Oh god, welcome to targa ownership....engine problems are relatively easy to sort, bottom ends are bulletproof. Your biggest headache is rust, that tape under the targa hoop is a worry. The targa hoop is structural as it acts as the seat belt mount. You need to stick your hand waaaaay up inside the rear wheel arches and check, there are two large bolts that attach the hoop to the chassis, I prey prey prey for you that those aren't rusted through... 🙏🙏🙏
The 992 Targa looks ridiculously large parked next to the old boy. This reminds me of attempting to drive an even earlier Targa back to Scotland then ending up in a cloud of oil smoke on the M42 which resulted in a trailer and a flight from Birmingham. Ah happy days! Thank you.
I had one of these back in the day. Engine solid, everything else a bit dodge. Good seats. In the wet, I recall death as the main ownership concern rather than rust.
I love your classic content. All the points they have to lay their hands on are similar to my 80s Targa - but your roof is in much better condition. Keep your classic line coming!
Can`t wait to see the Targa when it is refreshed. I like when just the needed stuff is done and the rest can stay original. Great Video and also great content in the Barn there!
Love these vlogs please keep em coming - I run an old 930 and they really are the last race cars adapted for the road - take’em round the public lap at Le Mans Classic to see why.
Great content Tom....keep it up (singlehandedly supporting the classic Porsche industry ! Best bit....they are going to connollise the interior leather - I have no idea what that means"....marvellous stuff Tom.
It's a beautiful car dude, really pleased for :) I had the feynlab coating on my car about 2 years ago, It self heals light scratches etc. I'm sure you know about it already but I thought it might be good for your porsche. Can you film the heating process for the hood? Maybe an interesting video. You may have answered this already, but is this a longterm car? Big porsche fan, they have some awesome cars there :)
This video is everything! I love seeing round these incredible classic car collections. Some are absolutely beautiful. I can’t wait to see what they do to your targa. Amazing video
well Tom, you may have put me off.... I've said I want a classic 911 to come out of my YT channel, having now watched this where you bought a good 911 to find out it still needs a shed load spending on it may to my wife's delight put me off getting one. How can mear mortals like me know what's good and bad. :( car still looks great though :D
If it's a genuine non-sport car in a G50, as suggested by the fact it has no front spoiler and a non- original rear spoiler, it's reasonably rare in RHD and potentially worth more with the rear spoiler removed again. It also needs a proper front number plate carrier.
Thanks for a good run-through. I love the G series Targa and black is always cool and classy. And I love that colour on the interior and seats. Really good looking. But I would like to see the end result, after these things were fixed. Do you have a video or pictures? Thanks.
Hey Tom, It's Max with the Blue Golf again here. Hope you're well. Still catching up on your uploads (sorry it's taking me a while). Just thought I'd leave a note here as you were at Porsche Reading in this video, and I live in Reading, which is slightly Chaotic. Hope to bump into you again soon. Maybe next time I'll fanboy a bit less and be able to hold a proper conversation with you, rather than just screaming "TOM! TOM! OMG TOM! Nice car mate!" out of my window. Would love a proper chat with you one day. Here's hoping. Amazing churn as always. Hope all is well with Crisps and Ianthe too, as well as the new dog I saw you adopted on Insta/Twitter. (sorry I can't remember their name, I've not got to that video yet).
Awesome ..... another cool retro adventure to follow. Its a damn nice car ...... also was glad that the title was a little more dramatic than the actual .... hehehe. Nicely played ....
Fun 911 Targa status update TGE and a random bit of observation but I heard a British reg. 912E with 'Turbo Thomas' exhaust on YT, did sound rather excellent 👍😎
When lifting the engine lid you must first lift the wiper away from the screen otherwise it will be damaged. Looks like yours may already have gone that way...
You might have a bit of wind noise Tom but at least you still have your roof. 😂😂 btw saw your insta post - your email is definitely not working. Appreciate you sacrificing some view count to keep us old boys happy. Would happily sponsor more of this if only your email worked 💻🔨💵
Question for you Tom. I can only get one of 996 Turbo X50, 991.1 Carrera S with great spec and Porsche warranty or 991.2 Carrera S with okayish spec. Which one do I get?
