a saddle sniff of the most recent iteration of my cantilever modded relaxed grav dad bike on a pleasant summer afternoon at the bottom of the Connecticut River. Artist: Fluisteraars Song: De Kronieken van het Verdwenen Kasteel
Love the rust and the faded bag and patina on the bar tape. You can tell that the bike gets used. It's a happy bike, not relegated to a barn gathering dust. Whenever I see a bike that I haven't ridden in a while I can sense its sadness and I feel compelled to take it for a spin.
So good! You're a wild man with that front tire clearance. The roadini's have my favorite headbadge of all the rivs. Been excited to see more of this bike since it started showing up in the background of the blog
thanks! I haven't had to use that trick on any other bike, but a JIS 103 taper wasn't short enough for these and the 102 ISO taper was just the ticket --- sucking them in that much more. works like a charm for 3 years plus of riding now
Probably my favorite video you've made. Side note: currently flexing 4sheets in rear 6sheets n front, on my 90s Raleigh with 700x28😭 In my experience ultegra 6800 dual pivot calipers make your frame the deciding factor as they are not impeding vertical tie clearance
Fun video. I have the same frameset but it's a 2020 650b model. I've run 48s in it. A taught fit with tektro r559s. I hadn't even thought of attaching canti-posts. Good on ya!
This is the bike I want Riv to make. A canti post road bike for fat tyres. No one else does a long bike like Riv and I want something a bit lighter than my Sam.
Wondering about mounting cava race 39s or rose 42s on mavic open pro rims, shops and the internet seem to caution anything larger than 32s on these rims but I'm guessing thes sups have a similar inside diameter of 15mm or so? Wonderful bike as usual. Thanks for any feedback.
Ron! How would you describe the diff between the roadini and romanceur ? Geo are very similar. Wheel base is the same on some sizes and chainstay pretty close . Diff 700c vs 650 and trail. Which bike would you say is best for what type of riding?
hello, Ronaldinho. i know this is months old. i'm wondering how you got the Paul barrel adjusters to interface with your levers? did you modify they lever in any way? or did they play together easily? i recently bought a different 600 lever model and i have some paul levers. tested one of the Paul adjusters and couldn't figure it out. perhaps i'm too much of a noob
Enjoying your videos Ron. Just a friendly tip, for your panning and close up shots, record in a higher frame rate (60fps) and then slow down in post for some ultra kerrygold-tier buttery smoothness. Just make sure to adjust your speed to 1/120 vs the 1/50 while shooting standard 24 fps. Also you should give us a day in the life vid at some point. Cheerio from dreary new england.
yes it is. every one that I've tried to shift over 32t really ends up struggling. it works well in this application though. certainly one of the prettiest things Shimano ever made
My first video from you and I noticed right off the bat, cool demeanor looks being great shape with some almost weightlifter quads, saddle sniffer this guy is No poser! I do have a question for anybody that can answer though my friend was given this really nice custom beach cruiser that had a bell gel seat on it. I told him I'd go over there and look over it because I like to fix bikes. I took that gel seat off and boom of Brooks saddle but it had a crack in it? Long story long, is there a way to get it repaired? I told him what it was worth if he got it fixed he's not interested so I could probably get it for free.
As always, a sweet build…but tire clearance has burned me. 38’s on a 24IRD rim on a bike recommended for 35 + Michigan Gravel, which probably was gravel before the ice age but is now known as sand in other circles + rain = wall art in my case. Rondini’s steel stays and fork can probably handle a little rub Btw, Mars robusto’s are showing how robust they are…they haven’t let me down in the WI North Woods…chunky gravel forest roads, ATV trails which are really just grassy areas where there are no trees growing, single track and even all of the above with some sand mixed in…flawless
yes, I listed the artist in the beginning of the episode. its too foreign for me to remember, and the song title is about a paragraph long. thats how you know its good!
What kind of material have you found is best for shorts? I want to stop riding in lycra. What type of materials seem to work best? The cut off denim jeans for shorts seem a bit stiff to ride in or maybe I am trying to use the wrong type of jeans. I have been trying merino boxers. I just started using a brooks B17.
hello there --- yeah true denim looks the best, but like anything cotton and without built in stretch, it will dry rot and tear when using long term on the bike. I like my clothes to be very form fitting, so even more so when that's the case. a few of my friends just cut up stretchy women's jeans -- in the beginning of this video I am wearing those stretchy shorts by Ripton that are kinda sports specific. they sent them to me, and I like them well enough for riding -- the stretch is really nice, and they look pretty good imo.
@@ultraromance Thanks for this info mate. I'll do this. I am enjoying the freedom of riding with a frame bag and no lycra but had still been clinging to the chamois vibe. Our family including our 3 teenagers love riding and all have shimergo setups on their gravel steelies. Loving your vids. My wife still cracks up over your tyre video. Wilto riders from Aus.
Another fine video. I owned a Homer Hilsen for a while. I like Rivendale and I hope they're around forever, but I found the Homer overbuilt for me. Too stiff. Took a bit of energy to make it get up and go. Looks like the Roadini or Rodeo are better suited for lighter riders. Anyway, nice video.
Just stay on top of your true, don't ride in the wet, and stop the moment you sproink a spoke and you''ll be fine imo. If it ain't carbon, whatever. So long as it spins. Hell, my carbon XC bike gets less than the recommended 3mm on each side and so far my bike hasn't exploded. Great vid and soundtrack as per usual.
Can you make your content accessible by having actual closed captioning please? I'm Profoundly Deaf and the auto captioning sadly make it harder to watch.
Best movie on RU-vid!! Love it entirely ❤ Ive a couple self build steel bikes from the 70s but this bike....just a dream. What type of Cantlivers are those? Many greetings from Ireland
