5 reasons why the Omega Seamaster is a better watch than a Rolex Submariner. 210.30.42.20.04.001 www.omegawatches.com/en-gb/wa... DIVER 300M CO‑AXIAL MASTER CHRONOMETER 42 MM DIVER 300M 210.30.42.20.04.001
The Seamaster is a nice watch, I like the blue dial version best. Would I swap my 114060 for it though…honestly no I wouldn’t. The Submariner is classic, it’s top quality and call me shallow but I look down at the crown and it makes me feel good…ooo la la 👌
Nailed it 100% Andrew. I have the Bond no time to die.As you point out there is just so much choice with the Omega SMP. I just walked in to an Omega AD, picked out the SMP I wanted, paid the cash, job done. No messing around or silly games to be played. Great video, cheers.
Cheers Luke,,, the games,, the stupid games is massively off putting for sure!! Great watch you've got,,, the Seamaster is definitely just as iconic my eyes
6) No brand baggage. Many people buy a Rolex as an indicator of wealth/status. In the current economic climate, this can lead to professional/business entanglements, as well as problems on the street level.
Great video Andrew, I own both, the Rolex 41mm and the Seamaster 300m and IMHO, the Rolex feels more refined and luxurious while the Omega feels like a tank, more eye catching, more versatile for everyday situations and at the same time you have the sense of quality of a premium luxury product on your wrist at half the price, plus it's more fun to wear and not too serious like the Rolex is, that's why my Omega is getting the most wrist time. Enjoy your watches in good health and Keep up the great content my friend 💪⌚️🙂👍
Completely agree and find myself in the same situation…..don’t feel I’ll lose my arm when wearing the seamaster is also a reason it’s getting much more wrist time
Imo the Rolex submariner is the best looking dive watch, the seamaster is a really nice watch as well but the submariner is number 1. Below is a list of best watch for each category imo Dive - submariner Field - hamilton khaki Pilot - iwc mark and big pilot Dress - datejust, JLC reverso, cartier tank Chrono - speedmaster, iwc chrono
Except the Submariner Is also the most copied watch on the planet. I don’t know where you live but here in London you’re far more likely to get mugged by a machete wielding idiot on a moped if you’re wearing a Rolex than any other brand. So yes, the Sun is no.1 for being copied and making you a target.
Absolutely love the 300smp apart from 1 massive (to me) problem it's just gripping the bezel is so difficult. I'm looking into a 39.5 Po for that exact reason.
Thanks for the comparison… I think they’re both great watches for their own reasons. But when I wore the Sub I fell in love with it. Until then I’m happy with my BB58 blue. Now that’s an awesome watch for the money.
Am Chuffed that you have found your happiness with the White Smp300. The main thing that puts me off is the movement , personally think it would be better with the 8900 . Wow check out your Barnet now coming along nicely , does Sarah run her fingers through it yet Lol
The Sub is a great great watch,,, but for me,, there is some areas the Seamaster wins,, mainly what I've mentioned ~ also plenty where it fails as well
Some defo good points there certainly on availability and the fake issue. The only point really I disagree on is looks, but I guess that is subjective. I prefer the look of the sub particularly the 40mm ceramic maxi case model
Personally I love the blue dial seamaster(or as I call it the goldeneye, I have nick names for all or most of the SMP colors) and I love the fact that buying one with a different dial won’t be more then buying a basic one. Plus you get more features for half the price. I find the only situation the submariner would be better is in black tie
Just thought I’d add that as someone who is lucky enough to have a great relationship with my local AD, I was able to try on both the black Seamaster on Sunday and the 126610LN minutes later. Looking at the Seamaster on my wrist planted a whopping great smile on my face; it wasn’t as heavy as I imagined and the clasp didn’t look as huge either. Maybe that has something to do with me wearing a 45mm Garmin Instinct most days so the Omega looked smaller in comparison. Beautiful. I then decided to ask to try on the Submariner as I really hoped I would hate it and be happy with the idea of buying the Seamaster. Sadly it didn’t happen. The Sub was like meeting an old friend, incredibly comfortable and just gorgeous. Both watches are absolutely amazing and Omega have really upped their game with the SMP. I still haven’t decided what I want yet. It’s not an easy decision at all!! 😩
Great video, totally agree with all you have said. Had my final seamaster try on yesterday, I'm buying the white dial today before the next price increase on the 1st Feb. Got a healthy discount too. For my tuppenny worth I'd advise you always try a watch on. From the photos I loved the silver and the white was out of the picture. On the wrist my ranking was turned totally around, the white is the one for me, the silver left me cold. Thank you. Happy horology.
