Apologies for the crazy shaky footage... I guess the XH2s is still not a GoPro. I think this is the last straw for handheld moving footage and from now will keep it to locked off shots.

Maybe I'm sensitive to jitters or something, I guess I prefer lower quality gopro footage than the higher quality but less stable one. Ultimately, it's the pictures that are worth seeing in their full glory and we have that regardless.

I like this series, its too easy to look at my pictures after going out shooting and feel bad about them when comparing with everything you see online, which is often so curated
@RoderickJMacdonald
@RoderickJMacdonald Год назад
Curation is an underrated aspect of photography. It requires both judgement (important for an artist)and detachment (important for humans). At least that is what I find difficult in curation. I also find that the effort to curate leads me to improved composition and attentiveness when shooting. As for sharing with others and their reactions, most people don’t care. They will be entertained for the duration of their attention span, and then move on.

A while ago I realized I was spending all my time editing pictures trying to make them look like the ones you see in travel magazines then I realized those aren’t real so I stopped editing pictures and I like that work a whole lot better I casually may straighten a picture up or a mega crop one but that’s really it

Hello Roman. Don't worry about video stability. Easily watchable. You did well carrying/handling two bodies. Really enjoying these videos. Thanks for doing the XT5 guide. It's very useful for alternative set up options to my own. Cheers John

Very relevant and a bit of a reality check. Some days if it weren’t for bad photos, we wouldn’t have photos at all. Coincidentally I decided to clean up my old image folders, 80% gone and my hard drive is absolutely loving the new ‘weight loss program’.

You have a much lower rubbish ratio than me! Do you ever try to analyse your duds to learn from them? If so it might make an interesting video, particularly if you can categorise problems, eg not paying attention to composition, inappropriate shutter speed or aperture, exposure range too extreme for the sensor etc.

Really looking forward to your jpeg recipes episode. The photos you took here already have the "Roman Fox look". I would like to know what recipe you used here. Funny you mention Rubbish Photography in your title again while you're taking such cool shots. Well, some people have the gift I guess. And London is so beautiful too. Well done Roman!

When I walk around London, I tend to take landscape/object/view images rather than people. I am always a bit nervous of taking people. I do notice a good percentage of your shots are in portrait orientation, is that a conscious decision, or just happens that way? For me, it is less than 10% are in portrait orientation. Of course we are all different with our photography. I do enjoy watching your videos though. On day, I might see you around the streets of London.

Hi Roman. Great video. Thanks for taking the time to create it. I noticed you shoot one-handed most of the time. Why? Is it not better to stabilise the camera with a second hand, or was it to leave the POV camera a clearer field of view? Thank you.

I don't find the "shakiness" to be distracting or displeasing actually. It's kind of realistic giving a sense of the hustle and bustle as long as it's not Blair Witch Project shaky!! LOL! Side note, at first when I heard that siren I thought you were in the U.S. because of the style of siren. #719, 720 and 721 were nice. I liked the architecture in the background. One thing I just haven't gotten the hang of shooting with the LCD on the move. I can do it for static shots sometimes, but I still prefer the EVF at this point. Gotta practice more! Thanks for this insight into the reality of street photography and getting "keepers". Have a great weekend Roman.

Great video because it is closer to what I do for example. I find I walk around in unfamiliar Towns etc. To see what I can find. You mention low hanging fruit - to you that may be because you naturally home on certain elements: light/ dark, shapes, people all combined in a pleasing way - I tend to do the same and end reviewing a Days crop of images and feeling dissatisfied. The question is what the alternative ? Avoiding the play of light, the contrasting shape ? I do not know. Thanks again for your thought provoking video

What makes the video even more authentic is that in the beginning you don’t even talk to the Camera while it is on a Tripod while using the 3 light technique in perfect conditions

This was a nice reminder that I tend to be too critical of my work which often discourage me from going out and take pictures. I just gotta take it more lightly and just keep shooting otherwise I will never be able to make a great work if I'm stuck at home complaining about how bad my shots are.

Wait so are you saying that the chest level footage ISN’T shot on a GoPro? Are you holding the X-H2s with one hand the whole time and the X-T5 with the other?
@snapsbyfox
@snapsbyfox Год назад
Yeah it was XH2s on a strap and I would hold it in the left hand when walking. However I won’t be doing this again as it’s way too shaky. So just gonna be locked off shots

A couple of your ones were very good. I'm useless at photos at the moment! I think it's because I've been redundant for a while and have a new, tough job upcoming. I peaked at the start of my redundancy, where I was like a light-hearted pixie at the beginning of the hot summer in London finding plenty of good shots. Need to get my mojo back :) I'm using the 16-55mm mainly and part of my is saying "buy the 33mm prime" but I think blaming the lens is a massive excuse.
@m47d48xt
@m47d48xt Год назад
A piece of advice which I have seen somewhere is to set the zoom at 33 or whatever and just leave it there all day. Might that help?
@mikefoster6018
@mikefoster6018 Год назад
@@m47d48xt I think I've worked out what the issue was. I transitioned to shoulder strap a while ago and since then my enjoyment's fallen. It feels like it's getting in the way a lot, even at full extension. I'm not sure the big 16-55 is ideally suited for a shoulder strap, in urban environments, bouncing around and digging into my back a bit. I'm now going back to my old sling bag and wrist strap combo, with a new adjustment so that the wrist strap 'takes up the strain' of some of the weight of the camera when I'm walking (I'm a big guy so can handle the weight of the X-T5 and 16-55 ok for a few hours like that ... but using the strap better should help). Looking forward to walking around with that adjustment :)
