“I want the sweater yarn!” I love that you are destashing and that makes you happy, I’d have to say that I’m the opposite! Whenever I’m feeling frustrated with what I’m knitting I go into my stash and just pet everything till I get excited again lol
I'm a huge fan of doing this periodically. I actually get anxious if I have too much yarn or too many wips. Giving away yarn to friends brings me so much joy. Last year I posted it on IG and did a fundraiser giving all the proceeds to a charity. I'm going to try and be very thoughtful with my purchases this year and focus on knitting what I have and not being distracted by shinny things :).
Yeah me too! Idk why but having lots of stuff makes me stressed. I know using it up won't get rid of it, but I've got a million-and-one projects I want to start & finish.
Such a fun episode! I love your approach to organization. With over 500 skeins myself, I am not just doing a no buy year, but forever until it is gone. I’m picturing my stash as my own personal yarn store. 🙂

Thank you, Natalie! I live your tips. I still have WAY more yarn, but I don’t feel bad about it now. I plan to knit from my stash as much as possible this year and not spend as much money on yarn as I have been the last couple of years.

I have mostly acrylic and am trying to build my stash of natural fibers (especially superwash). “I want the sweater yarn.” This video has inspired me to figure out a way to de-stash the acrylic in 2022. Love your idea of queued projects instead of stashed yarn on Ravelry and can’t wait to see your monthly progress

I love watching you Natalie! The theme or goal for minimizing and simplifying for 2022 really resonated with me and I love it. I am a retired nurse and current quilter & knitter. I have a huge stash of yarn and fabric. I have moved twice in the past 2 years and downsized each time. I am at the point where getting rid things is very cathartic and feels so much better. So watching this episode was awesome! Thank you. PS. Knitting is winning over quilting these days.

Love the podcast. You ask how many skeins? My friend and I just swapped some vintage Rowan yarn. Ahhhh, 40 skeins each. I dread to think how many skeins I have in my stash, but it’s all organised and on ravelry. I like a large stash as I knit colourwork projects and it’s easy to pull out my boxes of shades. At least I never have to rush to a yarn shop, which is thankful as we don’t have any around here that sell hand painted yarns, not even commercial yarns such as Rowan. Plenty of baby yarn shops though.
I just found your video because I am wanting to use my stash. Some of my stash is when I designed and made a blanket and a lot of extra full skeins of yarn left. And projects I can not always do when I want because I am disabled and my hands don’t always work correctly. My goal is to use what I have before I get any new yarn this year. I also want to finish my WIPs.

I personally am trying to build up a little bit of a stash because I have a tendency to buy loads of colors in one type of yarn so I would love to have a little more variety in yarn :)
“I want that sweater yarn!” 😊 I have a large stash and last year I started really utilizing my Ravelry queue to allocate yarn to each future project, that way I can keep track of which yarns are already spoken for. I don’t love having random skeins that don’t have a plan. Trying to get more into scrap-busting designs (like the Seaglass Sweater) to help use up the bits and random skeins.

As a new knitter I want enough of a stash to have 3-5 future projects planned plus a few sock sets etc. Like right now I have 2 main whips going on and I currently have yarn and patterns for 5 projects plus 3 socks. I feel like this is comfortable and not overwhelming. Once I get down to my last 2 projects I will allow myself to buy more yarn.

But I have also been doing good using them up and gifting it to my friends and family during Christmastime. Right now I’m at 52 and I bought some more to make socks oops 😅 I love your videos and vlogs and I was one off when guessing your skeins count! ❤️

After realizing that misconception, I feel so much better about the size of my small stash - I like having it for test knitting, and so I can take advantage of sales!

I've been enjoying growing my stash quite a bit since I retired - lately I'm focused on sweater quantities generally. I have 100% of my stash documented in Ravelry. Since about 4 years ago each January I export a spreadsheet of my yarn and use random numbers to choose yarns to work with. I do this with most of my projects with a few exceptions usually revolving around gift knitting. It's been great, it helped me use stash I had been carrying around for years and feels like a fun puzzle every time I pull a new random yarn out to figure out what to do with it.