Sold my SMP , the side “wart”, the lume on the hands and the bracelet got on my nerves in the end. My bro has one though and loves it alongside his Speedy
Great review Andrew…..I’d happily part with £5k for a Seamaster…….if it was at least 43mm. I tried it on and at 42mm it just felt a little small given it’s a utility watch. But other than that it’s a pearl of a watch !
Couldn’t agree more, particularly on the is it a fake comment. Omega better value too.👍 If Omega brought out one with a nicely tapered bracelet it would kill the sub mariner for good.
Love your videos brother! Won’t say anything bad about the Omega you already listed the cons. As a proud Sub owner truly hope no one notices and if they think it’s fake even better. One bezel spin and you can immediately tell if it is. Omega has too many flaws starting with bezel, bracelet, hands and even the rubber strap I think look and feel cheap. Next gen should cut its thickness to 12.5. I would personally go for last gen Superocean or Pelagos 42 before any seamster
Cheers pal,,, appreciate the comment. Yeah the Seamaster has a couple of issues to tweak for sure Pelagos is definitely right up there amazing watch - the Superocean has the looks but needs an upgraded movement for me to be in the same league
The smp is a great watch as is the sub I’m happy to have both in my collection . However hands down my favourite dive watch on wrist is my bb 58 black dial .. I don’t wear any of my Rolexes these days they are in the bank . I don’t need Rolex on the the dial of my watch and feel I get as much joy from other more under the radar pieces . I got my Pepsi a few months back after an 18 month wait and was a little underwhelmed. A great watch but it’s only a watch and dosent give me any more joy than any other watch .. I think it dosent really matter what you buy very quickly it’s just a watch in your collection and nothing special . In all honesty I think if I had the journey again I would forget about being top heavy with rolex and omega . My bb58 and ranger and would be done and saved myself a fortune ..
100% agree, been honest have never really understood all the love for the Sub. Yes I know it has all that history etc. but the Seamaster looks better, much better in my view. Without a doubt the white dial is the one to have too. Yes it has its faults but they fade away compared to the plus points. Still cannot figure out why the Aqua Terra costs more but then I don’t work for Omega.
@@watchandrew great vid Andrew! I’ve both, the SMP300 white dial and The Hulk, between the two I like the Hulk for better, especially the color, bracelet and bezel, but I use the SMP300 every day, as the Omega is "more usable", who knows 😂
As a owner of both watches they are amazing at their own game.. cant really compare but most of your points are correct. Got to admit I love the white dial seamaster more than my black dial sub but if it was the black dial seamaster I would say Sub wins 🤩 ...in the end Sub would be in a safe deposit box coz its too unsafe to wear it in public while Omega can be worn everywhere everyday so from that point I would give the Seamaster the win.
i have a rolex 114060, the sub no date 40mm, and would like to get a 300smp. i just can't get over the two deal breakers of that watch, the hideous HEV wart and the bracelet. the sub is pure class!!
I thought I'm more inclined to sub than the seamaster. Then I imagined in an alternate universe where the sub is as readily available to buy and its value will drop by about 20% like any other brands. I actually will choose the seamaster because technically and logically speaking it's a better watch than sub.
In general - I disagree with the main premise - however, the fact that Omega experiments with different colors, designs/materials, and you can actually buy their watches has me coming around to this argument.
@@watchandrew Is it heretical to say that I'd love to see a GMT-variant, or 12-hour bezel variant, of the Seamaster? Slightly thinner, maybe .5mm smaller, slightly reduced lug height, no pressure release valve, but otherwise the same design language
Loved the video, but in the end, I disagree: Seamaster vs. Submariner 1. Availability ✅ 2. Variety ✅ 3. Looks ❌ 4. Appearance ❌ 5. Versatility 👔 (Tie) For me, the "Looks" and "Appearance" categories push the Submariner to the top. Looks - You called them out yourself and they all bother me with the Seamaster (Escape Valve, No taper on the bracelet (probably my biggest pet-peeve), clasp (no on-the-fly adjustment). And one other you didn't mentioned...the bezel...the scalloped bezel is not for me. Appearance - I think you called out only that people might ask whether it's a fake. Hmm. If I'm wearing an actual Rolex Submariner, not a problem and a testament to how classic and iconic what I'm wearing is and I'm wearing the actual thing. The Seamaster is awesome, but the Sub is classic and iconic even in its modern form and the Oyster bracelet make it edge out the Seamaster in my book.
