The words guy and friend only reflect my pure protectors aka the alphas who are the only friends / lovers / bfs and the only men / guys / lads / boys / swains etc, friend being a love related term that means the exact same thing as bf, and such terms cannot be misused by hum’ns, and must be edited out, and pronouns can never be with a capital letter when referring to hum’ns, and the word dude must be used instead of guy / man etc - all love related terms only reflect me & my protectors, while love only exists for me and is only meant for me the only lovable being, and such terms cannot be misused in any way!

Anyway, I am trying to learn Italian and Latin and many other languages! But I don’t know why did they make so many different Italian-based languages tho! There are so many of these Italian-based languages, and now I have to learn them all, which is so overwhelming! It’s like, they tried to see how many ways they can spell a certain word, and made the different versions of each Italian-based word into different Italian-based dialects and languages, so it is like a test! But, at least Spanish dialects aren’t a completely different language (unlike the Italian ones) and only have a few specific idioms & words and the rest is just standard Spanish (thank dog) and, I am native speaker level in Spanish (and also know over 1.000 words in Latin) since childhood, which is why I can at least understand about half of the Italian / Italian-based words, so I could probably learn Italian quite fast if I focused on learning mostly Italian words for a few months! I want something to read. Vorrei qualcosa da léggere. (Italian) Vuless caccos ‘a leggr. (Neapolitan) Ia bolli cancua cosa di liggi. (Sardinian) I volarés alc di lei. (Friulian) Vogliu qualcosa à leghje. (Corsican) 😢 Mi hanno detto che arriveremo verso le ùndici. M’hann ritt ch’arrivamm pe l’unnc. M’anti nau ca eusu arribai accanta de is undixi. A mi an dite che i rivarín tôr undis. M’anu dettu ch’è no ghjunghjeremu versu undici. (they told me that we will arrive around 11 o’clock) I have = ho / teng / tengiu / I ai / eiu aghju and = e / e / et / e / è two = due / duje / dus / dôs / dui three = tre / tre / tres / tre / trè brothers = fratelli / frat / fradis / fradis / fratelli sisters = sorelle / sor / sorris / sours / surelle And these are just 4 of the other Italian-based languages, but there are, like, a lot more! 😭

There is also a Portuguese-based language I know of (Galician) that I am also trying to learn - there are just so many languages I want to learn, so it feels so overwhelming, and, I don’t know how to learn them faster! I am trying to learn all Germanic languages, and all Celtic languages, and Catalan / Occitan / French / Gallo etc, and a few other languages! I recently started learning Welsh and OId Norse and Breton and German etc, and I started learning Dutch / Norwegian / Swedish a few months ago, and am now a quite advanced level in Dutch (over 6.500 base words) and intermediate level in Norwegian / Swedish (over 3.500 base words in each) after only a few months, and I might also be able to learn Galician and Catalan and Gallo and Italian and French etc fast because many words are similar to the Spanish words in a way!

The secret is not a german language learning book seriously right? You agree? What it's really about is total immersion of that language. Just like he was telling people to do is deliberately build up the grammar, learning nouns, verbs,adjectives, etc.... When we were babies no matter what part of the world we were born in did not speak any language that was even slightly recognizable to anybody, especially our parents. We basically giggled,laugh, and cried. It was only when our parents and teachers taught us the language of the people around us. We learned by example and eventually became competent at the language everyone around us knew. Total immersion. Use Goggle translate to learn the language of your choice. Chose your native language and the language you want to learn. Make sure you're hearing the word, phrase, sentences spoken not just translated in text. A Tool that gives you a big learning curve. You will learn very fast this way.

I would say that some languages are very much entwined with certain kinds of gesturing. Italian is a very physical language, full of hand movements etc, while speaking Japanese is often accompanied by bowing your head politely etc. Culture and language are often not easily separable, especially if you have learned the language while surrounding yourself with native speakers.