You are so sweet to think about size inclusivity even when giving away yarn. Recognizing that “sweater quantities” aren’t all created equally when you yourself don’t need to worry about that demonstrates how much you care about inclusion. As someone that used to have trouble accessing all the pretty yarns, I do find myself dragon-style hoarding it 😂 I am trying to go through what I have and be realistic about what I want to work with - and accept that some skeins are just not meant to be for me at the moment! I have a very large stash and I've become pretty overwhelmed by it, even though it is organized. I am doing a stash down. I am keeping track of yarn that I knit and yarn that I buy in a spreadsheet. I will only be buying yarn if I need something specific for a gift or if I need additional yarn for a certain project. No random buying. This year is my 10 anniversary of being a knitter and I still have stash that I bought in 2012!! So, I am targeting that stash and trying to use up all of the 2012 stash this year. I already have one project cast on and two on deck. Lots of that stash will be great for knitting stuff to sell or donate. I'm thinking of de-stashing some books too. I'm pretty excited about making my stash less overwhelming

I feel like my stash is similar to a painter having lots of paint. I love having things on hand when I feel inspired to try something new or add color or texture to a project!
"I want the sweater yarn!" I had 94 skeins of stash coming into 2022. My goal is to use 25 skeins of yarn from stash this year. I'd like to have a stash of 25 skeins or less by the end of 2025. I am finding similar feelings to you - I'm less excited about older skeins. I've bought 8 skeins of yarn this year, but they are all for specific projects, and one has already been used up. On the organizing side, I moved all of my minis and scraps to my living room shelves because I have 11 (!!!) scrappy blankets on the go. I really want to start a twelfth, but I'm not allowing myself to start it until I finish 5 blankets. I'm an out of sight, out of mind person, so my previous habit of having minis/scraps in a few different places in storage wasn't working for me. Having them all where I can see them is a little overwhelming right now, but it is effective. I've used up 39 minis/scraps so far this year.

I know someone who has nearly 400 skeins/balls of yarn. It's crazy and I'm jealous. I WISH I had that much yarn! I would NEVER need to go back to get more yarn.
Makes me happy that you're clearing out ... decluttering. I am of the mind that I figure out what I want to make; get everything together and make it. Usually one thing at a time, otherwise I flit around from thing to thing, and nothing gets done. I do like project bags so all my stuff isn't all over the house. Interesting to see how everyone else does it. I'm in a major clear out, so that might be coloring my way of thinking too... lol.

Miss Natty, time for a "non 'fessing" fessin' party! In your video presentation, you appear to be only 18-20 years old! I'm a guy, 58 years young, have been crocheting since I was 6 years old(exposed to it by my grama, and, started doing it at age 10! Am a lefty that does it left handedly (backwards-left-to-right). There are some stitches I need to get a hold of, to advance my crochet skills level-I don't know where to contact for this information. I need print-outs for a lefty done pattern, AND, the pictures for visual aids for understanding the INSTRUCTIONS. Just think, you can tell your girlfriend's that you got accused of being only 18-20 years old! Honey- their tongue's will be wagging for days!😁 Doug

I have over 300 skeins 🤦🏼♀️ but I used buying yarn to grieve my dad who died in 2020. You inspired me to go through my stash and figure out what I'm going to do with it. I'm trying not to buy yarn for the next few months so I can save my money to buy a house - I won't have the extra money to splurge on yarn when I do so at least I have enough now to last me awhile! 🤣

I love my yarn!! I have some that I can use in some giveaways, but I prefer to keep the bulk of it. I buy when I find a good sale, and I just hang on to it. "I want the sweater yarn"! :) I was close on the guess on the stash, lol!! I figured about 50.
