My Positive Birth Story + Tips For Giving Birth Without Epidural
✅ FREE Mini Birth Class - www.builttobirth.com/free-min...
I’m so excited to share with you my POSITIVE BIRTH STORY along with some of my top tips for giving birth without epidural. Properly preparing for birth is so important and one of my favorite ways to do that is by listening to positive birth stories. As I share our birth story, you’ll learn about how to have an unmedicated birth (if that’s what you want) but more importantly how to have a positive birth.
I share about our homebirth experience and why we chose a home birth in the first place. Your labor and delivery story might not take place at home, but whether it does or you’re having a baby at a hospital, you deserve a happier, healthier, and easier birth. Labor and delivery is not something you should “wing” but is something you should prepare for so you can have the most empowering experience. Whether you’re wondering how to have a baby without an epidural or how to make informed decisions about your birth, childbirth education is going to give you the tips, tools, and techniques to help you achieve the best birth! Check out all the Built To Birth resources linked down below to educate and empower yourself!

I watched quite a few of your videos at the end of my pregnancy with my first son. I am so glad I found you! I just gave birth to him a little over 24hrs ago, unmedicated and in my home. I was so present and mindful during each contraction and labor phase that I told my husband minutes before I pushed him out, “I think he’s really low and ready to come out, but I’m second guessing because this feels to easy to be right before the pushing stage”. He agreed that it seems like we aren’t far enough along. Wrong! My midwife got to me maybe 6 minutes before his head popped out. It was magical, intense, healing and SO bonding for my husband, baby and I. If I could say the main things that kept me in the best head space and set me up for such a positive experience, it would be: 1. Visualizing what each contraction is doing. Opening cervix and pushing baby down and out into my arms. However you picture it that gives you a solid and positive mental image works wonders! 2. Breathwork!! The 4 in 6 out was all I did throughout until I could tell baby was being pushed down. I naturally went to more of the “j” breath by the end of active labor/early transition. I knew how to do the quick breathe when I felt the “ring of fire” and didn’t tear or have any trauma to any of my parts. Only a few hrs postpartum and I have pretty much been wiping normally-slightly more gentle just given the circumstances. Watch Bridgets breathwork videos! She explains the differences and functions of these breaths beautifully. 3. Make sure you and your partner/birth coaches/ whoever will be with you during labor are on the same page and that you can trust them fully! Honestly this should be #1. I had full confidence in my husband that he was aware and looking out for the safety of baby and I. I was able to let go of all fears or worries and simply focus on surrendering to what my body was doing and intuitively following its lead, knowing that I was safe and in the best, most watchful hands. Lastly, Ina Mays guide to childbirth was a very helpful book that first opened my mind to what I am capable of and what birth should be like. I highly recommend that book as a starting point for any pregnant mamas desiring to get educated but not knowing where to start. Bottom line: YOU can do this! I had my first baby in a hospital with all the pain killers/interventions minus a c-section. I said for months after I had her “I COULD NOT have had an unmedicated birth. It was too much!” A 180° mindset shift later and I just had the birth experience of my dreams and was in the drivers seat the whole time. Take courage and believe in the power of your mind-body connection! And thank you Bridget for educating so many women on what we have been built for- birth!

Okay so I just gave birth to my beautiful daughter yesterday! And came back today to thank you! Your breathing tips helped me soo much, I had contractions from 3 pm till 4 in the morning !! And went to the hospital shocked by nurses when they checked me I was 9.5 cm dilated already ! And I did all that at home. They said they don’t know how I did it and what I did but it’s crazy! I did do exercise 3/4 days in a row to induce labor and ate approx 4 to 6 dates everyday for 2/3 weeks . Just extra tips for all the mammas 💖

@@hali1905karnas well I think walking alone is an amazing way to exercise the body. For my second baby I would go on long walks with my husband and one night (around 9:00 pm) I would say I walked nearly two miles. Later I went to sleep and woke up around 8:00/8:30 am to find slowly leaking fluid coming out. By the time I made it to the hospital I was 8 cm on my own. By 11:00 am, my baby was here! Just getting the body moving is enough just make sure to not over stress yourself!

