I started in automation in 1978 working for Allen Bradley. The original PLC was primary, PLC2 was just comming out, and PLC3 had not yet been released. No HMI, recording programs on a cassett deck, some terminals for plc3 weighed in at close to 50 lbs. But the greatest thing that is a constant, that you can build and learn on, are the basic control concepts, and understanding how equipment works, and what you can do to make it better. Get experience in multiple industries. Food, material handling, chemical, steel, etc. Cross industry experience really helps.
I actually had the opposite approach. I didn't care about my grades but more about what I was learning. I struggle to learn while taking notes. So I didn't take notes but the notes were needed to study for the test.
Hello my name is David I work as a technical recruiter for Flextronics. We have job Vacancies for Automation technicians at Flextronics, Austin TEXAS. send a dm if you have 4years+ experience in the field. Military personnel with PLC technical training are encouraged to apply. Associate Degree in related field is a plus. Staffing for over 40 positions - both contract and full time Relocation assistance available for full time positions.
It is always easy to find people who can program and service PLC. It is hard to find people who can make it from scratch. Select best combination of HW, design automatic cycle from blank, make it safe and user friendly and then write the code without mess and readable.
I only went to a 2 year school and got an associates degree. For most of my career I have been an industrial maintenance technician. But had always had automation as a hobby. I now design, build, and program control systems for machinery in a Nissan manufacturing plant in Tennessee. I do not do so much of the HMI, but mainly the ladder logic side of the equation. Often PLC code written by guys who have more education than practical experience are much more hard to troubleshoot.
@@ricmen1890 I went to ITT Technical Institute. I got an Associates In Applied Science degree in Electronic Engineering Technology. But I was an electronics hobbyist and an Industrial Maintenance Technician. For a few years before attending school. I was 29 years ols when I went back to school.
@@josepheccles9341 that's funny, I was 29 when went back to school for associate in Electronics and now 7 years later I make 3 times what I used to make . Now I'm thinking do I go for engineering or just cruise where I am

can you please tell something more about what are domains available for an BE student ? and which subjects one should focus more related to their domain?
This is great advice. I have a good GPA but sometimes I feel like am falling behind sometimes and this is helping me focus on the practical skills needed for a good job!
Sir can u suggest few courses which are available on coursera Or any similar sites for automation engineer which are beneficial for them to gain more knowledge.
Please, it’s called experience and when you get some, you’ll reflect and realize there’s always room for improvement. Field experience with panels both new and existing help to develop practical approach to applications.
Agree with you to some extent and also disagree. My experience says thats its more about going out of the box which is rather difficult for every student. But i might say that i am rather lucky when it comes to making plans and constantly adjusting. Most of students doesnt make plan on the first place and dont want to inquire. A curious mind leads you very far in life ❤
Feel interested in automations as a production executive, dont have automation engineering but with food science background , is it able to join automation career?
Can you please tell what are the things one must know as a fresher that could be asked in an automation job interview?? It would be very helpful if you make a separate video on that!!..
I am become control engineer I am in 4 sems Which subject is more prefere knowledge like. Digital electronic, analog electronic, signal and system, control system, measurement, sensor and instrument.
Thank you so much for the priceless advice. However, I would like to get in contact with you, would it be possible. I am aware of your tight schedule, hence I would perfectly understand a non positive reply and will still stay tuned.
Sure, you can contact me. Sorry to take so long to reply. I don't look here so often. You can Email me at joestechsvs@yahoo.com Let me know what you are interested in talking about.
Dude, just found out your channel 3-4 days ago, love the content, Thanks for making such information available on this platform, (Just a request, can you please don't add those sound effects in the background? Those makes the content "childish" and just doesn't feels good)
1st rules would be to have the hands dirty = field , field , field And how old are you by the way ? You look like 30 ? You still have things to learn and test !
Really Nice ... Sir, i have completed BE - Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering in 2019 , now i am doing Industrial Automation course , i am looking for an Automation Engineer Jobs in Abroad. How to get jobs in abroad from india ? Kindly guide and Advise ....
@@et.sachin thanks for ur reply bro , No, i know first we need work experience but but during that period i want to know how to get Automation Engineer job in abroad
@@asirbaskarmani2246 I just completed my BTech haven't done automation course yet. I think it's really hard for us indians to get job in American/European countries, But I'm guessing it would be easier in middle east countries.
Depends on your skills. Is good to have some combination. PLC, HMi, hw error debugging are the basis. Then is good to have skills in robot programming and vision systems. When I started when I was 20 years old I accepted low salary for 6 months and after I prove myself I get to full. I thing in EU no problem.
@@josefmokry9976 Nice to hear u , now I am 23, last 2 yrs I worked as sales executive then decided to do course in Industrial automation and now I completed it. as u said I will get work exp and knowledge , definitely I will try to get jobs in EU.
