Aaron and I had a hard time getting this one done. He was sick, we had technical difficulties and other things happened too. His story is far and away one of the most powerful. He is in recovery...this is his story and he's got a lot to say. He's also the host of From Tragedy to Triumph / fromtragedy Recorded at the Ohio Media School in Norwood, Ohio. To keep up with The Addiction Series please go to / theaddictionseries / theaddictionseries

Thank you for your story. I have never done drugs but lost my wife to them. My wife passed away in 2017. She was diagnosed arthritis and given opana. My wife was 120 pounds was had never done a drug or drank alcohol but was prescribed opana. After a year she was on 5 opana a day. A year later the pharmacy ran out of her pain meds and she went to heroine. After a while she was hooked on that. Thank you for your story I wish my wife could be around to tell hers.

Your story certainly resonates with me. My husband got caught up in the opiates and the Drs as well. We are in that age group you mentioned. He is currently in jail, and before he went to jail, he had graduated to meth. It changes the brain. It changes the person. I pray for my husband, and I'll pray for you. My husband does not yet realize. He is angry at being in jail, and playing the blame game. But i won't give up. Right now, I'm just glad that he's alive. If not for jail, I'm not sure he would be. But i know he will walk out those doors one day. So i pray. I hope anyone who reads this will keep my husband and any other person in the grip of addiction in their own prayers. God does hear and listen, and He does not sleep. He is always working in our lives.

I fell into addiction the same way he did through a doctor. I chased and lived that addiction for 20 plus years and I was a functioning addict. My kids however knew that something was going on and now my 22 year old son is hooked on fentanyl and my stepson died 4 years ago from fentanyl. Of course as parents we blame ourselves but like this man I am angry because the government and the drug companies knew exactly what they were doing and I know that I should have read the pamphlet but I trusted my doctor. I never thought a doctor would essentially hand me heroin

What is your husband's name? I will gladly pray for him. I already am because even if I don't know his name, God does. Please pray for my 22 yr old son Geno who is fighting the same addiction but fentanyl which doesn't give many chances. PLEASE if you read this PRAY for my son and I am praying for ALL afflicted with this addiction because it is the enemy!!! God Bless you all

Thanks for sharing Aaron. So many good points raised. We're sick and tired of hearing this familiar story about big pharma and the seemingly recklessness of the local doctor prescribing. Also so true about the brain chemistry being altered through drug abuse, most people don't get it yet happy to have an opinion, as we all would I guess. The thing is you can be on the world stage with the universe booing you off and it won't even register in the addicts mind, nothing compares to the chaos and self loathing of an addicts darkest days! Your actually a great speaker and very witty, thanks again and keep on :)

At present, it is estimated that 400,000-500,000 Americans have died of opioid overdoses since the turn of the millennium, then all opioid-related deaths such as accidents, suicide, hepatitis, etc. are added. Then add deaths caused by alcohol, amphetamine, crack, cocaine and we are up to millions death. While the number of deaths in covid 19 is estimated at 87,000. What resources have been put into the two different diseases?

I really enjoyed listening to your story 😇. I love the realness you are expressing, I truly believe the darkness we go through brings out the person you always wanted to be . I get everything your saying because it happened to me , once getting rid of the addiction now it’s all the emotions why’s shames , but you know what being a addic your support system is very important. Your mom and children never gave up on you that’s a bonus , I also believe the people that don’t make it is because there support system gave up on them . You are a sweetheart and a Master piece that created 🙏and we all have that gift , I love what your doing supporting people that they are worth it , and the people that have nobody beside them . Your story is truly wholehearted , your story does not define you , you were always a Mater Piece from God . Never forget that ❤️🙏💫Peace be with you 🙏💫

You my fellow addict friend, may be legitimate as they come. From a father to a four (nearly five!) year old daughter I haven't had the balls to recognize until coming up a year ago now. They're living a better life than if the mother didn't move on and the step-father didn't take responsibility. Now it's up to me to truly take responsibility (purchasing an exorbitant amount of quality heroin was a very, very stupid idea this year) to take care of myself; before even fathoming the idea of being able to take care of my family. The guilt is real and nearly consumed me. It's only worse if a parent lets it control even after the fact that they are, a parent. That is my biggest sin. Knowing I was a biological father to a daughter I love who was beginning to love me, and still get myself to the lowest point of my life. Covid precautions isn't an excuse. Only we are own our excuses. Please take care everyone. Reach out if you need to. I'm lucky enough not to do any real damage yet in my own child's eyes; and hope it doesn't progress to that point like so many of us eventually get to. God bless.

