Well best of luck and I hope you get some rain when you are here. I used to fish it more when I first moved up in 2006, less so in recent yrs, just been fishing elsewhere. There used to be nets on it, but not seen anything in recent seasons.

Thank you Dave, yes I was extremely surprised to catch one in that river, it’s a positive sign and yes, Aug has gone very well for me for salmon for not that much time on the bank (there have been some tremendous Aug catches elsewhere like the Oykel looking in T&S this month). It has suffered from nets etc in the past, I just hope it shows there is a small population of them holding on in that river (it is mainly a sea trout venue). I passed the info onto the Rivers Trust, years ago like many places, these small rivers used to be full of salmon when you talk to older folks that have lived here for a long time. Great catch Matt. Well done. I catch most of my salmon in the sea when I fish for sea trout. Got a small grilse today on the ebb tide along with half a dozen sea trout. Great fun on light tackle!

@@mikef6114 thank you. That’s fantastic stuff Mike, that sounds like a great session you just had and no mean feat catching one off the Shetland coast. This week looks pretty settled and dry here so if I get out it’ll probably be on a loch for brownies i think, unless some unexpected rain arrives..

Also change your fly size for salmon throughout the day. My mate caught a belter double figure after reducing his tube fly down to a single hook fly slightly larger than trout fly size. I was amazed. I have yet to try this also but maybe in the next few weeks get back out.👍👍

Ha, yes my usual set up on burns/small rivers when finnock and sea trout are the target is a 5 wt, 6/7 for slightly bigger rivers (most of ours can all be covered by a single hander). I didn’t know there were grilse/salmon in that small river, in the past yes but wasn’t sure about now. Unless it was lost it is a small ray of hope I guess, and I was lucky to get a look at it. @@highlandfishingdiary8818 yes may have got a smell from another water and took wrong turn or maybe just maybe their there after all. Great to see. Our water they stop our salmon and take eggs and put the smolt into other river systems. Oh and block their original migratory route further upstream. @@weforever137 I was over near Beauly in July camping, that’s one engineered river with all the dams. Stunning area, the Beauly, Glass and Farrar and the River Affric. Best of luck for the remainder of your season 👍
