Thanks for the video. This is exactly what I was looking for since most other reviews did it outdoors on the range and I’ll be using it mostly with a net. And you also showed more of the app than others. Finally, you hit some “bad” shots to show how it picked it up and as a beginner that was definitely helpful.
Thanks for the video. This was just what I needed. I’ve been searching for a ‘how to’ video as I’ve just purchased the MLM (July 2023) now that it has been discounted with the launch of the MLM Pro. Unfortunately I don’t have a suitable indoor venue where I can use it, but hoping to make the most of my clubs practice area to get some decent stats. Your video certainly helps with set up etc., thanks.
I've used one for about two days, and mixed feelings. I need to fine tune the aim, because at 6 feed back, it seems too close, but I'm trying to align the "path" with two tees set up on a mat. Then I do that, it records too much on the right, and not enough on the left. Distances seem too short for multiple players. I think it's ball speed vs launch angle, and not sure how launch angle is calculated, unless it compensates for it's own level. My 7 iron's usually 140-150, and this is more like 100. It has some potential, and the video is valuable. Have a feeling the R10 may be a favorite, like sold out
You have presented an excellent view of the Rapsodo launch monitor, however, I would appreciate it if you could make a video of how to get to all of the screens of sessions and stats. Thanks for considering this progect.
Very useful stuff here. just bought mine and was a little disappointed in how very little included in the package. No quick set-up guide. No charging instructions. Nothing, just the unit, the case, and the charging cable. I get the whole save a tree thing but how hard would it be to at least include a QR code (maybe even on the device somewhere) that would take you to the company website and the set up page directly from your phone. This video has helped a lot as far as getting started. Thanks for the effort.
Good video! I set up my indoor setup and the yards seems to be off by probably 40 yards compared to being outside. It's strange 8 iron inside 80 yards and outside 120. It's kinda disappointing that it's not closer!
I was going to get a MLM until I saw the new Garmin R10. Way more features and only a $100 more. The biggest feature for me is the Garmin will give you shape shots when hitting into a net, whereas the Rapsodo does not.
JRock I was going to do the same, until I found out that Garmin r10 shows some really strange spin rates and distance numbers. This one seems to be much more accurate when comparing both to the GC quad.
I used my MLM for the first time today indoors. I had almost every one have incorrect distances. I was trying to compare it to my Skytrak so I could get a baseline for when I take the MLM outside. What would cause it to be off by 20 yards and also launch angle and ball speed? thanks for your video, good job.
I don’t have one but am considering getting it. Off the top of my head I’d say make sure the MLM is 6 feet from the ball, level to the ground, and sits at the same height as the ball. Also make sure you’ve calibrated it correctly. Good luck!
Yes, you can definitely download the app on your iPad and log in and then all of your data will be available for you see on the larger screen. Alternatively, you can also mirror your screen on your TV if you have AppleTV or connect directly to your TV or a larger monitor with an HDMI adaptor for your iPhone or iPad.
The games available are closest to the pin and longest drive, which are both available on the free version. You can set them up as single player or multi-player and add 3 additional players to compete. You also set the number of shots and number of rounds you want. The Premium version adds the Combine, a ~20-minute test to evaluate shots at three different distances.
Nice video. A question on you Net Return Pro setup please? Do you have an extra curtain/sheet hanging behind the net frame? Extra brakes to slow the ball into the back wall?
Thank you. I added the black sheet for two reasons. For one, I think it looks better than seeing the mess behind the net! More importantly, I wanted to make it as easy as possible for the MLM to see and track the ball. The net itself does a pretty good job at putting the breaks on the ball before hitting the wall behind.
Rapsodo just added functionality for both Outdoor and Net mode for the following iPad devices: iPad Mini 6th gen, iPad 9th gen and the also added support for the following iPads in Net Mode only: iPad Air 3rd gen and iPad Mini 5th gen. No, I don't believe you can use the Rapsodo MLM as a simulator. They do have a separate product called the Rapsodo R Motion which is sensor you attach onto your club and is used with The Golf Club Game simulator. For a simulator you could use the Garmin R10 or for a little more $ you could go with the SkyTrak or Mevo Plus.
I know you said that you can mirror the output to a TV screen using an Apple TV for the mirroring, but could you also output from the Apple TV to a projector, projecting the image onto the "Net" hitting area IF you had like a ballistic screen that is available for the Net Return net that you have? Have you considered trying that or would the "white" ballistic screen make it more difficult for the MLM to pick up the ball flight? Asking because your setup is exactly what I am considering to purchase but I'm hesitant about putting a white screen in front of the net and trying to display the mirrored video on that same screen (just because I think it would be cool if it did work).
Hey James - The short answer is that yes you can do it, but I don't think it is worth it (i.e. no real value add to the experience). I just set mine up in the basement and mirrored the image to the AppleTV and through the projector onto a white screen as you described. You will see your stance and swing, but it's on indoor mode, so you don't get anything more exciting like the shot tracer. Also, with my iPhone sitting vertically in the MLM cradle, the projected image on the screen is portrait mode and therefore you don't get the benefit of the large screen (probably different with an iPad). Bottom line is that if you want the simulator mode with the projector and screen I would look into the Mevo+ or the SkyTrak, which are two of the more "affordable" personal launch monitors which would provide a superior on-screen experience.