You can recover if you change your mindset, by meeting the brain changes forever is that it means that you know what it's like to be high and that's pretty much the only part that really changed. Everything else with neuroplasticity can change again, like the desire to use, or your rituals that you had can all go away. But just because you know what it's like to be high that's what the change of the brain really is
@crystalparker2542
@crystalparker2542 Год назад
It's a big deal to know what it's like. I actually explained this to my kids. They are teens. I was 30 yrs old and had never done any drug. Now, I'm a 45 yr old addict. Before i had ever used, if something happened, or i got stressed, sad, angry, etc., I dealt with it like any person does. But once I had used, even when clean, it's different and difficult because if i have any of those bad feelings, my brain remembers that there is a quick and easy escape in that "high" feeling. See, before i used, i didn't know that feeling. I didn't know there was an escape. But once you know that feeling, i think you always will have somewhat of a desire to escape that way. As i told my kids, never dip your toe in that water. If you do, you may drown.

Aaron, what you said at the beginning of the video didn't hold true in my eyes at all! ;) You did an amazing job telling your story with clarity and honesty, despite it being very personal and intimate. Having heard so many similiar stories, you were still able to touch me deeply with yours. I can't begin to imagine what it's been like for you and your kids and family to have gone through all of this, but at the same time it fills my heart with joy that you are no longer in the same situation and that God has given you a second chance. The BEST thing a man in addiction can do is pick up The word of God and start reading. God created us, so you'd think he knows us inside and out better than any shrink or doctor out there. The Bible (King James version instead of the NIV, ESV etc. due to historical and circumstantial evidence.) has become a laughing stock and something to scorn at, but I can tell you (and everyone reading this) that from my personal experience, I do not care one bit if I get mocked for the rest of eternity; If the award for doing so is living sober and being made into a new creature altogether. As it says in 2 Corinthians 5:17: "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." All a man has to do in order to get their hands on this promise, among SO many other amazing promises by God himself is to: a) Realize you are a sinner. (This comes easier for those of us who have history with drug addiction, considering that someone who walks grannies across the road daily might have a harder time admitting to being a wicked sinner than someone who has used toilet water to shoot up heroin at one point in their life) The fact of the matter is that in God's eyes both of those people are sinners and sin leads to death no matter how many grandmas' you help out. See, God's word says: "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one." - If I rob a bank and tell the judge that I've given money to the poor multiple times: Is the judge correct in letting me off the hook? I don't think so. Much less God, for is he not more Righteous than judges on earth? Is God not Holy and Perfect in every way? He will judge the sinners. b) Believe that Jesus Christ gave his life on the cross of Calvary, to die a horrible death; So that you could be saved and forgiven of your sins by God. God's word says: "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" - Romans 5:8 When a man Repents of their sins and turns to God in sorrow over their sin, the sin that has utterly destroyed their life; God will forgive that man of his sins and save him and make him a wholly new creature in Christ Jesus. But this can only happen if a man also accepts and beliefs what The Bible says about Jesus Christ dying for the sins of the world. Because The Bible says: "And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission." in Hebrews 9:22 - Jesus took on himself the punishment that us sinners against God deserve. Jesus shed his Precious, sinless and Holy blood and was raised on the third day and lives forevermore. Amen!

That's so wonderful for you that you do not have the disease of addiction in your life. People who are not wired like an addict are able to use medications without abusing them. Addicts are pre-wired to need to change the way that they feel inside. If you are truly only in physical pain, it's easy to use as prescribed. Some people medicate until they feel okay.

"Over-prescribed"? You went to the doctor for something to take away your pain. No one forced you to take the pills - he gave you what you needed - remember that? What else were you expecting him to do? Why is it your doctor's fault? You just couldn't handle pain and you didn't think this was your own responsibility??? This monologue is just a rubbish rant.
