The didn’t have enough dragons for every rider. It wasn’t a less rider problem it was a less dragon problem the number of graduates kept getting smaller cause the number of dragons did not the number of people volunteering
@@kiidemila2419 even more reason to protect the riders instead of killing them. Screen them through training and trials, not by killing them because they don't have proper armors or saddles.
don’t forget how she has to wear HER OWN armor that her sister made for her with dragon scales bc the military just doesn’t wanna make this armor that would save their soldiers lives ✨
Yes but also it seems mira had to go through a lot of trouble to not only pluck all the scales but to also shrink them with a specific signet- and then hand weeve it all.
@@heyo8228 we see with that one teacher whose signet is holograms that they're willing to pull riders from the field to specialize if they have a useful enough signet. The shrink guy should just be sitting in a room somewhere shrinking scales all day. All the cadets should be collecting dragon scales as one of their duties
@@maddiz_lr8459 it’s the “a court of thorns and roses” series by Sarah J Mass I really think it’s great but if fantasy and smut are not your things you might not enjoy it
To be fair to Violet, she was meant to be a Scribe, she never wanted to be a Rider in the first place, so it makes sense that she isn't prepared for killing. Everything else though, absolutely
Yep, also riders have no say in putting saddles on their dragons. Tairn is the exception. Dragons are prideful creatures who deem their riders unworthy if they can't keep their seat. This is stressed so much. Violet also has EDS and is much physically weaker, the saddle was made out of necessity for her own accommodation. The other riders can keep their seat and have no need for it. Also seems to be confusion with infantry and the riders quadrant. Very few go to the riders quadrant, most go to the infantry.
@@c4veman no she's just a generic DND agility based assassin-like character based on the perfect fantasized self of the writer. It's always "I don't have strength but I'm fast and I'm good with dagger" blah blah blah. @@shepherdlavellen3301 She didn’t *want* to be a Rider, the only tests done for any Quadrant are intelligence ones, which she passed with ease as her intelligence is what makes her a formidable opponent, and her mother was the one who made her go into the Riders. If she was a six foot six hunk of meat and muscle she’d still fit into a fighter class, or if she was especially holy and regligous as many people are, she could be a Paladin. no fr i feel like the author was trying to come up with a cute nickname but when he gave it to her it felt wrong and like he didn’t even know her but honestly yeah the nickname was a lil lame
I think its kinda of shitty writing. Like, yes, most people would be rightfully against killing another, but when people or countries/kingdoms are at war they usually do their best to dehumanize their enemy so their soldiers will be willing to “eliminate” what they essentially view as monsters. The book tells as very little or the war considering its some what of an end goal.
and she just had to be a dragon rider even though she knew she was weak and could die, and she didn't wanna do it but she just had to cause she's a "strong independent woman", seriously it's just bad writing and inconsistency.
@@shepherdlavellen3301the "I didn't want to be here, I need to get out of here" "no, don't do literally anything to get me out of here, how dare you imply I shouldn't be here" whiplash is so wild.
Loved the book, but my peeves were the modern references in a non-tech book. There is a part in the book where Violet says/thinks they "must have got their wires crossed." At no other point do they talk about wires, so that phrase just doesn't belong. Also...the riders falling off the dragons, who were totally okay with it...yeah. You're going to go through this whole rigorous process of training candidates and eliminating the weak, you're going to choose AND BOND with the person, and then you're just going to let them fall off before they know how to ride? I couldn't buy into that.
@wreng3213 Yes, but the two characters in the book were talking about a perceived miscommunication. The context of "must have gotten their wires crossed" does not fit with the non-tech world-building. It was out of place and too modern of a phrase.
As someone who just finished the book today, I'm glad I'm not the only one who was annoyed by how damn often Violet mentions how hot Xaden is or how badly she wants to sleep with him. Like okay I get it, he's super hot and you're very sexually attracted to him, I don't have to be reminded almost every time he appears on the page.
“the High Lord of the Night Court is here” For real though! The fact that they both had ominous tattoos, could summon shadows, had dark hair, and could read minds?
I feel like violet not wanting to kill people only works bc she was forced to join the riders quadrant, like home girl spent her whole life wanting to be a librarian
The way she's just cracking up while complaining about this book is literally me 😂 I'll be like "oh my god, I really liked this!" And the two days later be like, "you might want to sit down. I have some thoughts."
