MY SECRETS EXPOSED ON THE 100LB Bow Build 

I know you made joke of dying early from not wearing a mask. As a automotive painter for the last nearly 30 years I can tell you from experience that the folks that I know personally that never wore masks, most of them are either in bad shape now or dead in their 50's. And just as a side note the last friend of mine that died was in excellent physical health as well as being a body builder as a hobby, but the chemicals he was exposed to gave him cancer that he didn't live through. I'm not saying it is always the case, and I am guilty of not always wearing a mask. Just keep your health in mind, you do have a family. Love here from the USA

That’s one of the beautiful things about archery. Both bows are very similar just one is heavier but yet feel like totally different sports and are treated that way. The diversity of the archery world is incredible.

FYI ! Watch it, that can give you a shoulder impingement. It's a terrible thing and mine lasted over 8 months. Couldn't lift my arm parallel to the floor or hold much weight. Finally worked it out and can now shoot my 45# bow. I don't dare test my shoulder with any more than that, especially after all that discomfort. Unfortunately, my good friend is suffering from the same thing and he's had it for 6 months now. It's easy to over do it.

In case you haven't tried it, bicycle tire inner tubes cut into two strips make for great wrap clamps, and free so even cheaper (and upcycling as well) than your nylon string. Or if you have tried inner tubes, what did you like about the string better? Thanks Bert

Had a $700 longbow blow up on me after having it less than 2 weeks and waiting a good 9 months for it to be made and be shipped. Was supposed to be 50# @28” and it blew up mid-draw. I still had the arrow between my fingers and hadn’t even let the string loose when it happened.

When stringing the bow, a hack for the "step thru method" is to have the bow handle perfectly centered on the back of your leg, step slightly forward with the other leg that is against the lower limb at the same time you bend the upper limb. This will put more even pressure on BOTH limbs so you don't over stress the top limb and risk breaking or twisting the top limb.

Very well made bow, great job! You were correct when guessing that you had bad technique with drawing that bow. While you did raise your bow up like a heavy bow demands, you lowered it right back down before really even drawing the shot, and particularly your drawing arm shoulder and elbow got even lower when you leaned forward, and it hurt your ability to draw the bow. With a heavy draw you usually wanna lift that bow high, drawing it back and down in one continuous motion, almost mimicking a pull-up so you can engage your lats as well and the rest of your back, it's also good to lean forward while drawing a heavy bow, but it isn't mandatory.

Maybe you should try the Chinese technique to string a heavy bow. It’s done kneeling one leg and you use the weight of your whole upper body to string it.

I think I have blood vessels on my bow arm that just gave up and relocated because of being slapped so much from hyperextending my elbow. Yes, the bowstring can find a way under the arm guard too.

Kramer... Consider this bow. I thought you might find it interesting. Might be some data you can add into your own experiments. Its a heavy draw bow, It was being drawn to 23 and 25 inches, It was firing 200 grain arrows (24 inch arrow for the 23 inch draw) (26 inch arrow for the 25 inch draw) Not sure, if it's intended for a shorter draw length, or the poundage makes a longer draw much more difficult (makes sense) We were studying recently, arrows, And learned the theory that there is a need for proper Spine, to tune the bow and arrow, for safe efficient shooting, And that there is a ratio, an ideal range, where the bow forces are most efficiently translated and transferred into the arrow, Lighter arrows, below the ideal range, stresses the bow leaving excess force in the bow Heavier arrows above the ideal range, drags the bow, moving the extra mass less efficiently, Of note, the heavier arrows would fire, if less efficiently, gaining diminish gains in 'impact force', as the curve swings to less efficient ratios. Supposedly. Conversely though, heavier arrows, within a range, can deliver proportionally higher impact force, despite losing some. Arrow speed. The lighter arrows, below the efficient range, lose more impact force, and gain less speed, as the mass decreases to extremes, Spine and tuning also become important within the efficiency matrix, as they keep the arrow flying more 'true', more straight, Mainting the efficient application of the shaft momentum, into arrow speed and subsequent impact. Accuracy, also, being positively affected by tuning of course. And we agree that fast or hard don't totally matter, if you miss the target. Anyway. How does removing material increase the draw strength?

Are you using gorilla wood glue for most your laminates now? Does it hold up as well as ea40?

Your technique is pretty standard for a beginner warbow shooter. You're pulling your elbow down. Which, when not using the proper back muscles, is the natural way your body finds to pull that heavy weight. It ends up using your tricep for a lot of the work. But if you keep your elbow up and utilize the proper back muscles I think you'd be able to shoot that bow a lot easier. There's a RU-vid channel called historical weapons and he's got a lot of videos on warbow shooting. That's where I learned about technique and then was able to refine it on my own.

I don’t know why, but anytime my bows are over 40lbs they break when I try to put a string on them. Right now I’m doing a hickory backed Ipe R/D bow and when I’m exercising the limbs I’ll leave the limbs bent on the tillering stick at around 40lbs. After several minutes I start hearing creaking noises and run over to release the tension.

My last bow is a 50lbs...I can't draw more than this, maybe I can with 55/60 but it would be less fun. So I'm excercising and in the summer I'll try to make a stronger bow

open your legs better, bend your forward knee, relax your jaw, load with your shoulders from above, close your shoulder blades well, the back in these very strong bows is very important. I often shoot warbows. greetings from Italy

My Brothers highest Bow is currently 60 pounds and he pulls his cheap but the good seller of all fiberglass longbow on Amazon like most good hunters pull 40--45 pound bows. Of Course my brother has a Boxy and heavy Boned build. My max for only a few shots is 60 pounds due to being so small at 105--110 pounds or 47--50 kilograms and 5 foot 2 inch or 157.5 cm where wingspan is 1--2 inch or 2.25--5 cm short.

When I was young, and powerlifting as a sport, I went along to the Mary Rose exhibition in Portsmouth (UK), where they have a 130 lb warbow simulator. I could see a knot of tourists trying to pull the bow and failing, so I walked up and pulled it to full draw. An Americal gent said 'bet you couldn't do it again', so I did... glad he didn't ask again though. The guys who used those bows must have been mutants

The Welsh longbow men train from the age of 14. By the time they reach fighting age they can generally pull 130# war bow or higher. It takes years to pull a bow like that. 100# bow should be quicker 😁

HEAVY DRAW .... the Emporor of Japan had his Archers PUSH DRAW with the very heavy bows they used so you may want to avoid pull draw if you cant one arm chin up its okay if the bow shatters it is UNACCEPTABLE if the BOWYER shatters

Yikes I don't think people that shoot compound bow have any idea how hard this is to do. They would struggle with a 50 # My vintage 55# herters will shoot 220-230 fps on a 28 inch draw with moderate arrow weight length. Those vintage herters are blazing fast

wanna get stronger on the pull? Do pull ups, a lot of them ... Do not draw it from the bow to your chest, draw it from above your head down, similarly as you would do a pull up ....reaching your shooting position you should be in full draw...

I hunted with a 100 lb. long bow for several years. I pulled it 30 In. so I don't really know what the poundage was. The bow was custom made for me by a local shop. I'm now quite content with my 50 lb. DH high speed recurve. keep up the good work

It's so powerful, but I mean, is it really necessary to make a bow that is strong but difficult to control? Instead, why not make a bow that is weaker but easier to control?

seems very short

English bow makers say that step trough stringing will end up twisting and warping the bow, they can tell if a bow has been strung this way by the warp and it will void any warranty. Should use push pull method oir a stringer if the bow has a high draw weight. American long bows/flat bows may take the step trough method better as the limbs are wider so more resistant to twisting, but thought irs worth pointing out.
