My reaction to hearing Du Hast by Rammstein for the first time! I think I love him! 

I remember Till Lindemann signing autographs in an autograph session. A fangirl said to him: "You changed my life" Till answered: " I am sorry." Love that band. Greetings from Germany :)

When Rammstein is going to give a concert in an arena, they usually need about 60 semi-trucks full of equipment and it takes the crew an entire week of 60+ hours in total until everything is set and ready to go. In addition to that, it takes the audience about four hours until everyone has entered the arena. The numbers are just insane. But it pays off, from my point of view, Rammstein does the best stage performance of all bands.

Till Lindemann was a member in the European Junior Swimming Championships in Florence in 1978. He was shortlisted to go to 1980 Olympics in Moscow however ceased the game before long. And he have kept in shape ever since. The reason for Flake (the keyboardist) is on a thread mill is because he have a lot of energy but because of the heavy amount of fireworks it would be dangerous to let me run around on Stage, so this is a way for him to burn some of that Energy.

Rammstein are a weapon live and the incredible crowd control is a trademark of them and no matter in which country they play, the audience sings in German like in Paris.🆒. By the way Til does this specific move cause he had dislocated his knee before a concert and repeatedly hit it in the backstage area to reduce it. The other band members found this movement totally cool so that he took it over for the stage ! Apart from the fact that Til is a trained pyrotechnician, at Rammstein concerts a special stage worker is very close to the stage and is connected by a microphone to the person who controls the fire. He feels the temperature on his cheek and gives corresponding instructions whether you can still step it up a notch or the flames have to be reduced. A political statement for the refugees who have drowned by the thousands in the Mediterranean Sea. The Ring, which we say, is the legendary Formula 1 race track "Nürburgring"(The green hell), located in the middle of a central mountain of Germany, the "Volcano - Eifel". Rammstein was the Headliner and there are more than 85000 fans on the target line and I was right in the middle 😜 😉 and not only the few thousand hardcore fans directly in front of the stage answer Til's questions, but actually the entire audience down to the last row - INCREDIBLE 👍 ! At some point Ramstein discovered that you can make up with instant coffee. According to concentration, black to red spots appear, which looks like dirt or blood. Flake was hyper nervous all the time during an earlier tour. What did he forget ? That he was made up with lots of coffee in the evening during every concert 😂 - Maybe the reason why he needs a treadmill 😄😉 But without Flake Rammstein would never have been what they are. Again and again he is only moved into the nerd corner and underestimated enormously. What most people remember is only the treadmill he is running on while playing. Most of the Rammstein pieces are backed by a mostly inconspicuous but sometimes bombastically symphonic sound body combined with techno elements and so much more. It´s done so cleverly that it is hardly noticeable in the foreground. But if you take it out of the equation and mix it away at the mixer console, the rest sounds almost like any metal band. Together with the typical Rammstein monster guitar riffs the keyboards in the background fill up the entire sound, make things round, and not at least because of this Rammstein sound so unique. The Band took a year off so they could all ,not just Till , become certified pyro Technicians to be able to do the effects they do. What looks like sweat is actually pyro jell to protect them because those flames come within an inch of them.

Rammstein is the only bsnd who brings a french crowd to sing German.

Till Lindemann the singer was a Olympic -level swimmer in East Germany.

He looks this way because he was swimming in the east german national swimm team in the 70s/80s. 1500m/400 m freestyle.