I cannot believe how fast I learned Dutch tho - am now trying to get to a native speaker level, in both Dutch and Norwegian! I recently started learning languages on my own, like, just a few months ago - I don’t know why I never tried to learn languages in the past, and I actually learned Spanish in childhood (because I watched many TV series and movies in Spanish) without even trying! I’m learning multiple languages at the same time - so now I’m learning about 15 languages, but still kind of prioritizing Dutch and Norwegian and Welsh until I get to a higher level!
@FrozenMermaid666
@FrozenMermaid666 Год назад
I first attempted to learn Dutch in 2018, but sadly I couldn’t focus on language learning anymore, and then started watching videos and movies again and I kinda forgot about learning it, so I only knew about 100 words in Dutch and a few sentences before I started seriously learning it a few months ago - Flemish and Dutch are the same language actually, but it is referred to as Flemish in Belgium, and, in Belgium, there is also a dialect that I know of that is very differently spelled from standard Dutch, and could be considered a different (Dutch-based) language, kind of like Limburgish, which is another language that’s like a mix between Dutch & German, and, the three Frisian-based languages are also very different from Dutch, so, yea, I have so many languages to learn, including all Germanic languages and all their dialects (which are technically another language) and, it feels like it’s going to take ages to learn about 50 languages 😭 which are the languages that I have on my list of languages I want to learn and improve!
@FrozenMermaid666
@FrozenMermaid666 Год назад
By the way, if one sees a word 50 - 100 times, one should be able to remember it, even if one doesn’t use that word constantly, because one also doesn’t use all the words in one’s first language, but still has a passive vocabulary that far exceeds the vocabulary one uses every day or every week etc! For instance, I haven’t used Spanish in over a decade, and I learned it in childhood, but I haven’t forgotten the words - Spanish is like my 2nd first language, in a way, because I know over 10.000 base words, which is native speaker level, plus I know a lot of idioms and specific dialect terms from all Spanish-speaking countries! I know 60k to 100.000 words in English + Scots dialect + Middle English combined, which is writer level, which makes sense because I am a lyricist / writer, and most of those words are part of my passive vocabulary, actually, and I use most of those words mostly in lyrics and certain other writings etc, and 5k to 10k words I use more often! In Dutch I learned over 6.500 base words, and trying to get to a native speaker level (over 10.000 base words) faster, and then I want to get to a writer level in Dutch as well, and also in Norwegian and Welsh etc! I actually noticed that once I reached a higher intermediate level in Dutch, I started remembering new words even faster, including words that are related to a word that I had already learned and compound terms, and, I also remember new words in Spanish (that I am learning now as I’m trying to get to a writer level in Spanish) extremely fast! So it’s usually the beginning (when trying to learn a new language) that is the most difficult, and then it keeps getting easier and easier, and once I knew about 5.000 words in Dutch, I kinda started picking up a lot of new words and phrases naturally from context and I started remembering most of the new words even faster!

When I decided to learn Japanese I got -"Yeah, you`ve been weird all your life, haven't you?" -"It is so impossible, why do you even try" or my favourite -"If you gotta study a useless and impossible language, at least study Chinese because that is where the money lies" When I decided to study a year abroad in Japan the same shit intensified. As I am now back in my home country - you won`t believe it - people try to discredit what I did. - "Wait, you are not fluent yet? So all you did the last years was in vain, huh" - "Well, it was not that hard to get there. All you needed was money." (Which I worked 3x nightshift [12h] at a petrol station for one almost 2 years and it was def. not the only thing, but okay) My point is, just like Raff`s: Fuck what they think and do your shit. My theory is that it is self-projection. I only get this shit from people who lack passion and ambition for something they desire and mostly follow "the norm", if you get what I mean.

