this is exactly what i did in college when learning to silk screen, my local staples closed and became a target, but if you have access to a place with a printer, it kicks ass, its pretty cost effective for diy shit

Love your vids....do you recommend a 13x19 printer? If you have a 15x17 platen? The reason why I ask is because it seems that it's a smart print image on extra large shirts. Or do I get a 24" wide printer? For the jobs that you do most, what print size do you use? Trying to figure that out before I buy the press. Thanks for your videos sir.

David Reed it’s the actually size that you will be printing. I don’t print anything bigger that 11” wide. So if you are planning on printing bigger than that then yes, get a 13” wide printer. It’s the size of the designs that you are planning on printing, not the size of the pallets

Thank you for the informative videos - just an observation.... You showed that you are using inkjet transparencies, but at Staples, the copies are printed on what appears to be a copier - does the copier ink/toner still stick to the inkjet transparencies?

Hey Mike. Yes you are correct I’m using the Inkjet transparencies printing them thru a copy machine/laser copier. You must tell them to print on the print side of the transparency sheet. It’s the same as they would print on those overhead type of Transparency sheets for the schools for the over head projectors.

Thanks, i needed to see this video! I am a new printer, so still learning. I went to Fed Ex and Office Depot, just emailed my image over and they used their transparency film, didn't come out very black, duh. I will buy my own film and double down!

Yes they use laser printers. And you will need to have them print it twice. Cut one out and overlay it on top of the other. To make it darker. You also need to tell them that it needs to be as dark as they can print it

Called multiple staples. They tell me they don't do 11X17 prints. I asked if I could bring my own in and they said no because it will jam their printer? Any other way to get bigger prints?

They will need to feed it through the tray 1 by 1. It will not jam the drum on their printer. That was the same issue/thought that we had in the begging, until we tried it.

I have a question, so the film you’re using is inkjet right? When I go to kinkos or staples, they said I can’t use inkjet film on their laser printer. Am I missing something here?

Yes you are correct, copy places 99% of the time has laser printers. Your transparency films will go through the laser printers on the external tray feeder. You just need to tell them that you need it printed as dark as they possibly can and you will most likely need 2 copies to layer them together. Just say it’s a transparency film, similar film to an overhead projector.

Hey man I’m trying to start out can you make a video on how to take an image and make it not blurry when I print it out and how to make it ready to go to staples becuase when ever I get it printed it is very blurry and I don’t know how to fix it

Ya you need to get vector files. Reason why it’s “blurry” is because it not a high resolution images. For staples, it just needs to be ready for print as you would when you print it out yourself. I guess the first thing is get the high resolution or a vector images

Only reason is that’s what I have and I believe that the laser film will get stuck in the laser printers drum or shrink .

I been struggling trying to figure out why sometimes my screen image wash out easy and sometimes a bitch... I was blaming my emulsion coating... nope... dam films aren’t dark enough! Rhy if you fix your printer make a detailed video! I just bought one like yours! Does anyone know if you can only use black and leave the rest out or empty on the epson 4800s+ The canon pixma isn’t printing dark enough no matter what I try

No you cannot just use black and leave the rest black. You will need the clear solution for the others and use a RIP software or get all black carts

Try going to a Staples. You need to bring your own 11x17 sheets and you print in the non-smooth side. Also try using photoshop

Only reason is that the design is 12” wide. My transparency is 11” . Yes the registration marks will burn on the screen. But we usually tape it up before production

Yo Rhy, quick follow up. I used your double up technique at Office Depot. I just got started and wouldn't have even known to look out for this, but when they gave me the negative, I put it up against a simple white paper and could see thru it. If I didn't catch your video, I would have just taken it as it was. I had them make doubles and it worked perfectly! THANK YOU! You earned a new sub here!!

They can print 11x17 , you need to bring the transparency sheets. They only have the 8.5x11 for overhead projectors. Also check FedEx print place. Some can print 13”

I got a 1430 off ebay for $250 and they sell 10 packs of black ink for 12$ so that's what I do. The down side the Ink is good for like 20 prints

Hi Ryan, thanks for this content. I know it's an old one. We've learnt our lessons with inkjet printhead printers. Lost a lot of money with RIP, cartridges, et al. We just lost the canon PIXMA 100. A printer we didn't use for more than 10 times. Coming back to your printing at staples. It is obvious that they are using Digital Presses with Toner inks. My question is, you mentioned taking along your inkjet transparencies film (waterproof). Are these transparency films compatible with big toner based digital Presses/printers? Because we have some inkjet transparencies from our stock and we don't foresee going back to inkjet printers until the technology is devoid of the stressful daily/monthly maintenance. Thanks

Well.. it’s not really made for printers that has the “drum”, like those copiers. If your Staples store will allow you to do it. Just send the transparency sheets 1 at a time.

@@bosun436 if you do. The transparency sheets needs to be feed from the tray not the regular papper drawer and you need to tell them which side is the “print” side of the sheet

Aarrggh! Old school here. Find a photolithographer. Get real film positives. Durable an opaque. Pass extra cost on. Hated having to use supplied printed films. Most were garbage.