Something that really bothers me when giving birth in a hospital was that I was trying to stay very calm and breath and they have this mantra going on that you're not in labor until you think you can't do it anymore. That honestly messed it up for me and I did panic a bit because I felt I wasn't progressing when I was just trying to not lose control and surrender to the process. I ended up tearing badly because I don't feel I was able to slowly and naturally push my baby out. I still did it unmedicated but I really hate the idea that a woman has to be distraught in order for then to take her seriously. They clearly don't see peaceful births

@@ireneives3634 yes it helps to watch natural water births and see how the doulas and women are acting. It's so darn peaceful! Often even the baby comes out not crying! Just breathing and staring with awe at mom and dad. It's a myth that loud crying stimulates the lungs. That's just what they made up based off assumptions. I'm 30 weeks as well currently! And definitely glad ive found out more this time around! I hope you have a positive experience and can get nurses who respect the natural process! Keep watching videos on RU-vid and Instagram and gather as much information as possible! Because it really helps and it's the opposite of overwhelming since the natural process is actually way less complicated than what we are taught in mainstream hospitals 🥰 we can do this!! I'm planning a water birth but bringing olive oil too if I for some reason don't want the water. My doula said women have done that and it's potentially helps with tearing. Also for sure look into birth positions and what opens the tailbone/pelvic bone. Laying flat on the back shuts it and makes it harder for baby to come out and more pain and resistance on mom!

Unmedicated birth is the norm in the Netherlands, I gave birth 3 times at the comfort of my own home and all the woman in my family gave birth without medication and most gave birth at home as well. I would never do it any other way, its the most powerfull, beautiful and pure thing you will ever do! Thank you for sharing your story its beautiful to hear others experience..

Just dropping a comment to say THANK YOU. I never thought I’d have an unmedicated birth until it turned out I had no choice because of a medical condition denying me an epidural. My friend loved your videos and sent me your original breathing techniques video and I watched it at the hospital as they were inducing me. I give you all the credit for me being able to handle a natural induced child birth. Without your advice, I would have collapsed but instead I was able to breathe through all contractions and not fight them. To any ladies considering a natural birth, you are stronger than you think. I say this with full sincerity, I do not remember the pain. I know it was awful but I do not remember it. Once you hold your child or all disappears.

3 births, zero epidurals for me. It was pretty amazing in a lot of ways. All my babies scored high on Apgar score. It hurt pretty bad though 😂 The thing about that type of pain is there is a great reward. And pain is a temporary condition in that situation. If you remind yourself of that, it's much more tolerable.

@@PS-qn4oz no one warms you! Lol everyone told me how awesome it is to have kids and to give birth and I was completely in shock when the contractions started coming in heavy. I decided to have an epidural which I think worked out best. My son was almost 8 pounds and I weighed 115 pounds before I was pregnant with him (so I'm pretty stick thin) and he tore me up pretty bad when he came out. I still felt pain through the epidural. It was honestly pretty scary! People told me it was like having period cramps but contractions are so much worse than period cramps 😆😅

I am having an unassisted or “free birth” with my third pregnancy. I am 37 weeks tomorrow, so I am due any moment. I am thrilled for this birth experience, as we have never experienced this before. My first child was full of intervention, medications and my second was a non medicated birth with no interventions and all natural remedies. I am currently watching all of your videos for helpful information. Thank you so much!!!! EDIT TO ADD: I had my Unassisted Birth (free birth) Friday November 11th, 2022!!! My exact due date. It was magical, painful and transformative. I will never forget that experience! Though I opted for a water birth in our tub, sometimes you have to go with the flow of changes and I delivered on my bed with the help of my mother. What a beautiful moment we all shared together, as my husband was by my side cheering me on, our other kids were sound asleep for the night and my dad was in the living room to time when baby was born. Ugh I can’t stop thinking about it. I’m blessed it went smoothly and recovery has been the best thus far. No tearing, no dizziness and no excess bleeding. Thank you JESUS!!!