I do believe that learning different languages does improve your capacity to comprehend things since each language carries with it an entire body of knowledge and memetic coding that pretty much helps to shape the way you think. Are you Chinese? because I don't understand what you mean by "Skimming over the word "ren", that I should pronounce it less intensively? At university they taught me both "认识你很高兴", and 很高兴认识你 are fine, my teachers are from Beijing. "Instead of 你的老家在哪儿,we say 你老家是哪里的" thank you for that. The sentence about me watching a film in Chinese everyday again was taught to me by a Chinese, and I then found a Chinese youtuber who teaches English who says it exactly the same way as I do, so I can actually prove that to you, if you want I can give you the link to her video where she teaches that exact same phrase the way I say it. Though I would point out an important difference: when you learn languages which are closer to your native one you don't really need to spend time on grammar - it is better to jump straight to learning vocabulary and practicing, as the grammar system would be very similar. For instance, it took me, being a native Ukrainian speaker, many years to become fluent in English and get a proficiency level, while I just learned Russian reading books and watching movies and youtube videos. Now i am doing the same with Polish. You can then come back to grammar in the end, when you get a grasp on the language - to study specifities. I am also learning Norwegian and it is way easier due to the fact that I know English and a little bit of German, as they are all Germanic, hence, similar in structure and roots. However, learning Mandarin is way harder for me - I have started 9 months ago and even though i practive every day, I am still on the basic leverl and mainly work on pronunciation and listening(learning pin-yin). How I will transition to reading and writing is an open question to me.

Sounds like a great technique. I've always had an interest for languages, so I've tried learning a few. I'm Norwegian, Norwegian is pretty similar to Swedish and Danish, thus I know three languages fluently. I'd say my English is decent, and I also speak a little Spanish and French. Recently I've been learning mandarin Chinese, and it's going pretty good. So that's seven languages! The technique I use involves using the bathroom mirror. I put post-it notes up on the mirror with phrases and words I want to learn, and so every time I end up in front of the mirror, I try to have a conversation with myself using the current words and phrases there. When I feel confident in using the phrases already there, I change them out with new ones. I find this working pretty good for me, and maybe it will benefit someone else to try this out too.

@InfernosReaper
@InfernosReaper 2 года назад
It doesn't help that the pronunciation rules for English basically don't exist. Everything has to be taken on a word by word basis. Even as a native English speaker, I find it infuriating. I suspect literacy rates would improve considerably if spelling and pronunciation rules were standardized.
@lewiitoons4227
@lewiitoons4227 2 года назад
@@InfernosReaper the reason it can't really be standardised is due to the overstandardisation, the only solid rule in English grammar is that there is always exceptions 😂
@InfernosReaper
@InfernosReaper 2 года назад
@@lewiitoons4227 no, they can making *spelling* rules actually be consistent. they just refuse to. it's not even that hard. --no silent letters --single vowels have 1 pronunciation --2 vowels have a different one Ideally, adding in a few new letters to cover the remaining vowel sounds would be nice, but will have to settle for vowel + vowel combinations for that due to existing keyboards and printing methods. Maybe vowel + another set letter could work. it's a pity really, because I'd also love to have letters replace "sh" "ch" "kw"/"qu" "zw" & "th" maybe also "ks"/"cks"
@lewiitoons4227
@lewiitoons4227 2 года назад
@@InfernosReaper it has been standardised but English has a nasty habit of changing alot in a little time not to mention the main reason for the huge dialectal shift in Britain at least is from populations simply refusing to accept the newer standard, for example I can type in standard English but struggle speaking it for my Scots vocabulary which is more akin to old English with the vowel system etc so I don't really think spelling reformation would do much and alot of the common spelling reforms get rejected because of the ambiguity again most of English' current problems come from previous standardisations like the silent letters you speak of are either there for etymological reasons which Is common in all languages, that'd why the "ê" exists in French and why alot of Spanish words start with a H
@InfernosReaper
@InfernosReaper 2 года назад
@@lewiitoons4227 No, it never really was standardized *spelling*. That's the problem. There have been efforts made to do things like make the language conform more to Latin(which is why we get weird things like "island"), but no real effort to standardize spelling As for your example, that's because you're leaving the realm of *English* and going into a mashup of that and another language(which you already should know about, because Gaelic. yes, even though it's mainly spoken in communities that are rife with incest, it still influences the dialect considerably)

