-commerce, you can reach him at www.ecomhouse.com or his RU-vid channel Daniël Bidmon

Historically, in Mexico, jáquima (from where the word hackamore originated), referred to the headstall and the bozal (noseband) together. In Spanish, jáquima just means halter, so the headstall attached to the bozal becomes a halter or bridle. Bozalillo, which is a thinner bozal, is used after the horse has been fully trained with the jáquima as decoration and backup bridle.

yessir, that's how I use the terminology, but I hear in some regions other terminology seems to be used

What is your recommended cut off of Latigo leather for Braiding?

I myself don't braid a lot with latigo, but when I do, I like to cut strings for braiding out of the hide lengthwhise 'till I almost reach the stretchy belly part. They are too weak to pull on for the braiding. In the past I made a set of reins in latigo, but didn't like the feel of 'em. I only use latigo for bosal bodies, over a twisted rawhide core. Waxing the strings helps a lot. Closer to the belly part of a latigo hide I cut for hangers and such. Nowadays if I need a leather body for say a bosal, reins and have you, I only use kangaroo
