Yeah, neely may not have been very professional.. but that's in 1980... we're in 2024.. not having him killed is professional today.. still, refusing an 8x8 doesn't sound very professional either.. make him the 6ths highest paid with the least credentialed of the top 10. Neely is only making sure everyone knows that Boston is NOT lowballing the guy... he's just pulling a UAW and demanding an obscene increase. I hope we don't see him in 24/25.. let him find out how much he can get with a season off.. and still be an RFA next year.
6th highest paid goalie is not that impressive at the time of signing considering he's pretty easily the best U-28 goalie in the NHL besides maybe Oetter. He needs to be paid close to Hellebuyck considering you're getting his entire prime unlike the Helle, Saros and Sorokin deals.
@@MikeBartner Great.. give him a 1/2mil more and he's the 4th highest.. and the 3 above all have carried their teams to the finals (2 of which have cup rings).. and they all got them as UFA's.. as an RFA... you don't have the best bargaining position. Personally, take a bridge deal to get you to UFA then cash in.. but he must have a Boras like agent... let him sit.. (Sabres fan.. I'd love him to sit out)
0 respect for Swayman for this. In no world does he get Hellebuyck money without Hellebuyck credentials. I hope he sits out this season. He needs to be humbled.
Hellebuycks contract isn't going to age well, truth be told it wasn't good the moment he signed it. Just the goalie market that off season was ice cold. The cap is going up. Regardless of his skill, his contract won't be the bench mark moving forward. Not once igor shesterkin gets the like 12 Million aav or so his contract is reported to be in the neighborhood of. Which is probably what swaymans agent is holding out on that being announced. With the leverage boston gave swaymans agent by trading ullmark before they had anything near done with swayman, and Igor getting huge bank. It's going to give swaymans agent all the leverage in the world to push for 9-10 million a year. Boston is just using the UFC's tactic of trying to use the fans pressure by painting the one they're negotiating with as the bad guy, to get the fans to pressure them into signing the deal. Which is kind of dirty to be taking the negotiations public.
Bruins management talking shit about sway to the media sure as shit wont help the situation also swayman is younger than the other goalies who have signed 8 year deals recently like saros
Perhaps part of Neely's motivation was to kill off the narrative of the lowball offer floating around. This strategy could backfire, as it might make Swayman even more pissed off than he is already. Maybe they can settle on 8.5 x 7, but Swayman may now want a much shorter term than 7 years. At any rate, B's need to figure out something, and fast (Korpisalo? seriously?)
I don't know why Swayman deserves more. He's never been a starter. You don't even know if he can handle the workload of playing 55+ games. So you're mostly paying him that amount of money for 1 great playoff performance? Way too much uncertainty to pay him more than 8 million.
Swayman is playing it smart to hold out to get a little more. Of the 146 goalies who have played in the past 3 seasons he ranks 6th in goals saved above expected. Ullmark was one of the few that was ahead of him. Now that he’s gone Korpisalo will be staring. Korpisalo ranks 141st in that same time frame. They are likely gonna feel that difference no matter how well they play in front of him.
@JeanJames-ff3wx Well Laine injury is "Very Serious" Which means in which case we can put him on LTIR and trade like a 3rd at next off season for swaymans rfa rights.
A repeat of the Nylander situation when he was an RFA, with the same agent of course 😬. Nylander also stated that he found it difficult to get going once he returned, and regretted holding out. If this is a similar situation, it’s gonna be tough for the Bruins this year.
I appreciate Swayman and his agent going to bat to get him paid as its good for the players and sport as a whole, but dude needs to realize that these next few years are by far his best chance to win a cup. Would you rather have an extra couple mil or a cup, thats gotta be the dilemma that gets him to cave.
I definitely think Swayman is worth 10x8. Would I want the Hurricanes to sign him for that? No, not at all. But he's definitely more consistent than Bobrovsky, definitely as good as Hellebyuck and Sarros, and you're not signing him in the middle of his prime. He's going to be better
trashing their superstars who want to get paid is the Bs way. They did it to Kessel, Seguin, Hamilton, Thornton and now Swayman. the boston media is complicit too.
Kessel was insane much like Swayman Sequin had not finished his entry level contract, they traded him because he fucked Hortons wife Thornton just signed a new contract so that eliminates your silly argument. Hamilton we just couldn't afford his deal. not enough cap space. Prediction, trade incoming
Idk about being the 6th highest paid goalie all time. All the goalies above him are better. But if the cap goes up to 100 mil during that contract it might be the right % of cap
Also I remember watching a video that showed how signing a goalie to 8 years is too risky. The stats say 3 years max is the ideal goalie contract. I think he shouldn’t expect 8x8 seeing as an 8 year salary derisks his earnings. 8x4 or 9x3 seems more realistic. They say 10% of salary cap should be spent on both goalies and 8 would leave 2 million for a backup with the cap raising but 8 years is way too long.
The top 3 goalies are just as valuable to their team as MacKinnon is to his. But centers make $12-14 million, and the top goalies are mostly making around $8 million. Goalie pay needs to go up soon.
Maybe the $64M is just right for Swayman but I’m guessing that he doesn’t want to commit to playing for a team that will likely be entering a rebuild while he’s in his prime. He knows he can get 8x8 from an ascending team.
A lot of this on swayman side is not brutal the arbitration process was on him last year, the franchise just ripped him apart to lower his salary as much as possible
You know, at this point I say trade Swayman the Bruins don’t need to build a franchise around him. They can find another goalie and no one expects them to win this year anyway get rid of him and see what they can get for next season.
i like it when swayman screws the bruins but i think its little too much now i feel bad for the fans he should resign with them but hes too damn greedy and trying to put them bankrupty
@@sonofthgtrading away multiple players already on the roster just to accommodate one players salary increase by a million or two is beyond selfish The agent is also trash
@@Idkwhattoputhere24-m8v idk why you "love the drama" but that sounds like a personal problem. Go watch Mean Girls, or hang out at your local sorority house so you can gossip
These players are gonna go out a squeeze every dollar they can out of these franchises as they should, poor performance or injury before getting paid and it’s over the franchise kicks you to the curb. So get paid while you can