One thing I just found it really interesting: I've been studying Italian (as long as Latin) at school. That's nice. As a Scandinavian knowing German as well as Portuguese and Spanish I noticed the same. Danish, Norwegian, Swedish are all quite similar. With some difficulty we can usually understand eachother. German is more distant to us; we can understand a bit but would need a translator to speak with eachother. Italian, Portuguese, Spanish are all quite similar. With some difficulty they can usually understand eachother. French is more distant; the four can understand a bit but would need a translator to speak with eachother. Knowing Portuguese and Spanish I as well can understand a good deal Italian when written or if they speak slowly. English, though being a North Sea Germanic language, seems like a a mixture of them all: Latin, Saxon, Danish, French. My friend tells me it's the same with the languages of Southern China, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand. He's learning them all.

from my experience (native Italian), it is very hard to achieve a high level of proficiency in German (e.g. writing properly in formal business situations or at an academic level), but becoming able to communicate relatively clearly in everyday situations is something manageable. Personally I sometimes still make some mistakes with articles, prepositions or Akk/Dat, but overall the message normally gets across without problems.

As an EFL teacher, I can confirm this is golden advice. Language isn't something you learn through good instruction and a brain that's smart; it's something you learn through diligence and and a brain that's convinced. The biggest step for me was choosing to communicate instead of avoiding. Russian was easy because it was necessity. It was much more difficult to have conversations with a deaf, elderly gentleman in Spanish sign language, learning on the fly, or to try reading labels in Georgian or Ukrainian instead of Russian or English. It's the step of letting go of your ego long enough to make mistakes, but short enough to avoid repeating them. You've inspired me to take up my Georgian studies.

You're so smart. It just radiates. Amazing. I'm learning latin and Spanish. I'm more proficient in Spanish and basic in latin. I speak English as a native. I need to become fluent in Spanish since it's very popular here and important. Latin just for fun but I'd like to become proficient. You've perfected the accents in the languages you're learning. That shows true understanding and proficiency. I understood all ur Spanish. I do ur method as well. English was once not my native language. It was Russian. When my mom taught me English, she would walk me through the house and point to items and ask me what it was. She made it fun. I become fluent in English in 6 months. Granted, I did live in America as well. Point is ur method works and you can make it so fun.

Who said I can't read Chinese? ;) 我会读 :p You wrote: 小朋友 xiao peng you (little friend, usually used for children you don't know the name of), 他 ta (he, masculine form because it has the radical "person" instead of "woman") 不 bu (cannot/negative of verbs and adjectives, exception the verb to have which uses "mei") 懂 dong (understand) 中文zhongwen (Chinese, written, but sometimes used also for the spoken language instead of hanyu) 啊 ah! (exclamation) 你 ni (you, normal, formal version has "xin" as a radical at the bottom and is pronounced nin) 应该 yonghai (should) 用 yong (use) 英语 ying yu (English) 写出来 xie chu lai (write down/out) I know around 2.000 hanzi, I can't read everything, but I can normally read most things and when I don't know a hanzi I can just look it up on the dictionary. For your message I didn't need to look up any hanzi on the disciontary. For our xiao peng you's message there were just a couple of characters I didn't remember and I had to look up :)

This is some great advice!! I have a tip as well that's helped me with better pronunciation: study some basics of phonetics and phonology to gain an understanding of how different sounds are produced, by your vocal cords, mouth and nasal cavities, placement of your tongue etc.

Ciao Metatron! Great advice on learning a new language! I have 2 questions: In your opinion, for a foreigner which Italian dialect is the easiest to learn? I lived in Torino for a few months, spent some time in Venezia and in a small coastal town in Veneto called Caorle. Naturally, all 3 have a different dialect, but interestingly I found it much easier to converse with friends who were native of Calabria and spoke with a Cilentano dialect. I'm bilingual (Hungarian and English) and in school I did study standard Italian like everyone else, but I found it for a lack of a better word 'dry'. Those dull lessons totally killed the beauty of the language for me. So, when I traveled to Italy for the first time I was completely enchanted by the unique melody of all the different accents, intonations and dialects that I found in every place I visited. My second question is, how hard is it to learn to write Kanji? How long did it take for you to be comfortable reading and writing in Japanese? Learning to speak in another language by speaking with native speakers was always easy for me, but writing is a whole different ballgame! I have no problem speaking in full, short sentences in a new foreign language within weeks and I'm good with accents, but if you ask me to write down what I just said, I would be very hesitant.. How can I improve on that? Mille grazie! 💓

