Be kind to yourself 🙏🏼 Don't set unrealistic goals, give yourself the grace and space to be human. The last two years have been hard, it may take time to recalibrate. And make sure you think TWICE before deciding to run a half-marathon 😂
If you do decide to set some goals for 2022 though, here's my humble advice. Take a deep dive with me as we explore the motivation and psychology behind goal-setting.

Hi Maryellen, thank you for the video. I suppose you've read up on shin splints and seen that it's more prevalent among women, and that they are more likely to progress from shin splints to stress fractures, partly because women have a greater incidence of diminished bone density and osteoporosis. I do not regard Wikipedia as a source of "the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth", since articles are often biased, but their article on shin splints seem quite informative, and it's easy to read. "The [stress] impact [that causes shin splints] is made worse by running uphill, downhill, on uneven terrain, or on hard surfaces. ... Individuals should consider running on other surfaces besides asphalt, such as grass [or raw earth], to decrease the amount of force the lower leg must absorb. Orthoses and insoles help to offset biomechanical irregularities, like pronation, and help to support the arch of the foot. Other conservative interventions include improving form during exercise, footwear refitting, orthotics, manual therapy, balance training (e.g., using a balance board), ... and calcium and vitamin D supplementation." I found out that it's better to get Vitamin D naturally in the form of some kinds of fish such as sardines, but if you do take a D3 supplement, it's better to take too little rather than too much, since Vitamin D excess could cause kidney injury and even kidney failure. Excessive thirst could be one of the signs that one is taking too much. Both Vitamin D deficiency and Vitamin K deficiency could over the long term lead to osteoporosis. Vitamin K deficiency is more likely if one consumes a considerable amount of herbs or foods that have a blood- thinning effect (for example Passionflower or Red clover). If I notice that capillary veins in my face are becoming more visible, I take some K2 capsules (better absorbed together with something oily). Only I don't take a Vitamin K supplement together with a Vitamin D supplement, since I've read that if I do that neither of them will be properly absorbed. Please do not take cortisone injections (the Wikipedia article recommends it among its treatment options), since cortisone is very bad for you, disrupting hormonal balance, weakening tissues by shutting down collagen production, and having a detrimental effect on thyroid function, amongst other things. Another thing that could contribute to osteoporosis, particularly in women, is a chemical called Triclosan, also known as Microban, an antimicrobial agent found in a wide range of products, including some soaps, toothpastes, mouthwashes, and hand sanitizers, sportswear and even toys. It's a toxin and hormonal disruptor. For a long time I was ignorant of this, and developed osteoporosis as a result of using such a toothpaste for many years. Thanks to the grace of God I've recovered from that. I love the idea of running myself, it's wonderful to feel as though I'm flying. I haven't had much time and opportunity to get that form of exercise though. It's OK that you've decided you don't enjoy running enough to run a half-marathon -- I would never push myself that much. Enjoying it is much more important. Another exercise option that is lower-impact and might be fun indoors is using a Bellicon rebounder, which is the Rolls Royce of mini-trampolines and much kinder to the joints (and more pleasant to use) than most of the other brands. In case you might be interested, here is one video -- ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2mRE1cxvJz8.html I found it interesting that this RU-vidr (Arnita Champion) preferred the more tightly sprung ('heavy-duty") Bellicon rebounder. It provides a more stable surface. Just be careful not to slip on a wet trampoline! My brother badly injured an ankle that way (on a conventional large trampoline). I wish you all the best with your endeavours Maryellen! PS. I do not regard Oprah as a wise mind myself, since she is an anti-Christian New Ager who does not care for what the Bible says. PPS. Sorry! Keep in mind that magnesium deficiency also contributes to osteoporosis, and ironically magnesium is a mineral that is very easily depleted by stress, including stress in the form of physical exertion. Strength for you Maryellen -- bon courage!

Thank you for the lovely video! Very perceptive/astute -- "social constructs .. external approval" -- true. We need to think about things. Love the way you talked about it -- helpful and a pleasure to listen to.

@@MaryellenHacko Thank you Maryellen, appreciate it. I'm a simple person who discovered some things by going through trials and searching for answers. (Many thanks to God for that!) The Internet has been a boon and it's a privilege to be able to watch videos such as your own -- it's wonderful to be able to connect and learn, to be influenced and to share ideas. I appreciate your wit, kindness and humanity. I'm grateful for the value I've gotten from your channel!
