After being in my house about 25 years and my kids grown, my husband agreed to make the master bedroom my sewing room! I am so excited! We moved to what was my daughter’s room that is smaller and has the only walk-in closet in the house. Now my stuff that was ALL OVER the house is coming in. Like you, it was more than I thought (don’t tell hubby I admitted that). I can’t settle in because we pulled up the carpet and now just have the slab floor. Everything will have to come out when I can afford the new flooring. It’s a long process that I hope I live to finish! :-)
@chrisester2910

Screw the floor... I would find some inexpensive area rugs and put them where I walk most and build my sewing room! You don't see on the floor, just do it and worry about floor covering later.

I've been trying to...just do something with my sewing room since it's been a war zone ever since I moved into my current house. Watching you and Morgan take everything out to start with may have to be the way I get mine worked on. The chaos of the piles is so overwhelming

Voldemort's Heart when I’m doing deep cleaning/organizing I always say it has to get worse before it can get better. It helps me psychologically to start with a clean slate and room to organize. I’m not very good at organizing and cleaning, so take it for what it’s worth, but when we were moving from the house we’d lived in for 12 years, that was the only way I could get anything done.

Morgan is truly magical in all her endeavors! It also gives me hope that my innate tendency to make clutter expand to multiples of exponentials beyond the actual physical space available, like you, yourself! There’s hope! My “sewing room” is actually my library plus closet that was, once, organized & neat, but eventually became a mouse haven. Given that I have a phobia around mice/rats, you may understand that I haven’t even looked into the closet for many years. I have engaged a housekeeper, becoming her 4th or 5th job which spans a wide area of opportunity. From working in a Lab doing interesting things sorting ore samples from mining all the way to helping me out! If you want something done, get a busy woman to assist!

Everyone needs a friend like Morgan to come help them. I know I really could use one! Love your sewing room you have given me some ideas for mine. You're the first person I've seen put vent holes on our Arning board but they made. I've only seen the vents on the pre-bought ones good idea. I'm jealous of Morgan's braids, One of her braids is as thick as all of my hair braided together. My hair is very fine and thin. I've played June's Journey for quite a while level 200. They just have a couple problems that the need to fix, game advertisement kicking you out of the game is one. I don't know how you could play on your phone I play it on my iPad, bigger is better!

It must feel amazing to have that sewing room all clean and organized. Before we bought our house last year, I once was completely unorganized and had aewing stuff hidden in various nooks and crannies. I started off on a card table in my bedroom, then graduated to a sewing cabinet in the dining room where I was able to store my sewing machine. When we moved into our house I immediately started setting up camp in our bonus room (office?) Just off off our bedroom. I have slowly been working on making it my own little space for a while. My husband surprised me with a couple of thrifted tables for my sewing last year for my birthday. It gave me a lot more space to work with also a lot more places to store things. That's when I realized just how much stuff I had. Family and friends had been giving me their old stuff for a while. Various notions, patterns, left over & unused fabric etc, in addition to the stuff I had accumulated for various projects I never got around too. I had tubs and tubs of stuff. When the whole Marie Kondo bug took over I got busy just going through all the tubs of stuff. I made a huge mess and even worried I lost one of my cats who had been over seeing my progress in one of the boxes that went to the Salvation Army. I later found her sleeping in the closet where I discovered yet another box of sewing stuff. Two days later, I was exhausted, yet at the same time I felt exhilarated. I had managed to go through everything and was ready to start organizing. Only problem was I am not an organized person. I must have missed that class growing up. I ended up with just two big tubs of fabric and several boxes of notions and a couple sewing boxes that held various tools and machine feet. After a while of using my space I figured out what I would like where and made it happen. New ironing board, check, a set of drawers for my tools that i need with in reach, check, a chair that doesn't kill my back to sit in, double check. It was good and I felt like i could breath and be creative in there. Mist recently my faithful old Singer quite working and becuase of her age it was cheaper to retire her to her case (for now anyways) and get a new one. With a new machine on the table I realized I needed to do another overhaul. I recently appropriated a broken bookshelf (curiosity of my climbing 4 yr old) and repurposed it for my sewing room. I found I had a place to store all my books and various other things that had been sitting in boxes patiently waiting for a home. That started off a bigger overhaul than I had planned but in the end it was worth it. It freed up more space on my tables to trace things out on. I eventually hope to get a cutting table in there. I thought I wanted a peg board, but now I'm not so sure. I'm still working on getting a cabinet to store my fabric in or at least most of it. That will free up the spaces under my sewing tables so I can put a storage system for the projects I'm roaring through. Maybe then i wont have so many UFOs. But since the last overhaul I have really felt the creative juices start flowing again. I've been working through my stash. I have some more ideas for history bounding. I'm hoping some day i will get to making my own RU-vid videos. It's so inspiring to see everyone giving their own sewing spaces an overhaul. Gives me ideas on organization and how to make the most of my space. It was fun to see Morgan there helping you. I briefly wondered if she was wearing her corset and expecting her to say she didn't die 😉😂😂 BTW I am a Huge Mercedes Lackey fan and just squealed in delight when i saw the God Mother series on your book case. 😁😁 Anyways thanks for showing off your improved sewing room. ❤❤

