I am a woman diagnosed with PDD-NOS (I say Asperger's for simplicity) in my 40's after a long and confusing journey. This is the first in a series of videos where I share about my life pre-diagnosis. It was important in my journey to hear other people's stories. Please share this with anyone who may be helped by it

I want to help give a voice to undiagnosed and late-diagnosed women on the spectrum as well as those dealing with complex chronic health issues.
I share about Aspergers in women as well as my own story as a female with Aspergers.

Sounds a lot like my early childhood. I remember being terrified when I was sent to take something somewhere for my teacher. I also hated doing anything where there was any attention on me, even if it was good attention.

I had a lot of those things as a child, super shy and sensitive and would spend all my time drawing and making things, I really struggled with maths though, I think I am......oh I can't remember the right word, dyslexia for maths...dyscalcula! I had lots of ear and sinus infections too.

OMG! Everything you said happened to me. I weighed 5lbs at birth, my mum was a smoker and I suffered a lot of childhood ear infections. I didn't move very much in the womb too. I was diagnosed with Aspergers in 2011 and I was 42. I knew how to tell the time by the age of 3 and this was without being taught. I found school boring as I knew how to read etc. Thanks for doing these videos. xx

It's pretty wild! I've had others say the same thing. It's amazing the similarities.

I relate quite a lot, I got a lot of chest problems and was born with a hole in my heart. I have had severe anxiety and depression and severe emotion difficulties. I have loads of sensory issues and had trouble reading but I needed glasses that only were needed at time and not dependant on light. I was always seems as smart yet wouldn't fulfill the grades. Easily distracted by sounds. Lights were too bright. I have trouble formulating proper grammar despite understanding it. I was though to be add in grade one but my mom refused it. Social deficit ties I'm 29 and I still don't understand and would want to be touched and texture issues with clothes and food. I have obsessions while I am diagnosed with moderate to severe OCD. I was very disorganized and got upset very easily. I was also selectively mute and very shy. I'm looking into a diagnosis now and sort of working on it but scared to

arghhh I really need to remember to hit STOP before I finish writing a comment or it goes on to the next video in playlist and I lose my comment .. which has happened 3 times now blast it. :( Anyway, I found this very interesting. I loved books also (I had 2 teacher librarian parents which was pretty awesome as I had endless supply of books to borrow) and a love for deep pressure. I also loved swinging on swings and spent hours on the swing in my back yard. It was a place I could retreat into my own world in my head, while the movement of the swing was great. It's the first time I've thought about it in many years... only thought about it because you mentioned you liked kinetic movement.

I was born 3 weeks early too! I was right around 5 lbs, had a hole in my heart (eventually it closed on its own), and I also was a candidate for SIDS, which required a constant breathing monitor until I was about 6 months old. I had a ton of ear infections, upper respiratory, and bladder infections all through childhood as well. Like Laura below, I was terrible at math once we advanced beyond basic arithmetic, but very good at arts and creative writing. I used to have tantrums or meltdowns at the drop of a hat, which earned me the title of "brat" by most of my family and friends- eventually this made me withdraw and hide myself from people, basically spending all my time with animals or reading until mid-high school when I developed physically and figured out makeup. Then it was all about liking boys but never being able to deal with their approaches. Anyway- I could obviously go on and on- there are SO many similarities in my experience to your own. Thank you for sharing. Just in the past couple of weeks I have started investigating Asperger's again, but much more seriously this time. I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia (age 20), and IBS, depression, social anxiety, TMJ, apnea, blah blah blah, but they have always felt like pieces of a larger picture. I would very much like to be tested, but I don't have much support, and I'm pretty horrible at reaching out and making appointments, talking to strangers in person, and organizing myself enough to take action. But as a 35 year old single(again) mom, I'd really like some concrete answers for once in my life! I desperately need to find where I fit in so I know how to make my life satisfying and productive instead of overwhelming and frustratingly full of dead-ends. Again, thank you for putting yourself out there :)

Ok, I had looked at Ehlers before, but didn't think it applied enough. What DID apply was the hypermobile joints (diagnosed), pregnancy complications, insensitivity to local anesthetics, myalgia, and arthralgia. And it may be completely coincidental but my dad died at age 62 of an aortic rupture. Figuring this stuff out is one hell of a connect-the-dots puzzle!

I have goosebumps... Speech impediments (s, j, sh, ch, r) Roller skating for hours Hyperlexia ( can spell anything ) Loved school and settings where I could play a role Bossy with my friends (minions, customers) Tennis in high school (JV) Baton Severe shyness/ selective mutism Synesthesia (numbers 1-9 all have personalities) Creative (a necessity, rather than a choice) Noise sensitivities Deep pressure craving (my husband's neck massages are too light, no matter how hard he presses)

I remember hitting the ball against the brick wall of the old school near my house. I also remember rollerskating in circles for hours around the support beams in our dusty basement. I have been really obsessing lately with the idea of seeking a formal dx or not. One moment I am completely sure that I have AS, the next, I think I'm just looking for attention and connecting small dots to big ones. Did you go through this before your dx?

Do your numbers have a gender too? Mine do. Same with letters of the alphabet.

Hi angele cretella, I must have missed this post before. That is amazing! Wow! Do you by chance like foreign languages and cultures, too?And about diagnosis, did you seem my video about whether to seek a diagnosis? And about the questioning yourself I did and occasionally do go back to doubts, which feels like denial to me. Whatever happened? Did you get a diagnosis?

***** Hi, I'm 52, female, and just asked doc for a referral 9 days ago. I'm convinced I am from same planet as you lot, whether they tell me I am or not. I have tons of 'narrow' interests including S Korean cinema, and v slowly picking up bits of their language and alphabet as I go. I must eat black bean noodles when I watch Castaway on the Moon, lol. As for the synesthesia, numbers 1457 and 10 are male, the rest female. Same with the alphabet. abcdegopqsuvy are a female the rest male. Notice the ladies are mostly rounded, haha. I have some psychic things happen too. Love that stuff.