The omega is very very nice watch they are very tuff and built extremely well and have a fantastic movement... but they are very common.. and they have like a toothpaste cap for helum escape..I prefer the planet ocean. A seamaster is nowhere near as nice a two tone submariner by the way nowhere near. I'd rather have a tudor bb58 or the new pelagos 39 the a seamaster or a steel sub. I think that's a more realistic answer to your question on the seamaster.
The Omega looks good but to me the bracelet is terrible. Also it does have a slightly cartoonish look to it in person. I can see the attraction but if I were presented with the 2 watches on a table, I'd reach for the rolex every time.
Mate, with your amount of experience owning both and still not 100% convinced I’d say (in a perfect world) Grab a BBB Sub and pick a colour on a SM300 and call it a day🤗
There isn't a perfect world mate 😆 that's why I pick as many faults with my Seamaster as I find things better than the Submariner!!! But it would make a great 2 watch collection
Yes I think the seamaster is superior, metas certified ceramic dial , I think it looks better. The sub is a classic for sure , but just a little dated in some peoples eyes . The seamaster is a modern design, open case back . Rolex has the name and is a fantastic watch. But personally I prefer the omega 👍🏻😊. Maybe in a perfect world we could have both lol 😂
@@watchandrew so is a trip to the moon 🌙 but I don’t think 🤔 il be going soon . Sub is nice, but I think 🤔 the seamaster is really top notch. If I had the chance of either without being able to sell them, I would much rather the seamaster
I’ve had the same Seamaster in Blue as my daily wear for a little over a year and it’s hard to take off 😂 I still dream about getting a Rolex in my collection though 😎
Think that’s an absolute fallacy.. the 50 phathoms of course is a an icon but in hand it is overpriced and very underwhelming imo .This is the principle reason that it’s never taken off and sold like the other iconic pieces .. 15 k new and tanks to around 8 k preowned . It’s the swatch groups ultimate cash grab ..
@@shattmapantz2969 honestly, if you have it on your wrist and compare it to a mass produced submariner for example, then you know what I’m taking about … I don’t talk about reselling prices as I keep my watches … but guess Rolex is going into that direction- prices every day dropping and there is tons of Watches available and they don’t sell …
If I had to choose between my Seamaster 300M and my Submariner, Omega goes and Rolex stays. It is so easy to get the Omega, and way cheaper . No way I would trade one ofor the other one...🤷♂️. Just my humble opinion.
I think the availability and cost are big factors/difference between the watches.... would the Sub still be so desirable if they were in the shop windows?
@@watchandrew If price is not an issue, I would say yes. The brand recognition and also how well Rolex keeps its value are very important factors as well for a lot of people. I am glad to have both. No reason to choose one over the other. Great video.
To be fair John,,, I never said the Seamaster was 100% a better watch - just the 5 points I mentioned,,,, the Seamaster is Better in those areas - let's not talk about refinement, claps, HEV, history or re-sale value 😆
@@watchandrew not having a pop mate . Just the whole my watch is better than your watch scenario . In my opinion is tiresome . Doesn't take away from your content which I enjoy 👍
I have a 2020 Sub and the white Seamaster. I reach for the Seamaster a lot more as it's the better looking watch especially on the Omega rubber. Also dead accurate and as well finished at the Sub. It's nice having the Sub in my collection but after the honeymoon period wears off I felt a little underwhelmed to be honest. Now if you want a real Sub killer get the Seamaster 300 heritage! I have the blue one and it's a stunning watch!!
The heritage is a beautiful watch!!! I know what you mean about feeling underwhelmed ~ I've felt the same after wearing a Rolex for a certain amount of time,,, it made realise it's just another watch.... an expensive, good looking, hard to get, beautiful watch though!!
There is nothing shocking. He must have worked hard, worked smart, and with some luck have some opportunities that come to him to make good income to afford these watches. And there are many people who have spent on watches much more than him.
the sub is the king always has been - but these 5 reasons do make it better - in those departments. I didn't really mention refinement, bracelet, clasp etc
Availability is the big problem. After years of waiting, I say bye bye to Sub. Even after that long of waiting. In the subway.. you are just another guy with the sub. Rolex sold so many watches every year that it’s a very common watch
Sub in my opinion is hands down a better warch ,than seamaster . Hate the helium valve . The bracelet is dog shit . There's a reason the omega is more readily available. Would rather have one sub than the whole seamaster collection. If people think my subs a fake I couldn't give a feck
@@watchandrew I would wear I seamaster mate. But if I had to pick one . For me it's a no brainer . We are all entitled to our opinion . Wear your watch with pride.
