Steve.. I could sit here all day and watch.. Thanks for your tips on tumbling especially the tin oxide.. I have "played" at it for 50 years off and on. But since I have started to watch I have taken a bit more seriousness in the effort.. I used to just buy what ever tumbling grit was out there not really thinking there was a difference.. and my results have gotten better. All my rock stuff is out in the shop and I have no heater out there so it is shut down for the winter.. You really have changed my mind about this hobby and made it more then just throwing stones in a tub and twirling them around till they shine.. thanks for making it much more interesting..
Hi George, Thank you for the kind comments, it makes it all worthwhile! I'm looking forward to hearing from you in the spring when you start tumbling again. ( though I think you should put on your long woolly underwear and get on with it.) Cheers!
@@thestonecraftingworkshop7490 well I tell you Steve.. you make me want to at times.. But I know I would just stiffen up after awhile and the old fingers and legs would whine about the cold.. But I still think of moving some of it here, in my little electronics lab.. just a corner mind you.. But we will see.. I was amazed at the difference in rocks from the beach's.. I will have to send you some pictures of rocks I gather in my back yard.. Because of the old ice age floods that took place 10,000 years ago we have rocks from all over the west from Montana to Canada in our yards.. Maybe I will whip out the old go pro and make a little ditty out of it and put it on my little you tube channel and send you the link.. I use my little you tube to send pictures and things to friends over seas.. Right now we are in the process of remodeling our kitchen.. Winter work.. I used to be a carpenter and can never stop fiddling with the house.. Well better go or this will turn into a book.. See ya on you tube my friend.
The grey stones are really beautiful, my wife often says I should not focus so much on translucent stones but look for more interesting stones. thank you for watching!
Every tumble is a lesson. Just when you think you know what your doing you get these little disasters. But some of my accidents lead to my favourite pieces
Hi Dennis, I really enjoy the trial and error bit of tumbling and I am never too bothered about failures, as you say each fail is a lesson, also I know I can just bung the rocks in again and get a decent polish. Thanks for the input, cheers!
@@staceysakkinen1270 The only reason I ask is if you are in the US you may be able to find a finer grade of Aluminium oxide polish, this is used by many US tumblers and should be cheaper than other polishes. Best of luck!
Enjoyed your video. Huge difference with the final polishes. I really need to order some cerium or tin oxide, since all I have is 1200 Al oxide that my grit bundles come with. Had to take a few months off tumbling for other things, but am eager to get back to it with winter coming.
Hi, I am pretty sure that most US tumblers use (and swear by) Aluminium oxide polish but in a much finer grade than 1200 grit. Sadly I cannot find anything like that here in the UK. I am a bit of a fan of Tin oxide but I am going to do a bit with Cerium as I am told it is also very good. Enjoy your tumbling and let us know how you get on! Cheers!
Hello, I am just starting and just starting to learn. Where and what should I buy for the whole process from grit to polishing. I wonder where is better to buy here. I live in England.
Hi Sergio, there is n one place for everything and it would take too long here to list all the suppliers. I will try to post a resources page on my website in the next few days and let you know here when its done. cheers!
I’m curious, he says he adds polish grit for every stage. Would that be the regular amount of regular grit for the stage plus some of the polish grit? I’m confused lol
Hi, I am sure I did not say that , I think either I misspoke or you misunderstood. I only use polishing powder at the final stage. If you can pinpoint the place where I said this (using the timeline) I will have a listen and then try to clarify what I meant. Cheers
