By now, you guys know that I’m super passionate about sharing food with others. It’s the best way to get to know someone! One of my favorite cuisines to share with people is Indian food. It’s so diverse and complex and introducing people to it is always a lot of fun. Come with me as my photographer eats Indian food for the very first time!
I’ve been working with my boy Jesus a lot lately, but when I learned that he’d never tried Indian food, I knew we had to change that! So I took him to Dhaba Indian Kitchen, the newest Indian restaurant in my hometown of Miami, so he could finally see what he’s been missing!

The restaurant is named after dhabas, which are roadside restaurants in India that cater to travelers and truck drivers, and sell a mix of different cuisines from around the country. Inside, we met Ranjit and saw the sleek, chic decor.
After meeting Sagar in the kitchen, we enjoyed a mango lassi, which is a mango-flavored yogurt drink that’s extremely popular in India. Then, in the kitchen, he prepared some lasooni gobi, which is crispy cauliflower sautéed in a garlic sauce, along with some gravy.
They also prepared some chole for the samosa chaat and a lot more! Back at our table, we had six different dishes, including samosa chaat, chicken lollipops, lasooni gobi, chicken biryani, chilli paneer masala, and shrimp Madrass curry. The only thing we were missing was some naan!
We started with the samosa chaat, which is crunchy, savory, sweet from the tamarind chutney, and smooth from the potatoes. The chunky chickpeas and the samosa pieces add some nice texture!
Next was the lasooni gobi, which was on another level. It’s an amazing Indo-Chinese dish. I loved the curry on it!
Our garlic naan and raita arrived, and then we jumped on the chicken lollipop, which is a chicken wing with one of the bones removed and all the meat pushed to the end, battered, and fried. It wasn’t too crunchy and came with a fantastic garlic chutney that reminded me of a sweet chili sauce.
Next, we dove into the chilli paneer masala, which is basically one of my favorite dishes-paneer chilli-in a masala-rich curry. You eat it with the naan, and it’s a game-changer. The naan is incredible and the curry is light and not too spicy or rich.
Then, we tried the shrimp Madrass curry, which came in a thicker, richer orange gravy with vegetables. It was a little sweet and really succulent and tasty. We followed that with the chicken biryani, which we ate with our hands. I added a bit of raita to make it creamier. I taught him the proper way to eat it!
Best of all, you can mix the different curries into the biryani. Indian cuisine is all about mixing different flavors and textures!
Jesus’ favorite dishes were the samosa chaat and the chicken biryani. Mine was the shrimp Madrass curry. It’s all about the gravy for me!
I loved seeing Jesus enjoy the Indian food. I made a believer out of him and now he wants to come back!