This was so similar to my birth story 🥰 we had our first this time last year at a birth center. I labored through the day, managing the pain well, and irrationally believing I was early labor and didn't need to go in, because the contractions were so manageable. When my husband finally convinced me we needed to leave, I went through transition in the car, and arrived at the birth center 9.5cm dilated! Baby was born 40min later in the birthing pool. It was wild, it was magical, it was beautiful and shocking and amazing in every way. Loved hearing your story. It makes me want to have a home birth for our second... Sounds more calm and comfortable. ♥️

What you said at the 12:00 mark is so key. The body does what it’s supposed to do. This past weekend I delivered my son at home alone as my husband went to grab the car and the urge to push came. I was standing up pushed twice and he was here. Taking the trip to the hospital (wasn’t the hospital I was supposed to give birth at) messed up my experience. I’d definitely do an intentional home birth next time around. My first baby was at the hospital and it was a good experience. However, nothing beats having my second at home and feeling so empowered.

Neither of my births went like I thought they would. (Or wanted them to.) A lot of my first birth is a blur, but I VIVIDLY remember the pushing contractions! But they started before I was fully dilated and my nurse kept telling me “stop pushing!” I actually yelled back “I’m not pushing! He is!!!” Lol. I wasn’t exactly rational at the time, but you are so right that once the pushing starts, you just have to go with it as calmly and safely as possible. But I also remember my pushing contractions feeling like a relief. Like all the painful labor up until that point had been an argument between me and my body but when I got to push, I was working with it again. Aside from the ring of fire, pushing felt better than the transition.

What a beautiful story! I was a labor and delivery nurse, gave birth to our first child, our daughter in the hospital with a midwife, but still very medically managed. My personal preference was always to birth at home with a midwife, so our next four births were all at home. We birthed in Ohio, in Okinawa, in Washington state, and in Germany!! I was 28 with our first, on active duty in the Air Force, separated when she was 2, and 43 when our last boy was born, 28 days before we left Germany and my husband retired from the Air Force! Our children are now 37 to 22, and we are approaching our second retirement!! I can attest to everything you talked about! Being in your own home and comfortable with your caregivers and support team are so wonderful!! I definitely would have wanted to give birth at home in the current situation!! Congratulations on your new daughter! I love your enthusiasm and obvious love for women and babies. Before we started home schooling, I did a lot of birth, babies, and breastfeeding support and instruction. So great to see others continuing the work. I pray God's blessings over you, your family and your work!!

Your videos are so helpful. I’m in my second pregnancy and due April next month with another boy. My first was in a hospital and everything just didn’t go as planned and feel guilty about it. This time I’ll be having a home birth. I know my body is built for birth but I’m still a little nervous. I have a midwife and my son and husband will be here with me. Thank you for your time and education, I’m slowly feeling so much more confident about my decision

My water broke and I was only 3 centimeters. I was in labor for 19 hours after my water broke. I wasn’t planning to get the epidural, but I thought I was going to pass out, so I finally got it and I am so glad I did! Idk how I went 10 hours with intense pain.

I had a very similar experience! I was on pitocin and they broke my water at 5cm. I had been up all night, labored for 26 hours, and pushed for 4.5 hours. I'm so glad that I had the epidural as an option even though I didn't want one originally. I was just way too tired to cope. Still would like to go unmedicated this time!

