When I replaced my shure 75 with a stanton 600, I started to hear high freq. tones that I didn't know existed on my records.

Gratz on your find! I was listening to the record and that reminds me that at one point media did the news to inform people, now they just want to be sensational by saying their own spin regardless of truth or lies. Thanks for sharing.

I so have a set of 520sk dj needles which I believe can use the same stylii as this cartridge. Their own stylii are dj needles so they track heavy. Another nice one I found as more of a budget cartridge is the red audio Technica at91r. Not the best but punches way above it's weight once broken in for 30ish hours. All carts sound better after broken in. I considered getting the lp gear HiFi upgrade for the 520sk but haven't decided yet.

Wow i set my old Gold 500 Mk1 up today, took about 45 minutes, i am still playing arond with the VTA and i can honetly say i am blown away . I ordered a 35 euro stylus which unfortunately is as you state ,,only tracks well above 3 grams but it will do for now. Vocals sound clearer, natural and airy the soundstage opened up , .instruments sound like instruments and not cardboard cutouts .Everything sounds more natural and to think i had this cart sitting in a drawer since 93 thinking it was junk, when it was just the plastic Hitachi TT that was junk. I now need to see if i can find a N.O.S stanton E stylus or something from Jico.

I tried an Ortofon 2M red, but I found it a bit shrill and fatiguing to listen to. Maybe it just wasn’t suited for my system. Very interesting record and insight into Staton carts. Been a long time since I have seen and heard a Pickering. I track my Nagaoka at 1.8 Grams. Anyway nice video.

They are old school now, but I still have a pair of Technics SL1200MK5s from when I was a bedroom DJ waaaaay back in the day. They used to have Stanton 500s stylus, which are awesome sounding. Used them right from the start, even with the cheaper decks that I started with. I still have a set that I use from time to time, but I like to use Ortofon Concords now.

Hi Joe great vid man I have I got one for you I love vintage stereo gear from TT's to Reel to Reels. I was passing buy a yard sale about a month ago and something, In my head told me to turn back and just take a look. I walked around then something caught my eye laying on the floor of this woman's garage. There sat Pioneer box yellowed from age and it had printed on it Pioneer PL-10 turntable on it. I garbed it and walked to the woman that was having the yard sale and asked her about the TT, She said that it belonged to her father and that she never used it and has no need for it. I asked her how much she said 10 dollars I could not get the money out any faster before she would change her mind.. Ok here comes the great part I got home with it and put it on my work bench and opened the box thinking that it was not all there or it was going to be in really bad condition, I was picking myself off the floor to find a mint Pioneer PL-10 still wrapped in the factory packaging with a Stanton 500 cartridge that has never been played. The rubber feet was all dried and cracked and of course the drive belt was all goo. Took it all apart cleaned and lubed and installed a new belt what a time capsule not a scratch or a mark on it and it plays and sounds so awesome.

UPDATE: I FOUND my Stanton 500e MKII cartridge, reinstalled it on a headshell, plugged it into my 1976 Sansui turntable - and IT STILL SOUNDS AMAZING! Man I don't know why I took this off years ago. And then I thought it was GONE as I couldn't find it. I found it inside of a GRADO cartridge box of all places. Anyhow, now I'm looking for a NEW OLD STOCK Stylus replacement - the exact blue one that you show in your video. At some point this stylus is going to need to be replaced, and I don't know if I should trust the JICO or others to hold up to this kind of quality. Any lead on a NOS Stanton stylus is GREATLY appreciated. I check the eBay daily...

@@EzeeLinux How do you think the 500e MkII stands up against some of these "boutique" cartridges that are priced into the thousands?
@EzeeLinux
@EzeeLinux Год назад
@@stephanchaggaris9437 I think the Stanton 500 at it's best (with the D5100E stylus) is probably on par with a modern Audio-Technica ATVM95EN that sells for around $120 (US), sound wise. I have both and they sound very similar. The 500 is of coarse more rugged and can stand more abuse but if you just judge them on sound alone, they're pretty close. My new (to me) Stanton 680 EL beats every cartridge I've heard for under $500. There's not much difference in sound between $500 and $1000...Above $500 you're now getting into moving coil carts and when you get in to the thousands you're dealing with jewelry more than practical audio equipment.

Great video! I almost accidentally came into possession of a 500 and an L720EE. The 500 had a decent replacement conical stylus and sounds very good. The 720 was missing a stylus, so I bought a Pfanstiehl 4820-DE (D5100E type) 0.3 x 0.7 from Amazon. The recommended tracking force for that cartridge tops out at 1.5, but even tracking it at 2+ it’s very sibilant. Have you had any good luck with replacement styli since you made the video, or experimenting with tracking force?
@EzeeLinux
@EzeeLinux Год назад
Nope. I just went another round with my Stanton 500 V but the replacement stylus I got from Lp Gear tracked awfully... There just isn't a good replacement for these other than a genuine Stanton... If you find one. Please let me know! :)

@@EzeeLinux It appears that the Kyowa D-5100E is the same stylus as the Turntable Needles/Bliss (made in Japan, looks and sounds identical, tracks well at 1.5g) for considerably less, only $23 shipped from an eBay seller. I have a Stanton 680E. The sound is flat. I need more high end due to age and loud music in my younger years. :) I compensated with an EQ on-line before the amp. The only complaint I have is trying to remove the feedback hum. I guess I need to move the 1600 watt 18" subwoofers to the other side of the room.

Why don't people who want the best turntables try and get new old stock REVOX B790/B795 both play records the way the master was cut on a record cutting lathe, both will need recapping as well as the drive belts that drive the tonearm along the record as some drive belts turn into black goo or you could go for the MARANTZ 143 Midi System also has a Linear Tracking Turntable where the tonearm is in the lid.
