This is my story, unedited, unfiltered, accurate to my memory and real life! Addiction, Alcoholism, PTSD, and combat made me the man living in sobriety that I am today. This is the first of a 3 or 4 part telling of my journey. I hope someone will be able to relate and or use some of my experiences to help themselves or others they may know.

Good to see you buddy. Several things today hit me. Rabbit hole......yep, mine was pretty dark and lonely. I too am scared if I slip into that hole again of making it out again. When you left your Army confines, groups, structure and were worried and felt cut off a bit. Very similar to those of us coming out of safe , no temptation environment of rehab. Me and my littermates all worried about leaving and being able to deal with the real world. Alcoholic.....not an alien . I wonder how some regard us........but hey, I can't worry about it. I am honest about it. What they do with that is up to them. Anyway, good to see you. Looking good and the message is helping. Keep on

@@1Sober2Another As I write a family member is trying to try…this is their third day…may not sound like a lot of time..but I’ve come to experience IT IS…the horror this poison can do to a person is unbelievable…we’re praying they can overcome this monster on their back…take care you’re an inspiration to other’s…believe me…

@@whatwillbem6825 3 days is monumental and very trying..When I was on day 3 I had to listen to my body for withdrawal and a few other complications that surface when I stopped..I also found it helpful to have a support system that held me accountable and were non-judgmental..If your family member feels like blowing off steam or wants to talk to an Alcoholic like me, they can contact me anytime, you as well ma'am, and anyone else who finds themselves wondering. 1sober2another@gmail.com

@@1Sober2Another Noted…his days off of work are Thursday and Friday…I’m very anxious and stressed as I know idle time is very dangerous…I would love to tell him about you…no one in the house speaks about anything regarding his monster on his back..he as we all are aware is fighting this poison..we all can see what he’s going through right now..if he wants to talk about it then we will..right now we just go about our routine…we all try and make things positive around him….

@@whatwillbem6825 I definitely understand why you feel you shouldn't bring it up..However, sometimes (in my case) a "mirror" is a very powerful eye opener. I'm not saying what you should do. I will say the more my wife tried to pretend everything was normal..the more I felt that what I was doing to myself and my family was just that. I'm not a counselor, a social worker, or a doctor...I just have my own intensive experience with "the monster on my back". We haven't met, but I feel like we can speak openly, and I write in this forum because this conversation matters. Alcohol affects everyone involved..Let me know if I'm out of line, I care and I'm a grateful recovering Alcoholic 🙏
