For anyone that's curious Peatree is about 25 years old. However she looks as old as she did when she was one so it's possible I'll have her for another 25 years. Lol. She says " hello", " Peatree" she screams my name across the house "Ryan", "bad bird dirty bird" (I guess the previous owner yelled at her) and tells the dogs to "lay down". She mimics the squeak of the doors, The staring of my coffee, sneezes, laughs, then when she does something she knows you don't want her to do like throw something on the floor she laughs at you very snarkily. Peatree has a ton of personality

My Senegal TUKI also says mom, HI occasionally what ya doing, luv u, he also says diff names of birds he sees on social media. He gets real quiet and stares intently at other Senegal parrot I show him when I spend quality time with tuki. I'll show him Peatree and tell you what his reaction was while viewing the video. He does that thing with his beak peatree is doing and he's the BEST at mimicking the squeak of the gate!

This is mating language in bird speak. When birds find their companion mates, they offer to feed them. If she accepts, she has also accepted her mate. (In most, but not all bird species, like eclectus parrots for example could have up to 7 mates feeding her and ahem mating with her lol) The feathers dropping and bobbing dance is a sort of "begging" "I want you" "give me attention" sort of communication. Do not get upset with pet parrots for regurgitating their food on you. It is considered the deepest form of affection in their world. This is what they're doing when they are bobbing their head then playing with food in their mouth. Most of them will wait for you to accept it, but not all parrots are so polite and will just regurgitate all over you. Also imagine having all kinds of hormones raging, but never seeing or being able to be with or near any other members of your species, interactions or other wise. It might be a scary or maybe even frustrating place to be from this perspective. 🦜🥰 I love my birds. I have 25 currently but had only 2 before I became a parrot rescue volunteer 🤦‍♀️🤭

I inherited her from my sister over 20 years ago. She's been with me a long time and we have a whole language of clicks and whistles. She says my name and tells the dogs to lay down and mimics every noise that I make in the house such as a stirring my coffee. She was very talkative and affectionate the other night so I thought I'd share a short video of her. Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. She does these dances for me all the time when I take her out of the cage and she even rubs her tail feathers on my hand.

I have a question for you. My sister bought this bird from a breeder and we've always known it was a girl I'm assuming because that's what the breeder said. she's about 25 years old and she's never laid an egg. Does that mean she's a boy? I've had her for a long time but I'm no expert. I've just learned how to take good care of her I have always wondered if it's actually a girl.

@@ryanguitargodfrey the only way to really know for sure is to have a DNA test done. As far as I know, most cockatiels and parakeets are a fairly easy tell. And eclectus parrots are the only dimorphic parrots that you can distinguish their gender from appearance alone. We had a great talking Amazon for more than 30 years we thought was a male. After about 20 years. ..she laid her first egg. Oops Pedro is a girl🤣 (The tail rubbing is definitely a hormonal behavior. )

@@ryanguitargodfrey for a Senegal parrot the green V shape on their chest Will tell you if it’s a girl or a boy if The Green V goes all the way down to their legs its girl if the v goes halfway down their chest it’s a boy This bird thinks you are its mate be careful where you touch the bird only touched the top of the head as if you touch anywhere else they think you’re mating with them and what I can see it looks like a boy
@isabellamatei7797
@isabellamatei7797 2 года назад
I thought regurgitation and similar mating behaviors shouldn’t be encouraged for fear of increasing unnecessary hormone related frustration? From my studies, pet birds and owners should form more of a ‘friendship’ than a ‘lovers’ type bond.

I thought female senegals heads were rounder than their male counterparts. I just lost my male Senegal Zulu on Tuesday morning 😪seeing this video reminded me so much of him, they’re almost identical. Zulu was nearly 24 years old. He was a rescue I got when he was two years old. He was an incredibly energetic, healthy bird who loved company. Sadly he injured his foot after getting it caught and lost his confidence climbing to the top of his cage as he loved to do. Vet said it was a sprain and would heal fine. That was in January. He seemed really sleepy on Monday, yet ate and drank as usual. Got up Tuesday morning and he was sleeping at the bottom of the cage. He died in my hands shortly after. I’m devastated😢 loved my little guy, miss him dearly. Your bird is perfect and senegals are lovely birds to have as pets for anyone thinking of getting one❤

@@karencancerianpriestess712 I'm so sorry to hear this. I have the biggest hug for you. Mine is about 25. I'm so sorry. I inherited this bird from my sister about 25 years ago. She bought it and didn't like it. Where she bought it from, of which I do not know, told her it was a girl. However after all of this time she's never laid an egg. I don't know if she's supposed to, but the only reason I think she's a girl is because my sister told me she was. Lol. Maybe she is a he but with them both being color the same I don't know how one can tell.

@@ryanguitargodfrey thanks so much, I appreciate your kindness and reply. Mine was given up because his owners didn’t like him either, said he was too loud( though I really don’t know what they were thinking when they got him, any parrot can be loud, but I think his excessive squawking as they put it was a cry for attention, as like most parrots they’re extremely social because I honestly didn’t have any issue with him being noisy. Only when he was trying to be heard above my dog😂. Your bird could very well be female, the only way to know for sure is to get them sexed at the vet. Your bird is identical to mine facially and colouring that’s why I thought she was a he. Fun fact about senegals, they only bond with a female owner or a male but never both. I always wondered why he would approach my son, sit on his shoulder, but never let him touch him, whereas I could hold him, clean his beak etc and he wouldn’t bat an eye, they’re so smart, and for u to teach yours to speak is absolutely incredible, they’re not known to speak like other birds, yours is proof that they can just as well as their other feathered friends. Well done to u, I tried for years with no joy. What they don’t say with words, they certainly make up with actions. Sure your days are filled with memorable moments as mine was. Thanks for sharing yours, truly adorable, made me smile🙂❤️ Ps..there’s a name for non mating female birds laying eggs in breeding season but I’m not sure of the official term, I think all females do at some point after maturity. Remember when I was a girl we had a male budgie called Billy who laid an egg, shocked the hell out my dad who named him to find he was a she😂

Try winking at them. They love that too lol. They're cool birds and just want to be out of the cage and hanging out with you. However sometimes I want to be left alone and they'll tell you. They mimic every noise you make around the house. Stirring your coffee, or squeak of the door when you open it. Mine laughs before you do and sneezes and coughs. Lol. They're awesome birds

I inherited Peatree from my sister who purchased her when she was young. I've always been told it was a female. However, I don't have any backing for that other than I was told she's a girl. She's almost 30 years old and I've never seen her lay an egg. Not sure if that means anything but I've had her for about 25 years.

She’s doing mating behavior! You gotta curb that Try giving her less direct sunlight/less free-feeding/a less fatty diet and she’ll hopefully stop : )

I've had her for 28 years and I know her inside and out. I can get her to do these dances on command. Don't read too much into a 60-second video. I also know birds very well. Dances like this can be considered mating rituals at times but they can also learn to do it for other reasons. Her diet is amazing and so is her living arrangements.

No this is the size of a Senegal parrot. They're about half the size of an African gray maybe even a little smaller than that. Plus I have big fingers and I'm really close with my camera so maybe that made her look smaller for some reason.