Also the fact that as sood as xaden appears at anytime all she does is talk and think about xaden. Her entire personality becomes him until he leaves 😭
@@raveybabey_ It's called over doing your character quirk, there's literal fight scenes where people are dying and Violet is still pausing to comment on how hot this guy is
Hahahaha I didn’t even think of the saddle thing at all. Even after she got hers I didn’t think “oh others should do this too”. Lmaoo 😅 But I do remember them saying it restricts movement in case they need to suddenly jump off 🤷🏻♀️
@@mtstand the fact that Andarna was perfectly content to be carried around by tairn in fourth wing like a little puppy while tairn was fine with doing it. So she had 2 “special” dragons making accommodations for her while other people are just falling off.😂
Because it’s the dragons choice not peoples choice lol and it describes in the book that dragons think riders who can’t keep a seat aren’t a worthy rider but it shows in the book that Tairn accommodates to Violet and her needs which is unusual for a dragon, but Tairn cares more about her mind then her physical abilities but most other dragons care about the aggressiveness and strength hence not going to adapt to suit their rider
Except the dragons need the humans to help protect the Vale, so killing off riders willy nilly is still really short sighted and doesn't make any sense.
That's interesting. I never thought of the lack of saddles as weird because they have a built in saddle and the point is to be strong enough to hold on, and free to dismount quickly qnd fight. Her saddle is an accomodation to her disability
The language in this book is straight out of a Kardashian episode. Great story but it feels like a high school student wrote the dialogue. It is so distracting.
To be fair, Mira has ZERO issues killing people and same goes for most of the other women, its just Violet that gets hung up on it, probably because she was raised as a scribe unlike Mira
its almost like when she read something she was annoyed about she didn't even think about it beyond that. Dragons previously wouldn't let saddles be put on them....Also, literally she was FORCED into the war college
For me, the saddle thing feels like kind of a dragon/eugenics type thing? 😅 basically the dragons and the school (being shitty as they are) think that if you don’t have the skill or strength to fly bare back, you don’t deserve to be a rider. Which really spoke to me as someone with Violet’s condition
I'm so conflicted about this book. I flew through it but at the same time it was so full of cliches and also very unoriginal in many ways. I think it's a really enjoyable while reading but when you think about it afterwards there's just a lot of "meh" moments and quite a few things that are too similar to other books.
YES The saddle. If violet gets a saddle why can't they all get saddles. There is no way anyone would be able to hold on during the battle moves the dragons make! lol
I'm reading it right now. And I've lost count of how many times I've shouted "Oh come on!!!" When she described dragon riders, i kept thinking, this is just Dauntless in Divergent! And allowing the children of rebels executed for treason for a failed coup, now be allowed to bond with Dragons? Yeah, because we should let the children of "traitors" have access to our most powerful weapons. That makes sense. And the book's theme distresses me. Violet didnt want to be a dragon rider. Was forced by her mom. Became bonded with not 1, but 2 dragons... good lord. So her mom was right to ignore her wishes and push her into a career path that puts her life at risk, because it allows her to dress in black?! OH COME ON!!!
You do know that they thought that they would all die right? And even if they did survive, they would still have to fight in a war, they would probably all die anyway.
@@adrianpillai6645Scribes are one of THE most important in their society. Of course they aren’t putting rebels children anywhere near the ability to rewrite history
This book it’s literally (don’t even have words) the last death of part one broke me more than anything else I’m still mourning over a fictional character 💔😭!
