My second take on Mata Nui Rising - the somewhat cleaned-up verision 

1. Bionicle technically wasn't back, it's G2 2. G2 is now getting cancelled too. Such a shame, and it only lasted 1 whole year...

Zachary Jorgensen just because it was g2 doesnt meant it wasnt bionicle XD it was like transformers, are you going to say that titans return isnt transformers cus its not the same as g1? yeah i know g2 is cancled, and is by far the fault of lego and the bionicle team.

But too bad the movie was ruined by forgettable music, bland villains, and an Annoying Girl and an Annoying Short guy that makes Crash and Eddie from Ice Age look like Likable Action heroes.

I don't think the setting has that much to do with it. It's just a boring, badly directed kids' film with shoddy villains, annoying comic relief, unremarkable visuals and music, and robotic character designs that fly in the face of canon. The original three are bad movies too, but at least they're more fun, the music is great and the directing and visuals are ambitious and creative despite the awful CGI and some questionable character designs.

1. The villains weren't very good because they weren't the focus. I think the real focus of LR was Mata Nui discovering who he really is, and what it was like to not be in full power. 2. There were some good visuals, like the Ignika creating a body for Mata Nui, and the Great spirit robot rising. I agree the soundtrack wasn't as grand as the first 3, but "Bye bye babylon" and "Ride" are really good. 3. The character designs in LR are the best from all the movies. They look EXACTLY like the sets. A HUGE problem with the first 3 was the characters barely looked like the sets at all, to the point where some characters I didn't even recognize until later viewings. The movies are based on toys, they should look a LOT like the toys.

Among various things the reason I hate it is that it is incredibly far removed from the Miramax in terms of...well, everything regarding production quality. Look at the Matoran models used in it compared to the ones used in the MIramax trilogy. They had a completely different level of detail, with eyes that didn't poke out. As for your defences: "1. The GSR rising scene was primarily lifted from pre-existing renders, so that's not impressive. I also strongly contest any of the other suggestions being examples of good visuals. The sets are primarily a guideline on how they should look, but there are details completely missed out on. The Miramax trilogy took liberties in various places but those liberties were necessary to portray these biomechanical life forms as just that, rather than mere robots. If you couldn't see the similarities between the models and sets of most of the characters, I think you need your eyes checked. They weren't exact replicas but with few exceptions they were close enough. (Notable exceptions would be Nidhiki and Krekka, and the Kanohi of Teridax and Gali) Adding to this, the Agori and Glatorians are *biological* entities. The sets, again, are just approximations. At best they have mechanical implants in places (think Borg). "The movies are based on toys, they should look a LOT like the toys." That is an incredibly simplistic view of things and the same philosophy that caused TInseltown Toons to produce this garbage.

@@MrJoeyWheeler Bionicle revolves around the toys. It has been confirmed that the set designs came first, and then a story was written around them. The Bionicle movies should have accurately portrayed the toys, which is what the Miramax films did poorly. The kids watching should be able to see their toys on the screen and draw a connection between the movie and the sets.

They all moved to Metru Nui after the events of Mask of Light. the Bohrok were re-awakned to strip the island clean. So nothing died. Except for maybe some Rahi.

It depends on how you look at it; current scientific definitions would suggest it is not alive as it can't reproduce and doesn't abide by the typical useage of energy seen in carbon based life forms (needing to eat for example) But I think most would agree that once sentience, self-awareness and capacity for higher thought gets involved those definitions start to lose traction... it's that exact line of thought that will likely lead to a fight for sentient robot/A.I. rights in the future.