Boy I thought my library was eclectic lol but then again if I had everything in my library that I wanted, it'd look like the local used book store lol and be likely twice the size, too lol btw, POINTS DOWN on everything sharp, so that you don't slice your hands open while you're looking for something (I say that because I saw your thread clippers sitting in one of the buckets with the pointy ends up lol) btw, I LOVE the fact you have Lucado sitting next to Zelda on the shelf lol I used to have a digital copy of his library, but it's far out of date now and I can't seem to find the discs for it anymore either, so I'm gonna have to splurge on some hard copies to replace it (and likely several more shelves, too lol). And I wish I could find my copy of that triple-set I had of Swindoll's, too, but I don't remember to whom I lent it, or when lol I am also in the same boat now that you were last fall, as we just moved the kids' rooms around and put both girls into the big bedroom upstairs and my son into the small bedroom upstairs, giving me the old spare bedroom to use as my new sewing room, so that I'm no longer squished into a corner of the basement between the mountain of kids' toys and the mountain of things needed to be sorted sitting on top of the couch that needs to go out in pieces (it's a hide-a-bed from the mid-60s and weighs about 10 pounds less than a baby grand piano without the mattress lol). So I'm guessing at some point in the next couple months I'm going to be heading over to the hardware store for a few supplies to build some shelves, a proper cutting table, and a fold-down system for the ironing board. It should be a blast to build with a 2yo running around attempting to help lol

Our sewing room is the dining room currently. Someday we are planning on having a huge studio with an attached apartment. Only time will tell. Right now we keep our fabric in bins out in our building/shop and bring it in as needed. It's not ideal, but it works. Absolutely love your crosstitch rose painting! It looks wonderful, and the joy of a tidy sewing room is that you can just get straight to the creating without feeling guilty and like you ought to be doing the chores! I have pretty close to my dream sewing room at the moment although in an ideal world it would be big enough to have a cutting table rather than having to hike the dining room table up on ikea footstools every time I want to cut out - my biggest fear is that at some point the children are going to decide that they don’t want to share a room anymore and then bye-bye my sewing space!!

I learned a great way to organize patterns from a professional designer and have use it ever sense. Take all pattern pieces and instruction sheets out of the pattern envelope. Put all the pieces in a brown mailing envelope that is the same size as the pattern envelope. Label with the pattern number and brand. Put in numerical order in cardboard pattern boxes labeled with the pattern number range in each box. Then take all the pattern envelopes and put them in plastic three ring binder sleeves sorting each binder by the type of pattern. Decorations, children’s, women’s casual, etc. That way you can grab a binder, quickly go thru the pattern sleeves containing the original envelopes and when you choose the pattern you want you can go to the correct box to retrieve the actual pattern pieces. The boxes can be stored anywhere in a closet or garage saving space in the sewing room.