After having owned 3x new SMP 300 blue and silver dials both on bracelet and rubber I ended up selling all of them and now own the 41mm Submariner Date. The submariner is leagues ahead. The Omega SMP 300 1. bracelet has no tapper 2. Bracelet has borderline sharp edges 3. Clasp digs into wrist 4. Known clasp fault (mine got jammed and couldn’t take off) 5. Known external AR coating issues (mine after 6x months got damaged and not covered under warranty). The submariner simply wears better and is so much more comfortable. Not to mention the build quality and an icon that is much more versatile. Also, what Omega has done with Moonswatch is a travesty. And any prestige or luxury has been taken away from the brand.
There is a date window on Seamaster and there is not a lot of size variety of seamaster. I don't like oversized seamaster and date window on dive watch.
Rolex are definitely perceived as the better brand,, they are an amazing brand - but if we look at the heritage, history, sponsorship deals, build quality, catalog, etc etc is there 'that' much difference?
Yeah, It really is though in all aspects. Spec wise and Material wise it laps the the Rolex. The over all Engineering and tooling on the sea master alone tops rolex. The fact that anyone is willing to pay double retail price for an inferior watch just because its says Rolex and it is hilarious.
I guess if l listened to your advice I’d also go out and buy a 300M to add to my collection of Submariner 124060, Pelagos FXD MN21 and Pelagos 39. However after my AD allocated those 3 watches (Sub was a 4 month wait), l just don’t agree the 300M is a better watch. IMO Omega should reduce the size to 40mm / 12mm thickness and get rid of that HEV before I would consider it. Now that thd UK price is £5,100, it’s a bit overpriced.
Firstly,,, no one should listen to my advice 😆- I'm just some bloke banging on about watches in my spare time. I don't think I said the Seamaster was a overall better watch - just better in these five categories ~ the head to head between a Seamaster and Submariner would need to be more in depth - and you're right, the Seamaster definitely needs a few tweaks
1. As another reviewer on RU-vid wisely observed, you can’t mistake the Seamaster for anything else. You can spot it from across the room whereas a Submariner still looks like a bog standard dive watch with very little to distinguish it-looks wise at least-from a Seiko or an Orient. Or a replica. 2. The dial on the Seamaster is stunning with its different shades depending on which model you have. The waves give it character whereas the Sub is still the same vanilla design as it’s always been. 3. I firmly believe that when buying a Rolex a lot of what you’re paying for is brand prestige. The fact that I’m less likely to be attacked and mugged for my Omega in London is good enough for me. The fact that the brand isn’t as massively popular with celebrities and rappers makes it even more appealing to me. 4. The fact that walking corpses like Archie Luxury and Paul Thorpe criticise the Seamaster yet harp on about the Submariner like it’s cured cancer makes me appreciate it even more. Thorpy even said Omega were the Volvo of horology, so if Volvo went to the moon….. 5. Thanks to the great relationship I’ve had with my AD since I bought my first Seamaster in 1997, I’ve been told that once I’m ready to buy the 126610LN they’ll get it for me. But I am genuinely struggling to say that I like the new Submariner more than the Seamaster. If Omega were to just taper the bracelet slightly, as so many Omega fans are praying they will, and slim down the clasp slightly, I’d forget about the Rolex completely. I love the symmetry of the Omega too, moving the date to 6 o’clock was a genius move. They just need to sort the bracelet out.
What a great comment Matt,, thank you... made me giggle and was interesting also..... great points about the Seamaster but specifically the issues with the claps and bracelet are very annoying ~ the Seamaster could be a true world beating dominating watch if they tweaked a few simple things
@@watchandrew Thanks! I’m keeping my 🤞🤞🤞 that they will sort the clasp and bracelet out soon. I mean, look at the previous versions of the SMP. They’re iconic and the main reason I kept buying each new improved version was because it looked great and was oh so comfortable to wear. Except the 45.5mm Planet Ocean I had in 2008, but we won’t talk about that! 😉 So it’s a shame they had to beef everything up slightly. I’m not kidding when I say that I’ve changed my mind a thousand times over the last year about my next purchase, but I look at the design of the new Submariner and even with the slimmer lugs it still looks a bit blockish, but the SMP just glides. It’s all subjective I guess, but having had previous versions of both the Rolex and the Omega, I know they’re both amazing watches. But there must be a reason why I’ve watched the same Seamaster videos on RU-vid so many times that I practically know the script……. 😂
@@watchandrew by the way, I loved the way you referred to the clasp as “Chunky” in one of your previous videos. Your accent reminds me of some of my greatest friends I met at Uni…. 😁😁😁