OMG, it is so my story. My water broke and they put gel so laboure can start. i was in pain for 2 days but cervix never opened more than 3cm. I was so damn tired of crying and pains that my body just gave up and i felt numb and dead. I was also tired of another women screaming like monster near my room and it was also the reason my blood pressure went higher and they had to give me medicine. It was times where i would ask hubby and midwives if i am alive or dead. Finally they gave me epidural even i didnt wanted it and now i am so greatful that i said yes. I am pragnant 39 weeks and i will go for epidural bec medicated or unmedicated, the baby is born vaginal and healthy so why should i as a mum kill myself bec our woman bodies and minds are made to take the laboure pain and birth pain. I remember that i hated my baby boy and i didnt want midwuves to put him even on my chest. I hated the baby so much but thank God it was only for some hrs and then i fell in love with my baby. So epidural is a life saver. Now i understand thet every pragnancy is so different and women should stop shaming other women when it comes to choice of medicated. Everyone in my circle scared me so much and now again trying to shame me and tell me how bad epidural is, lollz. I tell them to shut up and fuck off.

Thanks for sharing! I've had three home births so far and even though every birth is so different, I think I can still say that ignoring it until you absolutely can't helps tremendously. My two young sons were with me when I was in labor with my daughter, they kept me busy, distracted and on my feet which I think helped things progress faster. I knew I hit transition when I started sniffling on the phone with my husband and he asked what was wrong, I said "it just hurts so bad!" So I finally called my midwives and she was born 1.5 hrs later.

Also, guide me on what to do in case u r at homebirth and suddenly need for emergency c sec arised (just to be prepared)? Also, ppl scare u by saying home is not sanitary to birth, or u will die without medical assistance is it tru? And, Can I have a home birth with at least one nurse or experienced doctor present at home? Thank you. What do u do after giving birth at home, like what abt cleaning baby, umbilical cord, placenta, and all things, pls tell ur experience.? Thanks

I am from Romania. I gave birth at home to my first child almost a year ago, on 24th March. I watched until due day I think all your videos posted since that date. I love you! And your videos 😍 I weaped a bit right now watcking this one because I had a back labor and my sweet daughter was born with her hand on her head. A bit shocked that you experienced this too. For me unfortunately I was not assisted by a certified midwife, still the one that should have come from 250miles was afraid of the newly lockdown. So we ended up being assisted on whatsapp, and our doula became a midwife. Neither us or doula don't regret this, but there are minuses about the expulsion. I took baby girl to Cranio-Sacral Therapy and she developed just fine, and I recover more and more from the unpleasent part of the experience. Thank you very much for being here, for being a Light for mamas 💖💖💖

In fact, I felt empowered, strong, capable and yes a bit tired in the end haha. I had the best experience and was so amazed at how quick delivery went as well! Went to the hospital upset and down b/c my midwife planned on inducing but ended up going all natural and getting my water to break on its own. This video gives me hope for a natural birth with baby #2 when the time comes. I binged your videos in preparation for my daughter's birth last year, but after leaking water and pitocin inductions, ended up getting an epidural. I'm really hoping for a different experience next time and so thankful for your video on this!

I just had my baby girl this week and I would watch not only this video a lot but many of your videos to motivate myself and prepare myself for an unmedicated birth. I had an epidural with my son and although it was a beautiful birth, physically my recovery was hard and I wanted to experience a different birth this time with my daughter and be more in control. Even though I prepared a lot for my birth, I still didn’t think I could do it unmedicated, even going in I told my nurse that if I didn’t progress fast enough I would likely just get the epidural since everyone there kept asking me as if I would eventually get it. I just kept riding the intense contractions in my hospital’s bath tub, something I didn’t do with my son, and even though it was very intense, I progressed so fast that I was able to stay with my plan and didn’t get an epidural or need pitocin (til after my birth)! It was an amazing experience that I will always cherish. I also couldn’t believe it when my daughter was born, I was in so much shock that I did it and my labor was so fast this time. I labored mostly in the tub at my hospital and followed so many of your tips throughout. Can’t believe my girl is finally here and I did it! Thank you so much for your videos. 💗