It’s so much easier to do these things with a friend! My sister is ruthless on cleaning. She always asks me, “Are you really going to use this again!” She is minimalist and I’m sentimental, so between the two of us we hit a happy medium. Edited to add, I gave a happy (though fairly silent due to sleeping kids) squeak when I saw your manga!

I very much agree! There were many times where I hesitated about keeping something and Morgan asked if I actually wanted it(most if the time it went in the goodbye pile). Having someone with no ties to items when you go through things make such a difference! I read so much manga growing up! Tokyo Mew Mew was the one that got me started! And Fishigi Yuugi was one of my first animes.

Oh! I haven’t read that manga yet! My favorites are Skip Beat, Library Wars, and Special A. I’ll have to read that one next. I’ll check out the anime as well!

Organizing is always the hardest bit. And organizing in a way that makes it easy to keep it organized. It looks great! :)

Wowza! Very beautiful, and looking at your bookcase is like looking at the twin of mine. Right now I sew out of a Mason jar and one little box. But someday I'd live to have a sewing room like this!

Haya, really enjoyable watching you, Morgan & your hubby change & rearrange your sewing room, looks great. I was going to make myself a larger pressing/ironing board as well. Thanku for sharing.

Good job on the reorganization. Great to have help that will direct and suggest! Buttons and snaps in the drawer: Those little Dollar Tree drawer organizer things. I have some in my kitchen drawers and some in my sewing drawers. There are various sizes, 2", 3", bigger... Diane Gabaldon....Outlander starts this weekend!!

All of this is delightful, but since you did a book tour here, it feels like the right place to say that I get a kick out of seeing all your Tamora Pierce books in all your videos. She's a favorite of mine!

Your sewing room looks so good now! Having an organized space always makes me feel more creative. Can’t wait to see what all you accomplish this year! You costubers have created such a nice little community, it’s great to see you all lifting each other up. I enjoy seeing you guys collaborating and shouting each other out in your videos.

Your sewing room turned out beautifully! Great way to use your space by putting your tables on wheels, and definitely with the adjustable height on them (for us tall ladies - 5'10 1/2" here, lol). I hope it has been practical for you as well, and I really look forward to seeing your next creations!

I currently sew in the "dinning/guest romm to be" and will move under the roof later so I kind of don't want to decorate but I really want to decorate now with millions of fairy lights now. Still not quite sure how I want to set up my sewing table once the L-shaped office desk is out of the way. You got me thinking A LOT right now :) Love the moveable cutting desk!

I have sewing room envy - sadly I live in a 1 bed apartment so my minimal fabric ends up in the same drawer as my bed linen, sewing supplies are limited to a pretty box and luckily I have a 1909 singer sewing machine which is a decorative item in my living room.

Try to raise your bed and utilise the space with drawers for your fabric stash. It helped me a lot. Small spaces is tricky, use all your vertical space. Good luck 🌸

Lorna & Dave I do have the lift up type bed with the storage area in the divan space unfortunately that’s filled up with ad hoc stuff like photograph albums, technology boxes (🤷‍♀️) etc. Currently working on how to declutter 40 years of crap.

@@susanjames2994 Good luck. I decluttered a while ago due to downsizing. The only thing I battled with was my fabric stash.

I don't have a sewing room yet, but I have indulged in some hardcore planning for the hypothetical day when I have the spare room, time and money. I have used PowerPoint to create scaled 2D models of various pieces of furniture/frankensteined IKEA creations that I would like for my room and then basically dropped those models into hypothetical scaled floor plans. I have also calculated the approximate cost of each floor plan in an overly detailed Excel spreadsheet.
