Hi there! I just wanted to let you know (in the odd hope that you may read this) that the reason you can still push and move around with the epidural is because it is specifically a dorsal root ganglion block. For simplicity's sake, you can picture the dorsal aspect of your ganglion (essential a mass of nervous tissue) coming out of the "top" of your spinal vertebra like a dolphin's dorsal fin and the ventral aspect coming out of the "bottom" of the vertebra. The dorsal (sensory) ganglia travel back to the brain to tell you that you are experiencing pain, whereas the ventral (motor) ganglia relay signals sent by the brain (e.g. you telling your leg to kick). Hence, you are pain free below where the dorsal root block is placed. I'm just a mere veterinary student panicking over my exams and I figured this wasn't the worst way to procrastinate. I love your content and how scientific your research presentation is. I hope I helped or at least piqued your interest. Cheers!

Pumping is the worst. I have an 18 month old, this vid brings up a lot of feels for me. 36 hour labor, unplanned C-section + major BF struggles, I haven't thought about these things in a while. I stopped nursing completely when she was 10 months old, and TMI, but I can still squeeze a little out, and I was never a big producer, so weird. Good for you for knowing what's right for you and your family.

My sister-in-law nursed all three of her kids until they were about two. But she only pumped for the first one because she said she hated feeling like a cow. It was one of the most personal things I've ever heard her say. It also benefit did the relationship because for the first year the kids for needed to be with her all the time so she could feed them. Whereas with the first baby even though she wanted to have him with her all the time she was forced to go back to work quicker and other slightly not is awesome things as a new mother. As I'm not a mom I have no idea but I am so fascinated with these birth stories.

Thank you. I cried watching the part about breastfeeding. I had EVERY issue you did. I tried.. saw consultants.. nipple blisters.. bleeding.. pain.. baby wont open their mouth. and I had to supplement with breast milk from the start... and I got so depressed from not being able to exclusively BF.. I was pumping CONSTANTLY... but my supply was going down anyway... and pumping literally made me CRY.. i hated every second of it. I would cry through pumping. nothing about it made me happy. I stopped completely at 3 months... and it made me so much happier. it feels like a weight being listed hearing this.. that I'm not the only one. thank you.

Thank you for being so open and honest - I had an epidural after 45 hours of labour (he was back to back like you & had the cord round his neck) and at the time felt so guilty I caved and took the drugs (so silly but I felt pushed in to a natural birth) I also had the same probs with breast feeding but tried SO hard but gave up after 10 days as I was scared & cried in fear every time my baby came near me. As soon as I gave up everything was 100% better and I could hug my baby and enjoy him! I wish I had listened to my body and not other peoples opinions on drugs and breast feeding xxx

I have the exact same breast-feeding story as you ❤️ pumped with the first for 1.5 years and felt the pressure to do it again with the second. Wish I would’ve given myself a break and used formula for my sanity. My husband did nearly all the cleaning of the pump parts for me because he felt bad that I refused to use formula because I thought it was unfair that I did if for my first (also had lots of Postpartum issues and developed mastitis 4x, so I was very irrational and not in the best state). Wish I could go back and time and be kinder to myself. ❤️

We had so many breastfeeding struggles for 2 months, so for my sanity, I decided to quit BF and start pumping. I don't feel inferior to mothers who are able to BF, nor do I feel superior to mothers who formula-feed. I think it's important to do what's best for baby, and that includes taking care of yourself and taking care of your needs as well. 💕

Omg I gave birth naturally with pitocin to a sunnyside up baby. That was the worst pain in my entire life. Bad decision lol

When I was a labor nurse I always told moms that the labor itself was no longer natural once pit was involved. You are a damn super woman!

That is hard work! 💕 I had a posterior baby but no pitocin thank goodness, and was unmedicated, it was intense but honestly awesome. To do it with pitocin you are incredible 👑

I’m so glad it all went okay over all! I’m glad tiny baby is healthy. I hate hospitals so much and I’m just afraid of needing an IV and not being able to move and having nurses constantly in and out of the room and I’m so afraid of needing a C-section and stuff like that. All to say that’s just me, I know that these are great things in general and some people need it which is absolutely fine. I had my first baby in a birth center with no drugs or interventions. It was just a nurse and a midwife and it was great. And we got to leave after just a few hours and got to sleep in our own bed and everything. It was all really nice 👍

Congratulations on your new addition! Normally hate birth stories but I watched your whole video so it mustn't have been terrible! You totally do not need to justify not breast feeding. It sounds like we had similar experiences and omg the memory of that pain makes my toes curl. Any one who gives someone sh*t for not bfing has not felt that pain. Horrendous. Glad all is going well now, enjoy the tiny stage...it goes by so quickly...wish it didn't though 😭

I had my baby on November 23rd 2018. Same thing happened with me I was a day before my due date, when my Palms and feet got super itchy. While my sister had cholestasis and had to be induced immediately. So that's basically what happened to me is that they induced me which started labor pains, I was in labor for almost 2 days at about 2 cm which they then gave me a drip of oxytocin which speeded up the labor so I basically went from 2 cm to 8 cm within 6 hours all without an epidural. It was at 8 cm that the baby's heart rate started to rise very rapidly, which at that time the doctor decided to give me an emergency C-section. Oh my God the recovery from a C-section was brutal

Thanks for sharing! I just had my first in February so a lot of this is super relatable. It makes me feel a bit better that I've been having to supplement with formula. It was really stressful because mine lost a lot of weight initially and wasn't all that big to begin with but is doing really well now.

