Check out the smallrig 2247, does so that you can screw your speedbooster onto the cage, which is convenient because the camera doesn't turn inside the cage and it removes micro jidders from the lens when you focus, if there is any play between the speedboster and camera like there are for some people.

That hand grip likely doubles as an SSD holder. If so, I strongly recommend stashing your SSD inside of it to avoid cage clutter. The DockCase USB C to USB C Cable 3.1 Gen 2 (.7 ft) is a near perfect fit if you go that route.
@FrameVoyager
@FrameVoyager 3 года назад
My friend actually has one like that. This handle is not one that you are able to add an SSD into but that's a good idea for a further modification. I kind of like having it on top just because it allows me to quickly get to it if I need to. But you're right that it would probably help with cable management and compactness of the rig.
@timlapointe4067
@timlapointe4067 3 года назад
Yeah, I have the handle that holds the SSD. Love it! Keeps it even more compact. John's right in that his rig gives you easier access to the SSD which can be great for situations like something run and gun where your'e shooting and dumping quickly. That's the great thing about the camera, it gives you so many options!

I have been back and forward with v mount vs npf solutions and the more videos you see the more options you might consider but if travel light is your style i believe the v mount is a bit too much because even if you can see the screen you are bulding a big rig haha personal opinion. I have been working with my p4k for a year and a half now and one thing i notices is than half of my jobs i can do them with 3 npf 970 batteries they run for at least 3/4 hours each so if you don't want to use an external monitor you can use an npf plate the small rig one is really well made on the left side of the rig next where the connections are and use your mic position where your v mount it is, also you will gain more room in the handle as i don't like so much have that space full of stuff to operate. That could be my recommendation to travel light and run an gun scenario but it is just another one, everyone has their own evolution of the rig these days haha Good content my friend
@FrameVoyager
@FrameVoyager 3 года назад
I like that! I'll have to try that configuration at some point. I really like how it's built because of how it fits in my hard case. I don't have to take anything apart. It can be problematic how heavy it is with a v-mount battery but I can always take it off and let the internal battery run if needed. I've been able to, multiple times, shoot handheld for moving interviews for over an hour. But I've still found this easy to use when on the run, I just never have to think changing batteries for most of the day. But your rig makes total sense too! Like you said, everyone has their own variations of rig designs that they like and what works for them! I just wanted to share mine to give others ideas and to hear from others on how they design their rigs. Thanks for sharing!

hey nice content, subcribed for sure, been so useful and grateful to found ur channel ! I want to ask, about the shock mount on left side of your wood grip for audio, do you think that steady enough for run and gun shooting ? did you find any shakky noise or anything after shooting ?
@FrameVoyager
@FrameVoyager 3 года назад
Hey! Thanks for the sub! I've not had any issues so far with with it having any distortions in the audio if I use that setup. For me all the options that have it float always wear out over time and ended bending down into the frame from the weight of the shotgun mic. I like how it just locks it in place and keeps it from moving without adding any distortions for the most part.

hey man, I'm diggin the run and gun approach on the rig.. Now, since i see you also use Canon with the Viltrox, let me ask you, have you had any issues with the auto focus and image stabilizer, cause mine ain't working.. only the iris control works
@FrameVoyager
@FrameVoyager 3 года назад
Hey! Thanks! Good question. I have had some issues. For me it depends on the lens but I usually try and just use mft lenses. Easier and lighter and works natively with the punch-in focus and IS. Plus I've noticed the image being super soft and susceptible to odd glares and other issues. But this was only with some lenses.
@kristofferaarak6341
@kristofferaarak6341 3 года назад
@@FrameVoyager I have also noticed the image being super soft at times. Is this because of the Viltrox you think? Because I used the exact same setup for my gh5 for two years, but never had that problem. So I wondered if it was something wrong with my bmpcc4k. And it usually solves it to just crank up the aputure. But it doesn't happen all the time. Almost looks like the clip is out of focus plus being really soft. Never happens on my mtf lenses tho
@FrameVoyager
@FrameVoyager 3 года назад
Yeah, I'm going to be getting a meta bones to test out here soon and see if that makes a difference. I did shoot something for a client that I couldn't tell that the image looked soft the entire time until I'd open it up on a bigger screen. It's almost as if it had a glare from a light or something across the middle that made it look soft. It also could have been the lens I was using as well. I'm still trying to experiment to see if that's because of the adapter or the lens. I prefer to use MFT lenses with the BMPCC4K anyways because they tend to be a lot lighter and easier to travel with. I also think they hold up pretty good image wise.

Hey bro, I’ve just bought a black magic 4k for my first camera and I’m wanting to do run and gun promotional content jobs for festivals, events, hotels, music videos etc. I’ve now been reading about people saying that the poor auto focus capabilities of the black magic 4k makes it a poor choice for my line of work. It arrives tomorrow so I still need to play around with it and learn how to focus it on my DJI rs 3 pro gimble. Do you think it would be better to get something like the Sony fx3 or fx30 for its auto focus? As I’m worried that I could mess up footage because I’m in intense environments and haven’t properly focused whilst shooting. Loved the video :)

In my opinion, small rig is the cheapest option. For what they have, they are frequently the only option, or are cheaper than others (I'm looking at YOU Tilta). It isn't cheap to machine bullet aluminum and for the quality you get, I think Small Rig is the best value. I'd certainly rather spend more to get something that protects my gear and works well rather than saving money and getting stuff that breaks, or will if I drop something.

I don't always use them, but a lot of times if I'm out shooting run and gun, I like to have a last resort backup mic to pick up anything unexpected or at least capture audio if something messes up with a lapel mic. Though, honestly I'll use 2 wireless lapels at one with this camera too.