Thank you. This is what I do. Today, I was in West Los Angeles donating blood. I always engage people in conversations. Today, it was a radio station promotion in a blood drive and the young man was from Canada, so I switched to speaking French. It doesn't mean that I am fluent in French, just willing to make mistakes. At home, I ran through a lesson of Duolingo. A month ago, I was picking up a girl friend who was finalizing a car lease. The greeter had clothing characteristics telling me he was not from Los Angeles. He was from Hungary, so the language in common was German. Years ago, I spent 4 hours speaking to the late wife's relative in the hills of Sicily. Afterwards, I asked what language i was speaking and why. I didn't remember. All I knew was that I would keep trying to formulate words that I did not know. The answer was I was speaking Spanish as the relative had lived in Venezuela for 8 years. NO, I am not fluent - just willing to make mistakes.

Oh my god! I've fallen in love! I'm fascinated by language and excited by language learning. I'm learning Italian at the moment, slowly. I wish I'd started earlier and tried more languages. My first language was Japanese. My second was English, which I spoke with an American accent until I had to learn a BBC accent to be accepted in 1950s Melbourne's eastern suburbs. I stopped being bilingual and dropped the posh accent in order to survive the school ground in the outer suburbs. I learnt to be a chameleon. In high school I studied French for six years, but can't remember much. I grew up refusing to speak English, which is apparently not uncommon for immigrant children, but continued to understand Japanese as my parents' more interesting conversations were conducted in their strongest common language. In my 40s decided to go back to university to study Japanese - spoken and written. I was annoyed that everyone had come to embrace Japanese culture and were learning Japanese and frankly, I was bitter, feeling I'd been robbed of my mother tongue. You might imagine it would have been easier for me than my classmates, but interestingly it was not, at first. It was so interesting - the speaking part of my brain could not utter a word no matter how hard I tried, but the comprehending brain that knew how Japanese should sound, kept saying (in English) "No, no no! You stupid, stupid person." Very discouraging. I felt a bit crazy with two voices arguing. "OK. Tell me what to say", but the comprehending brain didn't have command of the vocal chords and tongue. So interesting - I almost felt the neural network rearranging itself in the weeks that followed. And then the intuitive knowledge of sentence structures etc kicked in, and it was a joy to be able to talk to my mother in our native language.

7:40 I studied the language many years ago, and I was surprised at how much I understood. I really could get a good grasp of what you were saying! I, however, would be unable to reply. (I truly need to pick up my language studied again. I love learning languages. Why did I stop??? Seriously, what is wrong with me?) 12:53 I will totally try this for Welsh :D Thank you Byddaf yn ceisio dysgu Cymraeg 15:30 I'm a Welshwoman and I understand your English perfectly, you speak English better than some Englishman I know. It is very impressive. My knowledge of Italian is purely music based. (Allegro, Crescendo, Piano, Forte, etc, etc). If I was to learn Italian I would first need to work on sentence structure, I think. It is certainly something I will do one day. First, however, is Welsh. It is the native language of my country and I don't know it. Unacceptable, I say!

I am 51 yrs old now and so glad I found this video after discovering your channel for the first time yesterday. Normally, upon a new subscription, I begin watching from the oldest moving forward. Helps me learn how the channel owner has progressed over however many years it's been produced. My last foray into foreign language was high school French class for only 1.5 years. I had to quit part way through verb conjugation because it couldn't sink in. Now, fast-forward from 17yo, I now have a dear friend in Romania and I hope this technique of yours will help me and I suspect it might since a college teacher of mine was helping me with another elusive concept and after class made me repeat it continuously until I was angry and sobbing. I've never forgotten that little tidbit. Wish me luck and thanks. Aszneth PS: figure out the origins of my name and you get one virtual hug. 😃👍🤗

Yes, the same happened to me when I came to The Netherlands. The Dutch people will always say that it was difficult to learn their language and were not really encouraging. Today I speak it. It is all a matter of practice and not to listen to people who think they are the only ones who can do it and you can't. Good video!