My grandson was 4 lbs 12 oz when he was born. I remember helping my daughter feed him every two and a half hours. It was really hard on her not to be able to trust that the baby would wake up on his own to eat. He just didn't care about eating. That is crazy hard to deal with. She was always stressed out and only sleeping for two hours at a time since it took a good 15 to 30 minutes to get baby to wake up only to have him fall asleep while eating. I definitely have a lot of sympathy for new mothers and fathets stressed out about their littles not eating enough.

My second was sunny side up as well, I was in labor for four long painful days thanks to it 😭 she also has a mark on her head that has not fully gone away as of her being seven now.

If hair loss is something that may affect your emotional wellbeing or self-esteem, you may want to try swapping liquid shampoo for shampoo bars or another artisanal option (i make a liquid version as well, but bars are still my favorite because it’s also zero waste and they last longer) because they honestly do help a lot in getting that thick, luscious main from actual nutrition of your scalp that no other product can imitate. You can also do Castor oil scalp massages once or twice a week but having a newborn simply replacing the shampoo sounds more realistic to me 🖤

Congratulations on your baby! I had my first two at an awesome hospital in Virginia. They had tons of vegan options! I’m delivering the baby #3 at a military hospital this time around and not looking forward to the food. Hopefully I’m not in there too long!

Lol... Yes! The cramps!! After I had 2nd, everytime I nursed I thought I was going back into labor! I actually called the Dr. On day 3, asking if it's possible something got left in the uterus 😂😂 ... It was just that intense. 🧡 Congratulations on the new addition to your lovely family!♥️

Oh my word, the burning IV. I thought I was the only one. I also experienced that with my first. I told the nurse that it was burning, I had been laboring for 24 hours already, no drugs, and the burning was just too much. The nurse acted like I was overreacting and started wiggling the IV, so I grabbed her wrist and glared at her while demanding that she stop because it was burning! Thankfully, my husband stepped in and got another nurse to place a new IV before I hurt that poor lady.

I had a hysterectomy last summer and brought a whole bunch of food. They had a vegan menu and it was so nice. It was really good. Sometimes they gave a side dressing that wasn't vegan but for the most part it was really good. I was so surprised.

As a healthcare provider I feel that it's important to tell you that it is actually very dangerous that they left you 4 hours alone without somebody coming in and checking on you. Things like hemorrhaging can happen very quickly and often before a new mother even realizes that it's happening. This is exactly why we have to check on patients at least once an hour to ensure all patients are safe and breathing. Even midwives who typically leave after baby is born ensure that you have somebody in the house with you in case of an emergency

I just came across your videos and first off, I appreciate how well versed you are in so many things! And not in a "I have Google" way. I don't know your background, but it appears you know how to source information well! Anyway, I had to comment re: baby weight loss and IV fluids. I'm a L&D RN, and based on what you've described in your birth story, you probably received quite a bit of extra IV fluids a) to properly dilute the penicillin to prevent discomfort (though this in and of itself would likely be negligible) b) because tiny baby kept having heart decelerations. Other than position changes, giving a volume of extra fluid through the IV would be the next treatment to help bring baby's heart rate back up. Based on the frequency of the decelerations you've described, I expect you received a good bit of extra fluid. This certainly doesn't explain prolonged weight gain issues, but an interesting consideration, nonetheless!

I'm sorry to hear about your hair loss. I also have had this struggle and now were wigs. And let me tell you is so much fun. There are a ton of resources to on RU-vid and in Facebook groups. I think your hair looks nice how you have a cut. But if you want it to cut it you wouldnt have to shave it you could also do like a pixie cut would be so cute.

Congratulations on baby #2 everything you said about tiny baby eating is exactly how my daughter (same age as your toddler) was. Everything, from the losing weight in the beginning to not gaining weight. Except she absolutely refused to take a bottle so we could not fortify. We found out at 4 days old she had a heart condition and that was most of the reason she didnt eat as much because it was hard work and she would get too tired. Anyway best wishes for your family. I enjoy watching your channel, started watching after my daughter was born.

Aside from my appreciation of you sharing your birth story in your usual, honest, down-to-earth way... I just wanted to chime in to disagree and say that I think you'd seriously rock a shaved head. I have a feeling it won't really come to that, but if it did, I think you'd look pretty rad. Just saying.

Having your first baby is such a cultural shock. You can mentally prepare yourself all you want, however once you have the baby nothing feels like what you imagined and can throw you into instant depression. My second i didn't get ppd because i knew what i was up against this time
