I have been running into skin issues ( #ingrown hairs) after #shaving the last few years. I finally had enough and purchased an #ElectricRazor .
My weapon of choice is the #panasonic #arc5 - I have been using this product for a month and I am giving my thoughts and letting you know if it actually prevents ingrown hairs.

Arc 5 is no doubt one of the best electric shaver on the market and definitely the best one I've ever had. The thing for electric shaver is that you never beat a straight blade razor in closeness, but you are basically harming your skin too and that is really bad for your skin in long run, that's why I switched From razor to electric shaver couple of years ago and so far I am happy with my decision.

my brother, the Arc 5 is the best electric shaver hands down. I use it every other day and it gives me the closest shave with "ZERO" irritation. Let me help you out Joey! First wash your face then pat dry. Second use a pre shave product. I use Williams Lectric "Electric Razor Pre-Shave" with Tea Tree. Third finish with a warm towel over your face. Let's call this one done and enjoy these tips for Life my brother. Hope this helps you out. Also your tools, please maintain them regularly. So wash, clean, dry and oil your machine at least once a week.

I got that Lectric stuff last week - IT IS A GAME CHANGER! That you for taking the time to share your advice. I am going to do a little follow up on the pre-shave as i feel like it was the missing link.

I get ingrown hairs on my neck constantly even with DE feather blade shaving. They are annoying. I tried tendskin and witch hazel. And no matter what the ingrowns come back red and irritated looking. I own the Pannasonic Arc5 but stopped using it years ago because of redness and irritation. I’ll have to play around with wet shaving with it again and see.

Good luck Ryan - my situation is still a work in progress, but keep reading and trying different techniques. I am having better luck with old school safety razors

My under chin hair isn’t trimmed well though I use Arc6, is there a specific tip?
@JoeyLombardi
@JoeyLombardi Год назад
Actually I do have a tip. Use an electric pre-shave lotion like "Letric Shave", it makes the hairs stand up and the razor can work better. I noticed a pretty big difference in quality.

Just like Joey said and try not to push the shaver more than it is designed for. It is made ideally for 1-3 day growth. Best results are 1-2 days between shaves. it also depends on how fast your hair grows. I try to do each day. I have a goatee so it doesn't take me long at all. YMMV

This panasonic cut close to skin ? Its better than braun ?….cut more better ?
@JoeyLombardi

It is not a close shave - you have stubble after you use it.

@JoeyLombardi
@JoeyLombardi Год назад
@@theodordragos914 - I can't say I had a close shave with any of the electrics I tried. I switched to an old fashioned safety razor and it has been better for me. You can also try using Letric Shave lotion with the electric razor, that made the shave better (it makes the hairs stand up more).

I went ahead and bought my Braun Series 9 pro two weeks and very happy with it. I use it for bald head shave and face. It has some of the issues as the Arc with the under the jaw hair and chin. I will say that the cut is pretty damn close. Close enough that I am giving my babyliss FX2 that cuts better away. The difference is not significant for me and the Braun shaves faster. If you need it for bald head, its fabulous. 4 days of hair growth and knocked it out in about 5-6 minutes. I would be at least 10 minutes with my manual razor being extra careful. The arc does not do well with longer hair that the Braun 9 knocks through. Pros and Cons to both.

how about trying a Double Edge Safety Razor
@JoeyLombardi
@JoeyLombardi Год назад
I am totally open to that. What is the net benefit of the double edge?
@donkee011
@donkee011 Год назад
@@JoeyLombardi 1. Hygiene (no clogging of hair and gunk, you can clean and dry the razor after every shave-so no rust ond the blade edge. And belive me, stainless blades do rust if left wet). All this leads to your face not getting bacteria and irritation from the blade. 2. Price benefit. You can get a 100 de blades for under 10$. And one blade lasts me for five or more shaves. And one safety razor will take any brand of de razor blade. So no more proprietary corporate bs. 3. Environmental care. No more plastic garbage! Cartridge razors can not be recycled. Nuf said. 4. Way better for the skin. Way less irritation. One blade is all you need to effectively cut the facial hair. All other multiblade talk is just commercial product placement. 5. Use a brush and some shaving soap/cream. Exfoliating the skin with a shaving brush is the cure for ingrown hairs. Plus, a proper lather with actual water in it, gives great slickness in a shave. All this and many more is affordable, long lasting and makes you love shaving. No kidding. I am in it for more than 10 years. Never looked back on cartridge razors. Try it. There is a lot of YT wet shavers and great forums that can help a lot with advice for any novice. Good luck.

Maybe one day when I tire of electric razors. I just don't have time. I get up at 5am, need to get ready with a spouse who needs to be out the door by 6. Also need to get the kid to the bus stop by 630am. Long commute to start work at 8am. I guess I could double edge before bed, but that doesn't sound appealing. Maybe save that for a Saturday shave. I know electric is not the best or cartridge, but at this stage of life, time is very important. @@donkee011

The electric didn't stop the ingrown situation for me. I ended up moving to a safety razor and it has been a lot better for my skin. Certainly an adjustment and more time, but it has been working. Did a video on that too

This guy is too cheap for a mid 40s guy. He said "$200 plus" like it was a million dollars. That shaver will last 10 years and it will do something as important as shaving which impacts every day of his life. I bet he doesn't blink an eye at a large bill for a huge amount of beer or drinks at a sports bar.

Your comment is not polite. I don't mind picking up a bar tab and I don't mind spending good money on a tool that works. This didn't for me. So it wasn't worth any amount of money. That is the point.

@@JoeyLombardiI noticed that you press too hard and swipe it on your face too fast and you did not use Williams electric pre-shave. Furthermore, Arc 5 will give you a closer shae than the Braun Series 7-9 but you will get more ingrown hairs because it cuts below the hairline. Rotary razors do that too. If you get the Braun Series 7, it will cut right above the skin so that you get a smooth shave and it will avoid ingrown hair. If all else fails, get the Philips Norelco OneBlade. That thing is perfect except that the blades get dull super fast and they are expensive. But the shaver itself is cheap.
