Testing The Sound Quality To Four Different "Stanton" Styluses

A few days ago I bought two pairs of new turntable styluses , so I decided to do a test sound quality to four different "Stanton" styluses .
Audio recording I used "Sound Forge 9" - 48000Hz 24 bit.
Video footage that will be watching shows on the right side tested the stylus, and the left is a snapshot Vu meters from a mixing console.
Output from mixers and "gain" on the channel for turntable for all four test were at the same level of sound.
The sound you hear in this video is :

audio sample rate 44 kHz

I bought a Kyowa stylus replacement stylus for my Shure V-15 Type 3 to extend the life on my various Shure OEM styli and was quite pleased with the sound quality. The bass and mid-range are outstanding on the Kyowa, if they manage to figure out and perfect the highs they could sell truck loads.

The Stanton N500S is just a rebadged EVG PM4202D stylus. I get the same result with mine: high output level and wide stereo separation, but lots of sibilance distortion.

Finally, someone has posted some samples that are actually useful...thank you! Why people don't understand that picking up the audio with their phone mic tells nothing. I was surprised by the Stanton 5200. It was quieter, but also seemed cleaner. The Kyowa was interesting as well. If I may ask, what tracking force were you using for these?...and was it the same for all?

well you felt D5200SK has the weakest signal a leaving or has the cleanest sound. excellent balance between bass middle and treble ... if you asked me for the weight that she was 3 grams for all

Some of the best sounding cartridges I own also have some of the lowest outputs. That's mostly because the cantilever and magnet assembly is lighter in weight. A lighter magnet will induce less current into the coils in the cartridge, but is also easier to push around by the stylus. I do have a soft-spot for the 500 series Stanton cartridges after using them on-air in radio stations for more than a decade. Nice to see there is a good compromise between decent level, and tracking in the 5200SK. I'll see if I can find one somewhere. Thanks again.

You will not regret purchasing a Kyowa stylus. They are a steal for their retail price!

Yes, but I found out a few months ago on the internet that in Switzerland one company produces several models of Stanton needles, but the price was high. So I ignored that option.

I just got an old pioneer PL 115D turntable that has a Stanton 500-11 cart with the D5100 AL II stylus was wondering if you could tell me what you set your tracking force and anti skate to its difficult finding any information on this that is consistent Cheers

I have a Stanton 681EEE "Iron Core" cartridge. What model of preamp will work with a non MM or MC cartridge or does it matter. I see some where you can set the load resistance, capacitance and compliance. It says it's rated at 47K ohm load. I don't see any adjustable preamps with that high of value. Any suggestions?

@Kent Teffeteller 47K is used but not as much anymore. I bought a Schilt Audio - Mani. It has slide switches on the bottom for every combo for magnetic or ceramic. It is very well priced and works torrific.

If you have a MM setting on your receiver, integrated, or preamp, the MM setting will have the correct output level for your Stanton 681 phono cartridge.