Great reaction! I've seen Rammstein for the first time over 25 years ago and still love them. I often listen to a Czech band, that I really like even if I don't speak Czech. "Du tust mir weh" live at Madison square garden is another great video you should check out. The German lyrics explained in depth and detail. The lyrics of the verse are basically 2 sentences saying "You have asked me" = "Du hast mich gefragt" which is sentence Nr1 "But I didn´t reply" = "Aber ich hab´nichts gesagt" = literally translated it´s "But I said nothing" meaning in that particular context "I didn´t reply (to your question)" which is sentence Nr2 That is the verse of that song and that´s it ...verse fully explained The chorus of the song is then the old traditional German marriage vow of a christian marriage. Where the priest or the marriage registrar is asking both of the marriage couple but each seperately at least 2 questions which have to be answered with "yes" before he declares the couple for married. And those 2 Questions are the lyrics of the chorus Chorus literally translated into English: "Do you want to be loyal for all days till death is tearing you both apart ?" "Do you want to love her for all days till death is tearing you both apart ?" But here in the song the singer Till is replying to every of both questions with a loud and clear "Nein" = "No" even said it twice for each "No, No" That is what the song is about = "At first she - ovbiously - asked him to marry her and he didn´t reply - She took that - obviously - as a Yes and at the wedding ceremony he then strongly refused to marry his girlfriend " That´s it. Song fully explained soley according to the actual written text. But what is really going on while singing the 2 sentences of the verse They split up the first sentence of the lyrics "You have asked me/Du hast mich gefragt" into single words just adding one after another in order to built a whole meaningful sentence...starting with the first word of the sentence "Du" (You).....then repeating the first word and adding the second ...."Du hast" (You have)...repeating + adding the next word .."Du hast mich" (You have me).... which got repeated and then the sentence got fully finished by adding the last word .."Du hast mich gefragt" Now here is the clue..the verb "have" in 2nd person singular and the verb "hate" in 2nd person singular are sounding in German - phonetically - exactly the same but they are written differently .."Du hast"= "You have"...but "Du hasst" written with 2 "s" = "You hate" just as explaination in order to understand what´s going on. SO when they add just word after word in order to built a meaningful sentence and that sentence word progression reaches the point of "Du hast mich" then it sounds like saying "You hate me/Du hasst mich" because of the lack of further context posed till to this point and that is misleading the audience because it is just heard but not read ..and in this song it is simple a on purpose intended pure phonetic wordplay which only just works "phonetically" - and - only just makes sense in that particular context of the aftermath of what that song was about...because just in the aftermath of that song you then can say "the girl" very likely will then hate him after he replied so intensely with "No" by getting asked the marriage vow at a marriage ceremony refusing to marry her in front of all the wedding guests .in that moment that tricky wordplay/confusion of words/intended misleading (call it like you want) of "hast/have" and "hasst/hate" makes sense as well. But in fact there is no single word of "hate" in the lyrics. that misleading worked like saying in English totally out of the blue with no further context "My".."My deer".."My deer has".."My deer has huge".."My deer has huge antlers"...until I say "antlers" you will very likely think/presume I´m speaking of "My Dear having huge... ...presumed breasts or butt cheeks or teeth... what ever" and you are not thinking in the slightest about "My deer" before I say "antlers"...and the very similar thing is happening here in the lyrics with "Du hast"..until they have not finished the whole sentence by adding the last word "gefragt/asked" everyone is falsely presuming he speaks of "Somebody who hates him" but in fact he didn´t he is just going to say "You have asked me" but the sentence wasn´t finished yet....he is just tricking the audience...and in the aftermath of the song it doesn´t matter anymore if you heard "have" or "hate" in the first place because of the context of the whole song then both make sense.

The lyrics is mainly a german version of the "..'til death do us part" - wedding vow. As always with Rammstein, the lyrics contains some play on words and ambiguities. eg. "Du hast... du hast mich..." - the phrases the crowd is chanting at the beginning - just means "you've got... you've got me...", which doesn't really make any sense. But in german "Du hast" sounds absolutely the same as ""Du hasst", which means "you hate". And in the context of a long term marriage, "you hate me" may be not so uncommon ;) So what's the meaning of all this ? I don't have a clue. Maybe how easy love can turn into hate ? Just as easy as "Du hast" becomes "Du hasst" ?

Best thing is to make a full venue scream a language they don't understand. Till is a trained pyrotechnician Rumor is that the stage has x marks where every member has to stand, if they leave it, they could get burned Flake ( keyboard ) asked for the threadmill, because he got bored during performances Flake is also Till's favorite "toy" during live shows. You really should watch the piano version of Mein hertz brent. THAT is pure art! Just a piano and Tills voice. But do yourself a favor and check out the lyrics first. That makes the song so much more powerful, no matter how you choose to interpret it!

The stuff that Rammstein uses that looks like blood is to keep from getting burns and you are right takes a lot of work to make a concert.

Yeah it costs hell of a money to set that all up and fulfill the safety requirements - no wonder that a Rammstein ticket cannot be and is not cheap. (if you manage to get one anyway...) In former days Till was an Olympic swimmer for the GDR !

Most interesting fact might be that Till has a terrible stage fright and is a pretty humble shy dude most of the time :D He says he ahs to switch into another persona to battle that stage fright. With humble and shy I mean ordinary and nt so extrovert. He is also the son of a german poet and writes poerty himself and has books out there. The lyrics of rammstein usually have a deeper meaning also the raw and explicit ones..
