My Pink Floyd guitar gear - custom pedalboard demo

Here's my pedalboard. The chain is: buffer (the silver box on bottom right), EQ, Compressor, Blues Driver, Muff, Vibe, Flanger, Chorus, volume pedal and delay. The black board is a looper with 8 folders. The tuner is out of the chain (it really takes off a lot of dynamics).
The guitar is a Mexico Standard Stratocaster with EMG-DG20 pickup set.
The amp is a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe, recorded with a Noiz dynamic microphone and a Behringer C1 condenser mic. All mixed throu a Behringer Xenyx and recorded with M-Audio M-track USB soundboard.

Nice demo of what can be achieved w a relatively simple and inexpensive setup. Very convincing Floyd tones. Well done.

Excellent video overall: tones, textures, playing- and great job illustrating which effects are engaged for each passage, I don't know why more gear videos do this. Thank you for taking the time and effort to share this.

Not bad, only a little dark sound on distortion.I had same kind stomp effects, but now i changed all Boss stuff with Boss Me80 that have all Boss sound and It play in STEREO MODE...and least but not last patch and stomp box mode together without using external looper.

The noise you hear is the danelectro vibe... it causes noise with the same speed of the leslie simulation and I'm still trying to figure out how to solve it! Thank you for your comment and for listening!

Very good! Love the Money tone with the Comp, Muff & Chorus. Sounds like the "Pulse" version. Have you tried flanger before drive/muff? I run an E-lady from Mooer, it's closer to the old Green Mistress but perhaps not as lush as the big Deluxe. Green Russian Muff reissue is an affordable and pedalboard-friendly Muff for Gilmour tones. It's not unlike his Sovtek tones. I think the secret weapon are your buffer & EQ. I use a high-quality buffer pre-loop switching system but have yet to incorporate an EQ pedal. May have to rectify that. Great stuff. Well done.

@GibsonLesPaul2273

Good tones especially the first one and nice bass and middle but the tone is a bit too muffled, I feel like I want to turn up the 4k on the graphic EQ just to make it a bit clearer at the high end but thats a minor complaint, otherwise its a sweet setup man. Does your delay let you send just the wet signal to another amp/fx loop like Gilmour does? makes a huge difference, I only just discovered my delay pedal can do this, I have a second amp but the fx loop is working ok for me and keeps it more simple.

Grazie e ciao
@mikecb17
@mikecb17 9 лет назад

What a great video! How do you use the channels on your amp together with this setup? And can you tell us the amp settings for both channels? Thx!
@mikecb17
@mikecb17 9 лет назад
Hi, I use only the clean channel of the amp. The settings of the channel are pretty much neutral (knobs on 12h) with a little boost of the bass and middle. The presence is on 7 o'clock (pretty much zero) because the sound become too "screamy". A little bit of reverb and that's it! Thanks for watching!

Yes, it's the same settings when used as principal overdrive (ex coming back to life solos). When used to boost the muff, I turn just a little bit down the volume of the guitar and boost the mid frequencies with the spc control of the emg dg20. Thanks for listening!

@mikecb17

Basically, the BD-2 is set as booster, meaning low drive and high volume. Finding the right tone depends on your amp, guitar, playing style etc... so you have to try different settings in order to find the tone you like... Thanks for watching my video!

I honeslty don't remember, I've now switched to an MXR Univibe that I found has a better tone. I think the coolcat was set on a 50/50 mix, color to 60% and the speed chenges according to songs (slow for songs like "breathe" or "us and them" and fast for "Any color you like"). thanks for watching!

Man, what do you think is boss SD1 good enough to replace blues drive? because i have a big muff, boss SD1 and boss DS1. indeed i like this combination. And to a good clean only boss compressor sounds good? or is it better add something else? (i'm sorry about my bad english i hope you understand me)
@mikecb17
@mikecb17 8 лет назад
+Lucas monteiro Hi, I use the SD1 as main overdrive. I like it because it has a very warm sound. I use the Blues Driver as a boost for the Muff and for the SD1... for a good clean sound I use the CS3 and a chorus; sometimes I use only the Blues Driver set as boost to have a really "responsive" clean sound (like Mark Knopfler)...
@Lucasmonterohv
@Lucasmonterohv 8 лет назад
As i have told you, here in my country is very expensive all this equipament, so i'm think in buy a zoom MS-50g to use, reverb, chorus, delay. flanger. tunner and this thngs, and of course a CS3(i think compressor is better in analog pedal)

If I was to do a Floyd set up what pedals you suggest I buy first?
@mikecb17
@mikecb17 9 лет назад
Well, my pedalboard is quite basic! You can start with a compressor, an overdrive, a big muff, a chorus and a delay... It depends on what you want to play. For exemple, the Electric Mistress (flanger) is necessary if you want to play The Wall or some songs of The dark side of the moon. The univibe is basic for TDSOTM...

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but what is the midi one pedal really worth? I see that you have kept the same configuration throughout?
@mikecb17
@mikecb17 7 лет назад
Hi, you see the same configuration because I only took one picture and then I edited it to show which pedals are on. The midione it's actually a simple looper, it's very usefull to switch between different combination of pedals. The other big pro is that the pedals that are not in use are phisically out of the chain so the signal goes through just the pedals activated. Thanks for watching!
@igorcaldasvalenca14
@igorcaldasvalenca14 7 лет назад
Thank you, just one more observation between the number 6 and the number 7 of the midi one, have two silver-tipped cables, in the picture I could not identify which pedal it is being used for? Or the input of the amplifier? thanks for listening
@mikecb17
@mikecb17 7 лет назад
Hi, those two cable are connected to the volume pedal that is set after the dynamic affects and before the delay. That way, I can cut the volume and leave, for example, a nice cue of delay at the end of the song. Also, in this way if I lower the volume with the volume pedal, the saturation on the overdrives doesn't change... if iò need less distortion I use the volume control on the guitar...

+Alexander Lüttges Hi, it's built by an italian company called Midione but I really don't know if it's still on business! Anyway you can google looper-switcher and you will have plenty of alternative produtcs!

+Lucas monteiro Sure! In order, Boss CS3, Boss BD2, EH Big Muff, Boss CE5, Coolcat Vibe, EH Electric Mistress and Boss RPS10. I replaced the RPS10 with the TC Electronic Novadelay, I added a Noise Gate (Boss NS2) before the Big Muff and I adeed a Boss SD1, after the BD2, as primary overdrive. The buffers are custom-made so they have no brand! Thanks for watching!