I personally love the book and I especially love the part that she didn't want to kill people and the reason why I love that part because if you truly think about people who go to war and most of them don't want to kill people which is why they have PTSD so at least in this book is being put out there and show that not everybody who goes to war wants to be a killer
😂😂😂 as much as I love 4wing everything in this video is accurate and hilarious! The saddle thing really had me and my coworker (both of us are neurospicy) reeling at the idea that no one else thought a saddle was a great idea 😂😂😂😂
The girl terrified of killing and once she finally kills does the love interest always has to comfort her, it always gets on my nerves, but fourth wing is so good that i gof passed it quickly
I’m begging you all, as a community, can we get rid of the trend where the shady love interest calls the FMC a “violent little thing,” a “vicious little thing,” a “dangerous little thing,” or any “[vaguely emo sounding] little thing”??? Please?? Can we make that the next “she released the breath she didn’t know she had been holding?” I CANT DO IT ANYMORE
Yes best part of this video is when you said “ when she introduced Dian I was like Gale Hawthorne is here” I totally agree and could not stop laughing and don’t see Dian the same anymore
there may be some elements of ridiculousness in the book but who gets the last laugh? Rebecca Yarros does because the books are making millions of dollars per month right now
Yall when she said “The high lord of the night court is here”, I died ✋🏼💀😭😂 What she mean by this sentence is that in ACOTAR (also a book series) the ml can wield shadow like Xaden. Also his name is RHYSAND✨
The only reason Violet did not want to take a life is because she was trained for the scribe quadrant and not the rider’s quadrant. Her reluctance to take a life is what makes it so realistic.
It’s not inventing a saddle it’s most dragons being of the mindset that if they can’t keep their seat then they aren’t worthy. Xaden didn’t invent anything, he knew that Tairn would prefer violet being safe because he didn’t choose her for her physical strength but her intelligence
Uhhh with the taking a life part, violet was meant to be a scribe, scribes record and analyse battles not actually be in them, scribes are seen as weak in the book so it would make sense violet was a bit upset, the book also says she wasn’t sad she killed him she was sad that it changed her.
"I don't wanna take a life", I mean to be fair, Violet never wanted to be a rider in the first place. She wanted to be a scribe. She kinda just grew into being a rider, more or less, still may have a scribe mentality though
Okay, let me defend her..... Xaden calling her violence was kinda cute in the beginning but yeah at times it was a too much...BUT it makes sense bcz xaden keeps saying to violet that " You are going to be the death of me " and in the last chapter when he makes his confession about how he was not sure when or how he fell for violet makes it clear that she basically wrecked all his defenses Secondly riders falling of the back of dragons was the whole point of selecting the best soilders... since a dragons life depend on his riders life , the dragons really have to choose the fittest... It is literally stated in the book that dragons think the riders can't stay on dragons back are not worth bonding with....this is why they don't use a saddle And Violet fell that many times bcz she was never trained to be a rider and she lacked physical strength NOT TO MENTION that her dragon was giving her a hard time on purpose
same... like WHY are you letting people kill your dragon riders for shits and giggles... you already dont have enough soldiers.... let them live for christ sake... and let the other be ground soldiers.
Apparently, it took humans thousands of years to invent the saddle. But if they have it for horses or something then applying one to a dragon should be obvious.
When it comes to her not wanting to kill people: it's not a pet peeve of mine, cause you have to remember she NEVER WANTED to be a rider and she was FORCED to become one thanks to her mom - she then worked with her situation and is learning to adapt
I thought about that too but then I thought deeper and I realized that Violet's dragon protects her because she's going to be a great warrior one day and the dragon know it and maybe bcoz of this he wore the saddle and we all know the rest of the dragon hate human so yeah 😅
What I didn't like was how everytime Xaden and Violet kept getting interrupted whenever they were "doing it" HAHA LIKE PLS LET THEM FINISH THEIR ROUNDS PLEASE!
Does no one remember that she didn’t want to go to War college? She literally spent her life training to be a scribe in a library, where it’s silent, and that her mother forced her into that way of life?!??
She had every opportunity to go to the scribe quadrant, even with a plan to go & not get kicked back to the riders quadrant. But she stayed. I think the person who posted this video has a valid point.
And then also the part of them killing the the rider it's pretty much what they do in war the only difference is in military human war is that they destroy the mentally we're here they try to build them up mentally and physically and if they're not capable then they just let them die which isn't the best but being as though this is a fantasy book I understand it
I think they probably did think of saddles, but the dragons werent willing to wear them. The way the dragons are described it sounds like Tairn was being really accommodating compared to other dragons, which i guess would just consider you too weak if you couldnt stay on.
It’s not that saddles arnt invented it’s that the dragons believe if u can’t stay on u don’t deserve to be on. Violets dragon just made an exception for her 😊
Until Xaden “ invented” the saddle I honestly thought all the riders used saddles. So I was mad a violet for not staying on the freaking thing. And when he showed her the saddle I was like “ but don’t they all ready use them?”