@@mmills006 Thanks very much for the detailed response; I kind of knew I wouldn't get the shot tracer, I think I was more concerned that hitting into a white screen in front of me might throw off the Rapsodo from picking up the ball flight. Would you at least be able to show the shot dispersion or whatever you had displayed on the iPhone/Ipad screen? I haven't even unpacked the Rapsodo yet; mostly picked it over the Mevo+ because I wanted shot dispersion data and was willing to give up "indoor" shot tracer. Distance and shot dispersion I feel will make me a better golfer (in theory)...
@@jwhartwayne Assuming the shot does gets picked up by the MLM (I agree that the white screen and dimmer lighting when using a projector may impact the ability for the camera to see the ball) then you would be able to see the shot dispersion and other data on the screen.

Do you have to do club set up i.e. length and loft for each club like r-motion did? Cause if so that will definitely effect your yardage if not set up with your actual length and lofts. Just curious as I've never used the MLM but am considering buying one soon.
As far as I know there is no option for that type of club input. Under your profile you can select the clubs in your bag, which will be available when selecting your clubs during practice sessions, but you do not input any specifications. For wedges you can choose from a number of lofts from 46 to 64 degrees.
I just tried it in the garage with the net without my SIM card and I turned off wifi as well. I kept bluetooth on so it could connect to the MLM. I was able to use it like normal. The only thing I noticed was that after I was done the shots were not showing up in the Sessions section (where you can review the shot video and see all of the other stats). Once I turned wifi back on (with SIM still removed) I was able to see it all on the app. So, long way to say it seems to work fine without the SIM (at least in the net mode). Next time I am on the range I can check that out as well.
On the course / range it does a good job of tracking the slices and hooks and the shot tracer seems to replicate/follow the shot well. Inside, it is less accurate for big misses because I don't think the 6-8' to the net really gives enough ball data to properly create a shot trajectory that is too far off the centre line. Factors like ball spin are also not captured which would impact the severity of the missed shot in real life. It will show my slices and hooks on the app, but I just feel that it is too generous and makes it look like a small miss left/right, when in reality it is probably out-of-bounds on the course!
Absolutely. Every shot will have a video recording and when you select the video replay there will be a send icon on the bottom right of the screen and this will allow you to send via iMessage, email, WhatsApp, etc.
I am using an iPhone 11 Pro. I have not had an overheating issue indoors, but I was out on the range this week and it was about 90 outside and the phone was extremely hot. The MLM wasn't particularly hot, but I shut it down and took a break anyway.
Nice setup! Did you have issues setting it up for the net mode initially? I recently purchased mine. The yardages I get seem to be consistently off by 30-40 yards. Not sure what I am doing wrong .
Thanks @kovaipayyan. The setup was surprisingly simple out of the box and after charging it, I was hitting right away. I didn't experience any issues with the net mode selection in particular and my iPhone/app connected to the device right away. I feel like the MLM is giving me distances that are 5-10 yards shorter than I think I should be hitting it, but I want to get it outside on the range to really test out the distance accuracy. With 8 feet of ball flight there are some limitations on what the MLM can predict on ball flight and distance, but overall I feel like it is in the ballpark for me. I do find some of the lateral ball movement might be underestimated with net mode (i.e. some shots that I really pull or slice don't appear that far off from the center line in the monitor, even though I know in real life they would be horrible shots!). Hopefully you get the distances worked out (make sure you are giving it at least the minimum recommended 8 feet of ball flight) and enjoy your new toy.
@@mmills006 Thanks for the information. Is that a black sheet that you added behind your net return? Currently, I am hitting into a white net and am not sure if that is obscuring the white ball. I need to darken the background and see what happens. I hope I didn't get a lemon from golf town. Please do post your experience when you try the unit outdoors. Here in the Toronto area, it is going to be a while before I can hit at a range....
I did add the black sheet (Neewer 10 x 12FT Backdrop Background for Photography). It serves to hide the eyesore of all the junk I have in my garage behind the net and also I wanted something dark for better ball visibility, as you noted. I am also in Ontario hence the need to stay in my garage for now..
@@owentdc I have not used indoors over the summer (outdoor / on course use has been great by the way) so I have not followed up on distance discrepancy. A few days ago Rapsodo released version 1.9.2 of the app and they updated the Net Algorithm, so maybe there is a fix in there to improve the accuracy.
I am using the Net Return Pro Series V2 (8' wide x 3' 6" deep x 7' 6" high) and I added a black sheet (Neewer 10 x 12FT Backdrop Background for Photography) to hide the mess in the back and also have more contrast for the MLM to see the white ball.
@@Sboc123 I read that quickly as "most" golf balls instead of almost golf balls. I have not tried foam balls with it, but given it calculates the data based on the ball flight I think the data would not be great. From Rapsodo website: Can I use wiffle or foam practice golf balls with my MLM? No. In order for you to get accurate data, you will need to use a real golf ball. The MLM will not trigger properly if using a wiffle or foam practice ball.
You take cover quickly! Obviously, there are a lot of things to ricochet off of in there, but fortunately I have only missed once and no real damage to people or property. At that distance from the net you really need a bad shank off the hosel to actually miss the net.
